Dolphins: Austin Seferian-Jenkins, TE, Washington. “OK before you start with the bad interview stuff my ‘sources’ say that Miami is the one spreading those rumor in the hopes they can get him lower then #19. This article has 512 Comments

    1. OK the Houston Texans are now taking trade offers for the #1 spot.

      1. I’ll give you the Giants’ first and third round pick for the No.1.

        1. Gonna have to pass on that offer, #14 is too far down. And you’re only offering 1300 points for my 3000 point slot. Would take #14 and your 2015 #1 as well to start the conversation.

          1. Texans accept the Raiders offer of #5 and their 2015 first round pick.

            1. Raiders take Jadeven Clowney, DE South Carolina. What can I say? Team need and best player in the draft.

              1. The Rams are on the clock. Nick has until 9:16. Is Nick here? Going once…

              2. I like the move, in my first all 32 mock with trades I made the same move.

    1. Woah slow down there. it hasn’t been five minutes since i was put on the clock

    1. Easy pick Rocket, the Rams are having a craving for a Big M…..

  1. the comments aren’t keeping up with the draft. I tried my phone, tablet and both laptops

  2. If the site is getting a lot of hits with the draft the hamsters could be getting overworked.

    1. I didn’t say anything but I wondered if 9am would be a bit early for some. No biggie.

  3. The Jaguars pick Khalil Mack. Best player available. Crab15 is on the clock for the Browns.

    1. Nice pick Grant. It was between him and Robinson for the Rams and Robinson won out due to need.

  4. With the 4th pick, the Browns select Johnny Football!! They needed a QB with some attitude and someone who can find a way to win games.

    1. Josh Gordon just tweeted “I’m thrilled we drafted Johnny Football”

      1. Adam Schefter just tweeted “Johnny Football refuses to play for Cleveland, demands trade.”

        1. In other news, Cleveland has just fired Ray Farmer and are in talks to acquire Trent Baalke.

          1. Source: “Jim Harbaugh demands trade to Cleveland to coach Johnny Football.”

  5. how many rounds are we going? only one round makes trading back problematic. but if you only go one round maybe someone trading back should list who their targets in later rounds would be?

    1. We can try to do two rounds. We’ll take a lunch break after Round 1 and see who wants to keep going.

      1. oh I thought we were going all 7 lol….I was gonna say its gonna be a long morning

        2 is good

    2. I think the plan was to do two but if more people don’t show up that may not be possible.

      1. I can see that for Gordon but Manziel hasn’t been linked with that kind of thing. Hopefully he’s clean.

  6. CFC has been on the clock for 8 minutes. MWNiner is free to leap frog him, but I don’t think MWNiner is here…

    1. Grant do you want to take a time out and see if more show up in the next few minutes? We can keep making picks for them but maybe some are just tied up and will show soon.

        1. Houston takes Blake Bortles, QB, UCF Need a QB and best on the board.

    1. CFC has been requesting this all offseason and then he bails 30 minutes into it.

  7. I think I should pause this until more than five people show up. Anyone disagree?

      1. When do you think would be a good time to pick it back up? 10? 10:30? This afternoon?

    1. Good with me…I gotta a meeting at 10 but should be short….ill tell them I have more important matters to tend to.

  8. Rumor has it that Texans like Bortles. Bill O’Brien was quoted as saying, “I haven’t seen any tape of the kid but I stay up late at night on Instagram checking out his girlfriend. Any young man who can pull that type of woman is a winner in my book. Looking forward to taking Brent and his girlfriend out to dinner.”

Reporter, “but coach, his name is Blake.”

O’brien, “Don’t backtalk me boy. His name is whatever I say it is.”

    1. I like to say I work from home but I travel so often it’s more accurate to say I work from my car and a hotel room.

    1. CFC is on the clock right now for the Texans. I will pick for the Falcons. You will pick for the Bucs. Rocket will pick for the Vikings. Then we’ll see where we’re at.

