Beathard*, #104 overall selection, 52.8% completion rate, 245 yards, 1 TD, 1 Int, 72 rating.

*Not a full game, and if not for the late Int, his rating would have been 89.

    Goff…59mph
    Cousins…59mph
    Beathard…52mph Left, 55mph right

  2. If only everyone would sign Kap and not have to throw the rookie to the wolves

    Go Niners…

    1. No, It says it ended 2 hrs ago and nothing. I always get it, don’t know why it won’t come up…I really enjoy your Periscope broadcast and think it’s great sports reporting where you can view the report, read other questions and ask questions and get instant replies. It’s great and I agree with your views on the 49ers. Plus I get a good laugh at times and a visual in-depth game review. Thanks

        1. I tried it on the link you gave me which is the usually link I use to watch your after game review and it still doesn’t come up, it’s just thinking and frozen. I clicked on the other reviews from the past on the left and those all come up in 2 seconds. Sorry bro, maybe the problem is on my end or it’ll come later. But keep up the broadcasts, really cool!!

  3. Shannahan just owned Grant in the press conference regarding Grant’s so called “rub route” theory lol! It was an obvious DPI and GArcon was running a slant and never looking to pick the backer.

  4. Erik Armstead (ironic last name) broke his hand in the last game against Washington. Out for “awhile” according to Shanahan.

    1. Armstead/Tank, both known for their injury concerns, curiously enough are no longer available. Good thing we drafted a safety or corner with that first pick…wait…we drafted the top defensive lineman and top linebacker. Whew, for a second there I thought we screwed up….

      1. Armstead is probably gone after this season. They’ll try and trade him, if that doesn’t work, he’ll likely be released. He’s the odd man out. No real position on this team.

Tank is an ok rotational player so they may hold onto him if he is willing to take a rotational player offer. Otherwise he will be gone too.

Lynch won’t be re-signed at the end of the year.

The DL will be built around Buckner and Thomas moving forward. For all the wailing about taking another DL #3, Lynch and Shanahan clearly were not that enamoured with the guys they already had for the system they want to implement. And there is still work to do. Dumervil is a short term fix and a situational pass rusher only. The best DE opposite Tank in base is still a question mark moving forward. The NT is a journeyman. The D will look very different in a couple of years.

        1. Blabberty, blaberty, blaberty, ….Scooter…I used to read your posts religiously, but it seems that you’ve gone over to the dark side….Armstead will NOT be gone after this season unless it’s to cover up John Lynch’s faux pas in showing bias to fellow Stanford Alum Solomon Thomas who is the one without a position…HE”S TOO SMALL TO PLAY THE BIG END position….If you believe in destroying good chemistry, just break up the relationship between Buckner and Armstead…somewhat the same result of breaking up the pairing of Kittles and CJ…it’s a confidence thing. If the “powers’ hadn’t had Armstead lose 16 lbs. to attempt to get 5 gallons into a 2 gallon bucket, (very much the same as ‘Tank’) we’d be so much better off with him playing at 293 lbs. Also, Lynch will not be leaving after the season unless you think that it’s a good idea to further damage the ‘D’ by getting rid of your best pass rusher. You’re beginning to sound like razoreater….

You’re advocating to get rid of two young powerful highly drafted defensive players who should be the backbone of the team for the next ten years. Perhaps you should read from other teams blogs and see what they think of OUR players….A new coach…a new GM… a completely new system, a new DC…Geez…look around, we have the makings of a great team…but not if we keep giving away our best potential so someone else picks them up, and we get to play against them on Sundays…..Be patient, most of us knew that we weren’t going to win it all THIS year….Incidentally, I disagree with your post….

  5. I don’t have time to watch the periscope but some thoughts on the subject matter:

Navarro Bowman is not what he once was, but he’s still a solid 2 down LB. If he was totally opposed to how they were using him and couldn’t accept that his skills have diminished to that type of role, then I understand why he was released. Keeping a proud vet who is disgruntled on the roster isn’t going to help anybody and now he can go to another team that is in dire need of LB’s and will likely play the full time role he craves. He can’t cover anymore but the Raiders literally have no one who can stop the run or cover so he’ll help them.

I thought Beathard did pretty well under the circumstances. He hasn’t played since the preseason and gets thrown into a game against a pretty good team on the road. Comparing what he did in this game to what Hoyer did in previous game doesn’t make any sense to me. You compare it based on how each QB did against the same opposition and in that regard Beathard was better than Hoyer. The team is looking at how it’s going to build going forward and we already know or should, that Hoyer is not a part of it. It’s worth seeing if Beathard is an option to start or at the very least be the long term backup. Tough spot and yet he brought them back and had them in a position to win if not for…

The second part of the subject matter: the pass interference call against Garcon. To quote Mike Pereira: “it was a horrible call.” Normally when you see a receiver get called on a pick route, it’s because he made no effort to run a route and blocked a defender to allow another receiver to get open. That was not the case here. Garcon ran a route and wound up being the intended receiver. That he bumped into a defender is irrelevant due to the fact he was looking at the QB and expecting the throw which did in fact come his way. I have never in my life seen it called the way it was on Garcon. It was an awful call and one that possibly changed the outcome of the game.

