Bears-49ers live blog: Third quarter

SAN FRANCISCO — This is the live blog for the third quarter of the 49ers Week 11 Monday night home game against the Chicago Bears. I’ll update this frequently with information and analysis from the press box.

7:12 The Bears have the ball to start the second half. Let’s see what adjustments, if any, Tice makes.

7:14 Big surprise – Tice makes zero adjustments. He calls runs on first and second down and a pass on third down. Aldon Smith sacks Campbell for the fourth time this game. The Bears punt. Niners ball at their 38 yard line. I’d be surprised if the Bears scored a single point in this game. It’s tough to take them seriously as a Super Bowl contender with this offensive line and this offensive coordinator.

7:20 On third and six from the Bears 10 yard line, here’s what happened: Kaepernick dropped back, but his first read over the middle wasn’t open. So he extended the play, allowed Crabtree to free himself in the back of the end zone, and hit the receiver for a beautiful touchdown. 27-0 Niners. Smith cannot ad-lib like that. He’s got to be the 49ers back up quarterback from here on out. He’s good, but he’s not a playmaker like Kaepernick.

7:30 The Bears drive into the 49ers territory, but after a holding penalty they face third and 19 from the 49ers 36. Campbell scrambles and gets planted into the ground from behind by Ahmad Brooks. Campbell fumbles and the ball bounces out of bounds. Campbell is shaken up and walking slowly off the field.

7:32 Harbaugh has to figure out how he wants to make the transition from Smith to Kaepernick. If Harbaugh doesn’t make the transition, he’s making a mistake.

7:33 The refs call a 10-yard penalty on the 49ers after the play. First and 10 for the Bears at the 49ers 27 yard line, and Campbell is back in the game.

7:36 On third and 7, Campbell takes a huge hit from Aldon Smith as he completes a 9-yard first down pass.

7:37 Where did this come from? Campbell escapes a Justin Smith sack, scrambles to the right and throws a perfect pass to Brandon Marshall in the end zone. Campbell threw it high and Culliver couldn’t reach it. Great pass and great catch. 27-7 Niners with 3:43 left in the third quarter. This game is still over.

7:45 On first down, Hunter gains 8 yards on a sweep to the left. On second down, Roman calls a brilliant play action shot play for Davis. Kaepernick throws it 70 yards and overthrows Davis by a step. On third and 2, Roman call Sprint Right Option. Kaepernick throws quickly to his primary receiver, Crabtree, who gains just one yard. Lee punts. Bears ball at their 16 yard line.

7:50 On third and three, Campbell overthrows Brandon Marshall on the left sideline and Dashon Goldson easily picks him off. 49ers ball at the Bears 37 with 11 seconds left in the quarter.

7:51 Kaepernick scrambles for five yards on first down and the third quarter ends.