  9. Houston Texans select Blake Bortles. I traded back hoping to land Manziel but the Brownies took him instad of Carr like they were supposed to. ,,i,, ( >< ) ,,i,, Crab15

    1. Cool. I’m on the clock. The Falcons take Jake Matthews. They have to protect Matt Ryan. Michael is on the clock for the Bucs.

  10. Grant how bout next year we do this on the saturday before the draft? I would love to take part but on a work day i just ca’nt pay close enough attention.

  11. Grant, if you are going to delay it may I suggest creating a new thread that eliminates that extra chatter? That would make it easier to navigate.

    1. Made my pick Bortles, Grant followed up with Falcons pick.

    1. Denver will trade this year’s first and next year’s first, 2nd and 4th.

          1. Watkins. I can’t believe he fell to #7. That’s why we do these things.

  12. Kansas City will trade this year’s #23 and, 4th round and next year’s 1st

  13. Schefter tweets: “Saw JJ throw his rings in anger against the wall after the Manzel pick, but I read his lips and he said at least Fales is still on the board”

        1. who would you have taken if you had fallen back to those spots?

          1. Its a WR receiver heavy draft so I was hoping to take Eric Ebron around the 12th pick and than hopefully Jordan Mathews at #38

      1. Had Falcons on my mind typed than thought about it. I guess I would have been fired today if I were a GM for Tampa

    1. ok Vikings select Aaron Donald. Perfect penetrating disruptive DT to take over from Kevin Williams.

    1. I said Falcons by accident. Been having computer issues have to keep refreshing and thought we were on a break than found we weren’t. The Bucs took Sammy Watkins

  14. Taylor Lewan Offensive Tackle Michigan

Mike Evans was VERY tempting. But it’s a deep draft for receivers and I think there’s a steep drop off in quality from Lewan to the next Tackle.

        1. The Jets will trade #18 in round 1, #16 in round 3 and #14 in round 5 for #10.

          1. Nope, Detroit selects WR Mike Evans from Texas A&M and the front office is dancing around the building.

            1. Rockets pick is fine. Was just figuring they might want to reload later to get more D, but they would be glad to have Evans

              1. Scrolling the board to find the right place to reply, but yeah, Lions select Mike Evans. While secondary needs are huge, having Mike Evans to pair with Megatron will eliminate all receiver questions.Stafford has his weapons now.

    1. good pick. i would have gone DB but tackle is probably the better choice.

    1. Mathews. Grant lists all the picks at the top of the thread, fyi.

      1. OK thanks for not even picking up the phone. I’ll remember that….

        1. Dude, I’m on my iPad, didn’t see your offer until I posted my pick. Would’ve passed on your decent offer anyway.

        1. Otay

Bears select Justin Gilbert. Who had Gilbert falling to #12 in their mock, not me? I didn’t want to risk either St. Louis taking him or trading the spot to someone like Philly who would have jumped at the chance to take Gilbert. Anyway the Bears get the #1 rated CB to fill one of their biggest needs.

  15. What happened to the big 49er move that all the “sources” say is going to happen? The two big WR’s are now both gone, would they make the move for a CB?

  16. Titans select Anthony Barr, UCLA

They think his pass rush will help the secondary and they have a higher grade on him than the DBs

      1. Deal. The Giants have traded the No.12 pick to the Bears. CFC is on the clock.

        1. Sweet deal for the giants to drop only two and get an extra 2015 3rd. Given the board I think this was a good move.

          1. It was a 100 point move, the Bears will likely have a mid to low third rounder next season so it made sense. I could have offered #117 this year at 60 points. He might have taken it but I was happy with the player I got for the exchange.

            1. i wouldn’t refer to that ridiculous trade chart too much. it’s been shown to be out dated incorrect.

              1. No it hasn’t. Baalke has said that some GM’s still use it exclusively and besides the trade didn’t even match the chart anyway.

              2. those are stupid GMs

Today the Philadelphia Inquirer profiles Cade Massey, a professor at Penn’s Wharton School of business. Already with a study under his belt arguing that the conventional wisdom of the Draft Value Chart is all wrong, Massey was contracted by an unnamed NFL team to study the history of the draft for market inequalities. He discovered something that won’t come as a surprise to football fans: the draft is kind of a crap shoot.