I’m optimistic about what I’ve been seeing even with all the losses. This is a team with average to below average talent all over the roster, no established QB, and new Coaches and schemes and yet they have been in every game and in position to win with a couple of things going their way. It’s never acceptable to lose and there is no reward for it in sports, but you know there are going to be a lot of them in a rebuild so what you hope for is progress and compete level and this team has shown that.

    1. For me, this season is going perfectly, and has been everything I had hoped for. My condolences to those who were hoping for 9 or 12 wins….

      1. I was hoping for more wins, and bet the over 4.5, but I agree that this season is playing out pretty well- I would like to keep looking to others practice squads to get young guys for next year- ie, not bringing in older vets like Hall.
        – might be time to see what some of the backups can do too by rotating them in for some series.

        1. I thought I saw Lee out on the field. I’m looking forward to seeing how much stronger he can get next year, and maybe push for a bigger role….

      2. I can’t find anything perfect about 0-6 but I think I no where your thought process is with that. No doubt we could of easily been 5-1 when playing the ‘if’ game but there are no if’s just losses. 12-4 what was I thinking, or not. Condolences not needed but wins are :)

      3. I didn’t have a prediction for this season. Honestly had no idea how it would go, just that I expected the team would play better in the second half of the season than in the first half of the season. If they do indeed manage that this team should be getting a few wins to close out the year. Though with Beathard now in at QB I think there will be a lot more variance in how the team performs as I expect there to be some rookie mistakes that put extra pressure on the D.

    2. There is no such thing as a “2 down linebacker” anymore. Yes, there are sub packages and personnel varies depending on whether you’re in base, nickel, etc. However, the league is too pass happy, and the TE position too important, to have LBs that are a liability in coverage on 1st and 2nd down. Seeing a run on 1st and 2nd down consecutively isn’t nearly as prevalent as it once was.

We subbed out the guys who was playing the most consistent ball on offense for a “spark.” We’ll see if we come to regret it. I understand wanting to get reps in for young players once we’ve capitulated on the season, but Hoyer really wasn’t the problem on offense. Goodwin cost us a win, Kittle has dropped too many passes, the Oline has been inconsistent with the exception of their penalties, Aldrick stinks, and the running game is mediocre.

      It was an awful call.

We’re not as bad as the record suggests, just like Oakland wasn’t as good as their record last year suggested.

      1. I have to say, rewatching the game, Hoyer really wasn’t the main problem in the first quarter once again. Beathard was honestly no better than Hoyer (in fact probably worse in some areas), except in one area – Beathard was able to use his feet to manouvre in the pocket a little better. It was the difference that created the TD to Robinson. Hoyer probably doesn’t make that play. But then Hoyer may have made some others.

The OL, penalties and drops are a big issue for this offense.

        1. Scooter: Aren’t you a big proponent of having veterans on a team to set the tone, hold rookies accountable, teach them by example how to be professionals, etc. As the team continues to jettison veterans aren’t you concerned how this will impact the team overall. I’n not just talking about this year but the future. If they get rid of Hyde, Lynch (not a good role model), Tank, Arik, Reid, etc. that just reduces the veterans even more. Maybe they don’t consider the current veteran leadership that good. It makes me think that they might be very active in free agency in 2018 or maybe they think second-year players count as veterans.

          1. Yes, I am concerned. I very much hope they bring in some vets with winning experience next year.

The guys they would be letting go at the end of the year are guys whose experience has basically been losing at the 49ers. Not many vets left from the Harbaugh years anymore.

Bowman is not a nickel LB that was the point. He can play in every other situation and while not as good in coverage anymore, is effective stopping the run and blitzing. He was not cut because he couldn’t play; he was cut because he didn’t like his role.

I disagree on Hoyer. He was a problem and the problem was he wasn’t producing consistently. Missed far too many throws and wasn’t able to manipulate the pocket like Beathard can. The team is 0-6 and there is little reason to keep playing a journeyman who is not part of the future.

  6. Please cut that loser ERIK ARMSTEAD what a pos he has turned into. I hate these nickel and dime injured players like ERIK. Time to cut bait with that guy.

  7. Every year we have to get through the first four games to get an idea on teams, Andy then a few early flashes fizzle.
Last year the Titans were stout in the trenches. This year they’re not.

  8. Won’t let me on Grant . Would like to see it . Periscope.

Bow , his age is showing for sure ,no side to side motion , hated to see him leave , mostly good memories from him , except this week, was a game changer when we drafted him . The move leaves us really thin . ( Never saw bow ,act that way. ) Thought he was a leader .

CJB , looked good . Was very prepared coming in with no notice. Was good at making his reads , and wasn’t swallowed up by the defense . ( Not bad for a rookie QB in the 3rd round )

The penalties , well it’s every game for the last 5 games , if your a fan of this site . You know penalties have been a topic , for awhile now . Always game changing calls , that most fans disagree with . I’ve been watching the NFL for along time , never saw penalty calls this bad . Well maybe after the strike . But some of these calls, opi . Really?

Hope you get it fixed real soon Grant , kinda enjoy it .

  9. Bowman just signed with the Raiders. Wish him luck. Hope he has 12 tackles and 2 sacks per game, and I hope he makes the Pro Bowl.
    .
However, I hope the Raiders lose every game.
