Day 1: Happenings around the league

The market for unrestricted free agents is shrinking by the minute.

 

The Panthers have signed offensive tackle Jordan Gross to a long-term deal, and the club will franchise defensive end Julius Peppers. Obviously, both of those men play positions of need for the 49ers.

 

In addition, the Raiders are reportedly finalizing a deal with cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha; the Texans will slap the franchise tag on cornerback Dunta Robinson and the Seahawks will tag linebacker Leroy Hill.