Link Study: NFL Teams Have No Idea What They’re Doing In The Draft

              3. That tile really imbues the article with a lot of credibility. Besides right or wrong they still use it so you’re still wrong on the original point.

              4. the title of the article is irrelevant compared to the analysis and conclusions of the study.

I will say this, that the trade chart is a good rough starting point but should never be used as gospel for the draft as market conditions change the value of players and team needs constantly vary.

            1. Can’t say Ive seen a #1 rated WR’s being traded for a TE before though.

              1. CFC,

No that doesn’t happen very often but the Rams are pleased with the result.

              2. Just having fun would not have done it in real life but the Bucs will be in good shape after 2 rounds

            2. I’ve wondered about this and supplemental picks.

You can’t trade the picks you’re given from losing free agents, but can you draft a player and then trade that player?

  17. The Giants pick Zack Martin. They have to do a better job protecting Eli Manning.

    1. I would expect the Niners might be looking at that #18 spot with Dennard still available. Maybe grabbing Ha Ha?

            1. the Chargers would have traded to #18 if he was still there but now he isn’t.

        1. True, and even if Dennard goes Fuller may still be around at #30 with the way things are going

    2. Hammer – If our guy is still available, Browns will trade 1st rounder #26 overall and 3rd rounder #71 overall for 18th pick.

        1. Let me know Jack, your player will still be there at #26 and that 3rd rounder will help your sorry defensive depth.

          1. Yeah, I missed an offer too in our format. Rookie mistake on my part for not checking back before posting.

  18. Ha ha Clinton-Dix

Thought process: Wanted Donald. Had to go with the next Sexy pick…

Fales was a bit too sexy for the 1st round

      1. Thanks Rocket…. The real story is that Jerry had Fales’ card ready to turn in, but Stephen wrestled him down crossed it out and picked Ha Ha

        1. Jerry wrote Fales card but as it got passed to the table someone wrote Ha Ha as a response and that was the name mistakenly called.

  19. I am jealous you guys are having to much fun! What is the over under QB Carr goes in the first round and the Niners take somebody other then a CB or WR? Let me know!

      1. What do you mean, Fales is still on the board. Couldn’t be better.

  20. With the departure of Mr. Ihedigbo, the Ravens decide to move Elam to his more natural position of Strong Safety, and with the 17th overall pick, select Calvin Pryor, Louisville, to take over the Free Safety position. The trick for Ozzie is finding a trading partner in the early second round, with the idea of targeting a guy like Morgan Moses, OT, Virginia….

      1. Ok you guys. Now a Jets fan would kill Jack before he could pick at 26 and Ohioans would be swooning and fainting all over the place at Crab15’s competency. Who is this guy? How long can he last? Am I dreaming? Is this Candid Camera?

  21. Jack I’ll send you pick #25 and a photo of my wife’s foot for #18?

  22. Browns will trade 1st rounder #26 overall and 3rd rounder #71 overall for 18th pick

  23. After trade with Jets, Browns select Odell Beckham Jr. with 18th pick. Josh Gordon, Beckham and Manziel will light up the scoreboard fellas! Browns still have early 2nd round pick #35 overall.

    1. Kansas City would like to trade pick #23 and their 4th rounder for the Dolphins pick #19.

    1. That’s alot to give up when the 49ers gave up pick 31 and a third to go up to 18 last year. I think you would get fired for that.

      1. yea but it kinda has to do with the fact I gotta leave soon….so I said hey WTH

    1. Depending on who gets pick by the Dolphins, K City will trade picks 23 and 124.

    1. Oh flub, i should have taken Dude’s offer. Chargers are not happy now.

      1. Leo,

According to the chart you over paid by about 70 points but who cares if you get the guy you want.

        1. Oh that’s not as bad as I was expecting…

but I really didn’t think fuller would still be there

          1. Leo,

Actually I was looking at the wrong row. You only overpaid by 15 points. You hit it on the head value wise.

