Daunte Culpepper’s resume

As you know, the 49ers will work out Daunte Culpepper this week.

Our very own elGuapo posted some links of his highlights from 2010 when Culpepper played in the UFL for Sacramento Mountain Lions. Thank you, elGuapo.

The videos make Culpepper look like the quarterback he used to be back in 2004, when he threw for 4,717 yards, 39 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. In the video Culpepper runs around nimbly and throws perfectly-placed bombs all over the field.

In 2005, Culpepper tore the MCL, PCL, and ACL in one of his knees, and he was never the same quarterback after that. From 2005 to 2009 he started a combined 27 games, threw 20 TDs and 32 INTs.

For the Sacramento Mountain Lions last year, despite the good highlights, Culpepper had mixed results, throwing 10 TDs and 12 INTs in 8 games.

In all fairness, he nearly threw for 2,000 yards over those 8 games, so maybe he’s got something left.

If Harbaugh and Baalke decide he does, Culpepper will be another 49er quarterback with smallish hands who’s most comfortable passing from the shotgun (both Smith and Kaepernick’s hands are on the small side for a quarterback).

Does this tell us anything about what Harbaugh and Baalke value in a quarterback?
