MJD, Del Rio return to Bay Area roots

The Jaguars came through with two very good conference calls today. Both gentlemen, running back Maurice Jones-Drew and coach Jack Del Rio, went to high school in the East Bay and gave us a nice chunk of their time.   The Jags are 6-4 with three consecutive victories entering their game Sunday at Candlestick Park […]

Young, Smith back in their original roles

Vince Young vs. Alex Smith.   That’s the matchup Sunday at the ‘Stick when the Titans visit to play the 49ers. Young and Smith are former high draft picks who lost their starting jobs for various reasons.   Now, both are trying to remake their careers with their original teams. Both made their first starts […]

Fisher: Niners’ formula is working

This is Jeff Fisher’s 16th season as a head coach in the NFL. During that time the former 49ers assistant has faced San Francisco just three times.   “As I told our team this morning, this is a team that we know nothing about,” Fisher said this morning a handful of Bay Area newspaper reporters […]

Breakfast with Kubiak

Breakfast with Spagnuolo

The 49ers face the winless St. Louis Rams on Sunday at Candlestick, and Rams coach Steve Spagnuolo joined the 49ers press corps on a morning conference call.

T.O. under the weather, so . . .

Just got a call from the Cowboys. Terrell Owens is sick today, we’re told, so he might not be able to do the conference call. The call is scheduled to begin in just a few minutes. If Owens can’t go, QB Tony Romo will take our call instead.

Staley wanted another crack at Strahan

Left tackle Joe Staley says he wanted the rematch with Giants defensive end Michael Strahan, who schooled him when the teams met last season at the Meadowlands. That game remains as the most humbling – and probably biggest learning experience – of Staley’s young career.