    1. Kansas City selects Brandin Cooks. Andy Reid likes fast little receivers like Desean Jackson. Cooks is a stronger Desean Jackson without the Cript ties.

  24. Grant throw me any team you need a pick for if you need to keep things moving.

    1. You might have to pick for the Packers unless Steelematic is lurking around here.

    1. Kansas City selects Brandin Cooks. Andy Reid likes fast little receivers like Desean Jackson. Cooks is a stronger Desean Jackson without the Cript ties.

    2. Grant – CFC (Texans) made the #5 selection not me, can you correct that please?

      1. Yep, I was giving Crab the double bird for yoinking my player.

        1. Business is business brotha. :) ……Hey I have the Patriots at #29 and may want to drop down a bit. If anyone’s interested.

  25. Ok no offers so Packers select:

    CJ Mosley

Packers get their Patrick Willis/Navarro Bowman ILB to make Dom Capers 3-4 much more effective.

  26. Eagles select Dee Ford, Auburn,…an edge rusher who has shown the ability to drop back in coverage…will be moved to OLB and fill a big hole.

        1. They can’t let the off field stuff dissuade them from taking BPA, especially considering Roby didn’t test over the legal limit.

  27. Spacebon you could have stayed at #30 and scored Verrett, hes a better pure cover corner

    1. yea but he’ll have to carry around a step ladder on the field.

      1. Spacebon i’m glad you did’nt give up one of our 2nd rd pick i’m curious to see who you choose.

        1. Too many issues on and off the field. Not a big enough upgrade over Culliver, who also has too many issues on and off the field.

  28. Chris Berman just tweeted “Johnny Manziel is selling autographed photos in Radio City Music hallway.”

    1. I thought he was coming up for Verrett too. Roby or Verrett may have still been around at 30.

      1. Roby was the last player I had on my board as a trade-up. If I had stayed pat, I probably wouldn’t have taken Verrett anyway. Most likely would have went DL with several top players likely available.

    2. James reuniting with his former coach who knows how to use him makes perfect sense. Perhaps the value chart makes it look like the Eagles got fleeced, but after seeing everyone of their targets at WR, OLB, S, and CB, fall of the board, they will gladly pick up an extra draft pick to move down a few spots and in all likely hood still get the player they want.

  29. Space,

Roby was a good pick imo. I like Verrett too, but Roby has a chance to be the best CB in the draft if he takes to NFL Coaching.

  30. as acting GM of the Arizona Cardinals, I would like to trade Carson Palmer for a Reuben on rye sandwich.

  31. Arizona selects Kony Ealy DE/OLB from Missouri

The Cardinals play a 4-3/3-4 hybrid. Ealy has the athleticism to play as a Rush Outside Linebacker or bulk up and play an attacking Defensive End.

      1. Joe Lacob just announced that he intends to be the Jerry Jones of basketball owners.

  32. Miami selects Austin Seferian-Jenkins. OK before you start with the bad interview stuff my “sources” say that Miami is the one spreading those rumor in the hopes they can get him lower then #19. Amaro might be too slow for the NFL. I’ve had Miami taking this guy from my first mock and I’m sticking with it.

  33. If anybody wants to see a bad draft for the Niners just go and look at Kevin Lynch’s effort at the Chron. His first pick is fine; after that…not so much.

    1. I like Gains..but a bit early to be picking a QB…the rest of these guys I have no clue.

      1. The Houston Texans would like to offer the intelligent and dashingly handsome of a general manager from the Chargers #33 and #101 for their #25 selection.

        1. Well, how can I refuse such a generous offer from such a kind and equally intelligent and good looking fellow as yourself. I’ll take that deal.

The Chargesr trade #25 to the Houston Texans for #33 and #101

    1. The Houston Texans select Ryan Shazier. Steal of the draft so far, how he made it to this point is amazing. Texans get the 2nd best OLB at the bottom of the first round and sure up their weak pass rush.

