Niners: All should be available for Sunday

Safety Michael Lewis (back) was added to the 49ers' injury report today, but coach Mike Nolan said he expects the entire team to be available for Sunday's game against the Cardinals.

Lewis spent the entire practice anxiously pacing back and forth along the sideline, tossing a ball to himself. He is listed as probable on the injury report, indicating a strong likelihood that he will be available to play.

The other players on the 49ers' injury report are also listed as probable: NT Aubrayo Franklin (knee), LB Parys Haralson (shoulder) and TE Delanie Walker (calf). Franklin and Haralson went through full practice. Walker could have practiced, but he was held out.

Cardinals injury report

Doubtful: C Al Johnson (knee), DT Gabe Watson (knee) and DT Alan Branch (ankle).

Questionable: TE Jerame Tuman (hamstring).

Probable: TE Ben Patrick (ankle) and T Mike Gandy (knee).

Comment: Do you agree that McCloughan will have tremendous pressure finding an starting QB next season. Yes, this season is McCloughan's first season as GM, but he had been with the 49ers for 4 seasons with huge influence on roster buildup. Can McCloughan afford to start his 5th season and say he doesn't have a starting QB? It surely does not seem like Alex Smith will be backed next season. There is no guarantee that O'Sullivan is the long term answer at QB. If he is, is the O'Sullivan-with-Martz the same as O'Sullivan-less-Martz? Can McCloughan afford to draft a new QB and patiently waits until the QB develops?

Comment: Cal, with all due respect, I thought this was the 49ers football team, not the Eddie Guerrero football team? Before Eddie Guerrero died (pro wrestler of WWE), his motto was to lie, steal, and cheat. Well for the 49ers, we lied to Alex Smith, we cheated to have JT O Sullivan as our QB, and now we're about to steal the sacred Lombardi with JT? I rather have us drop the season and dump JT. I rather have York rip this whole team apart. I don't care what it does or moved us to LA because we are not deserving right now to have the SF 49ers anymore. I don't want JT as our QB for if you can't do a job without cheating, that's not right in life. It's not right as a football fan to be forced to root for JT and the 49ers? Ls are a lot easier to axe Nolan, get rid of JT, and either start Alex Smith in 09, or get a morgage on the 49ers to pay for our next QB and prepare to travel to Los Angeles for LA 49ers. I'll never call Alex Smith a bust. I'll have the on my gravestone: Alex Smith was never a bust on the 49ers.

Comment: What is wrong with you, Darren? Are you 12? Of course O'Sullivan isn't going to be any good in a videogame where the players attributes were set before training camp. I'd venture to say that Kurt Warner wasn't very good in Madden in his breakout year either. As for the defense, maybe Madden overrated the Cardinals' offense and underrated the 49ers defense...or you're just not very good at Madden. Either way, do us a favor-- don't use Madden as a scouting tool and spare us from meaningless posts.

Comment: I just got done playing Arizona with JT O Sullivan and while he did have some impressive numbers and MOrgan and Hill are good WRs, Sullivan had 7 INTs. The 49ers defense was GOD AWFUL, pass rushes were burned to a crisp and only A Brooks had 2 sacks. I know a Madden game shouldn't mean a thing, but if you can't have a good defense, I can't see how the 49ers will beat Arizona. It might be a shootout though, but I think warner will have the edge over the 49ers. Gore is the man still, 19 rushes, 105 yards, and caught 9 passes for 158 yards. Still, 7 INTs is not a good sign for JT O Sullivan.

Comment: Is there a website I can watch the game or listen to the play by play? I cancelled my NFL ticket.

Comment: Oh ancient one, I got a feeling that Balmer, Rachal, Wallace, Smith & Morgan will turn out to be above average NFL players. That would make it an excellent draft. They've certainly shown flashes during the summer. Remember even Rice and Montana looked rather ordinary in their first years. Young looked downright 'orrible.

Comment: Matt, Any chance that Walker gets some action on kick returns this Sunday or in the near future. For a "TE" he can move and he seems to have some vision. Or are the Niners going to go with Rossum as the main returner for both kickoffs and punts? Thanks, Matt

Comment: i don't wish any ill-will towards any player home or opposing. in reference to 'fred's' post, a.smith had his opportunity in camp to excel but he did not take advantage of it. i have been, and remain an a.smith fan, don't ask me why i just do. my football instincts tell me not to close the book on him just yet. right now i only have this wish; six sacks, two fumble recoveries, and two picks. that's a formula for win number one. GO NINERS!

Comment: Was just going over past Niner drafts at http://www.pro-football-reference.com/draft/sfo.htm Some sorry drafts a few years ago, before the year of the golden Gore selection. Worry that this year's draft may rank with 2003 or 2004 in a couple years. On a bright note, the D looks good and there's hope that the 2007 O is a distant nightmare.

Comment: 2 DTs out - looks like AZ is going to be a little light in the middle. Matt - any word on thier basic plan of attack? Perhaps a heavy dosage of Gore up the gut?

Comment: Matt, wasn't Franklin's knee injured at the start of the season last year? We seriously need a stud NT in this coming draft.

Comment: JT will have a ...hmmm...strained quad next week...if he plays poorly. They will find a reason to pull him and let Alex play. Guarantee it. They won't want to have to explain why they gave up on the JT experiment and an injury will do the trick.

Comment: Seem like Mike Martz has huge leverage on McCloughan. If the offense and O'Sullivan is doing well this season, can McCloughan afford not to offer Martz headcoach position after the season and risk of loosing Martz? After all, if Martz doesn't get the headcoach job, he has nothing to lose by leaving the team. It would be impossible to believe that he won't get a shot for OC from another team. For McCloughan, however, I don't think he has many choices. We don't know if O'Sullivan would want to follow Martz or the Niners, but either way, no one knows what O'Sullivan-less-Martz is. I seriously doubt that McCloughan can afford to re-re-rebuild an offense with a new offensive system and a new QB. Yes, this is McCloughan's first year as GM, but he has been with the Niners for 4 seasons and always has major input on building the roster, he should only get a limited amount of time before York says bye bye to him. What do you think about my analysis, Matt?

Comment: Great info. Always nice to start out the season healthy. Just hope we can keep it that way. Go Niners!