      1. i don’t follow the Texans too much so I could be wrong, but Shazier doesn’t seem to be a fit IMO.

Crennel is a traditional 3-4 defensive coach. He has said that he will tailor the scheme to fit his players (so no two gapping for Watt), I still don’t think a 230 lb Shazier fits the Texan’s scheme. He’s more of a WILL linebacker with some blitzing skills. I think Ford who is a purer pass rusher and a bit bigger might have fit the Texans better.

Again, I don’t know much about the Texans. Would you give some background info on why you chose Shazier?

        1. I have to agree – Shazier would appear to be a better fit at OLB in a 4-3 front.

          1. I’d actually play Shazier inside in a 3-4. with his speed and tackling ability he’d be a machine inside.

            1. Hmmm, I’m not so sure that would be an easy transition for him. He’s got great straight line speed but struggles changing direction, which he’d need to be able to do as an ILB. His best fit for mine will be in a position where he can use his athletic ability to pursue like weakside OLB in a 4-3.

              1. We’ll see Scooter. Personally I’ve envisioned Shazier moving inside in the 3-4 and I think the transition would be pretty easy for him. He’s a tackling machine.

              2. Yeah, I could well be wrong about him. I’m not that big a fan as a 3-4 candidate, but he does a lot of good things. In on a lot of plays, high motor guy, exceptional athleticism for the position. He could be the next DeMeco Ryans.

        2. 100% agree that Shazier is light for a 3-4 olb. If he was picked for the 49ers I’d make the same argument. He was far more productive then Ford and showed that his body could stay healthy for an entire season. I’d still agree that I’d like to see a little more beef on the boy in a 3-4 but he can survive as he stands on the weakside I believe.

          1. And if not then like Rocket said they can move him inside and still get about the same value from the pick given his athletic ability.

          2. the problem I think, is that if he’s on the weakside with Watt, the Texans aren’t going to have Watt tie up blockers. They’re going to turn Watt loose which leaves more blockers for everyone else…like the weakside linebacker.

            1. Do they turn Justin Smith loose and let the blockers get to Aldon?

              1. sometimes they do and sometimes they don’t. Aldon’s a big boy and can take on blockers and even jack them back with punch.

              2. I could keep defending it but I’ve already admitted we agree that he’s light for the position. To me he was the best OLB on the board and although system does matter I pulled the trigger anyway. He might be able to add another 5-8 pounds and keep his quickness which would probably be enough.

        3. Who the he!! is AFFP? All he does is sit around criticizing everyone’s picks. My mailman knows more about football than this guy.

          1. Kiper was obviously wrong about Marshal Faulk. But was right about Trev Alberts.

I think Harbaugh thinks Tobin was right about the Colt’s incumbent QB over Trent Dilfer (who thought about sitting out for a year if he dropped too far because he refused to play for the Browns??? i think….he said he regretted making that decision and deciding not to sit out and report to Tampa.

            1. Kiper thought they couldn’t win with Harbaugh. That’s why he ripped Tobin. What he didn’t know is that Dilfer had told the Colts he would not sign and go back into the draft the following year if they picked him.

Also, Tobin liked Harbaugh a lot. He had drafted him for Chicago out of college.

The next season Harbaugh and the Colts were a Hail Mary away from the Super Bowl.

      1. Baalke should shoot for Dennard/Gilbert/Fuller. Trade up to pick No.18 and take BCBA.

        1. Grant,

I’d say there’s a very good possibility of something like that transpiring.

        2. I agree – if they are going to CB with the first round pick they want to be getting one of Dennard, Fuller or Gilbert.

      2. Nope. I live in Columbus and I’ve seen every game of his collegiate career. For several reasons, I think he is Ahmad Carroll 2.0 and I don’t want any part of that.

          1. why did you take Benjamin for the Saints?

I would have thought Corner (Champ Baily can’t be more than a stop gap measure), OL or Rush Linebacker (Parys Harelson is starting for them!).

I probably would have gone with Dee Ford for the Saints.

              1. no worries…I’m just curious what you liked about Benjamin so much for the Saints.

I guess you can’t say right now if you have plan for the NO pass rush in round 2.

  34. Carolina simmering for an unreasonably favorable trade but ready to pick.

              1. I’m guessing you think I should have traded back into the 1st. But guess I’ll see tomorrow. Thanks.

              2. Lee is a perfect fit for the Niners and a great value at 26, let alone 28.

  35. Carolina takes Marquise Lee, WR, USC

They thought of going with Morgan Moses for serious need, but Lee is a better value for another need.

    1. Good pick BT. Best option left on the board to fill the departure of Smith for them.

      1. Thx, but the Charlotte FO is now scrambling to shore up the OL. I think if somehow Martin had dropped they would’ve tried to address WR in the second. But Moses vs Lee? Easy.

    2. didn’t Carolina decimate their receiving corp? I thought I read that none of their top 3 receivers from last season are back this year? crazy….Lee is a definite value at a position need IMO.

  36. I have to run errands. I’ve emailed my Chargers pick at #33 to Grant. Do my best to get back by #50 for my Miami pick.

  37. Not a sexy pick but the Patriots select Timmy Jernigan DT Florida State with the 29th pick. Vince Wilfork is coming off a torn Achilles and Patriots run defense was ranked 30th in NFL last year, enough said.

    1. I like Jernigan. With all the WR/CB/QB mania there is bound to be some stud front 7 talent falling Thursday.

If the 49ers had a trade up deal in place hoping to grab Gilbert of Beckham, but Barr or Donald was somehow thereintsead, I’d think Baalke wouldn’t hesitate to grab either one.

    2. Louis Nix seems more like a Vince Wilfork replacement in terms of size and skill set. Jerrigan is more of a penetrator.

something about Nix sets off my bust spider-sense so I can understand why someone would stay away from him. But I would be hard pressed to explain why I didn’t select Nix.

      Why did you select Jerrigan?

  38. Eagles select Jimmie Ward, SS, Northern Illinois, they could go with Louis Nix as the have virtually no depth behind Bennie Logan, but they fill a bigger need by selecting Ward.

  39. Broncos select: Dee Ford OLB Auburn

Broncos are going to right a wrong caused by a fax machine costing them Elvis Dumervil.

  40. Breno Giacomini has now given his loyalties to Ryan in New York. Forget about it. Pete brings in the kid from the Calabro-Sicilian family, Joe Bitonio, G, Nevada…..

    1. From 2:30 to 4:30 I have to coach my kids baseball team can it wait longer or how can I email my picks to you. Tampa has 2 picks in the 2nd round

        1. Gran’t, I compiled a list of 49er draft tendencies that’s a bit lengthy for this blog. Mind if I email them to you when I get home this afternoon? You might find them useful for predictions/mocks.

  41. Kudos to all who took part in the 1st round you made it very entertaining. Spacebon ignore Grant, I may have disagreed with your first rd pick but in a draft this deep keeping both 2nd round picks could deliver a gold mine. Especially if you use our top 3rd rd pick to move up in the 2nd round. I think you can find 2 players in the 2nd rd as good as Lee

      1. Grant i agree with you on the trade up to get Roby. Where i disagreed with you was your desire to trade up a 2nd time to get Lee.

          1. Grant no draft picks for a returner. I thought Perrish Cox looked really good as a returner last preseason.

            1. He can’t be the only returner on the roster. He’s not even a lock to make the final roster.

    1. Coach, thanks, that’s the way I see it. 49ers still have plenty of ammunition to move around if they want. There are other WR’s I like as 2nd rounders as well a couple I like in later rounds. No big.

  42. Hey Grant, et al.

Came right in the door to something I need to work. Can someone take the Lions 2nd round pick for me?

  43. where we at?

    what’s going on?

has someone drafted A.J. Jenkins yet?

  44. I know kids in high school that could put together a more functional website than the press democrat. This is terrible. And the mobile app is even worse. Get on them Grant. I know they are generating ad dollars…
