Comment: Berger - I second the Singletary nomination. It seems as though Nolan (at least is claiming) is taking a hand's off approach and letting his coordinators 'run the show'... if this is the case, they need someone at the head position who can MOTIVATE. Lord knows Singletary can do that part...

Comment: I see that one person has gotten to register at the new site. But I'm still getting the same error message. I guess that's one way to keep the comments under control.

Comment: what would it take (hypothetically) for niners to get Williams or TJ. Is a first rounder enough? Or would it be better that we resign JTO and use that pick on a QB (stafford/bradford) and stash him away for 2-3 years like Chargers/Packers did.
Posted By: Berger (08/10/2008 6:31:44 AM)
Comment: I agree woth Marc, except I'll take it one step further. Fire Nolan! I believe Singletary is the right guy for the job but I don't know that for sure. If we give him thge job for the rest of the season we should get a good idea. One thing we do know for sure, Nolan is not the guy.

Comment: Matt, your new site is busted before it has got started. It will not let me register. Also, can you guarentee I won't be slammed with spam? Why do you need our e-mail addresses??? Thanks

Comment: Sorry for the additional posts, but why would we be linked to talks of trades for WRs? How about OL/DL? Why not grab 3 WRs and Matt Millen while we're at it? Is there any chance we win another game this season? Atlanta and Miami are both winning games with new coaches, and we're looking for WR help? Tell me this is some sort of media prank?

Comment: While I'm at it, we faced Seattle and N.O. with weakened recieving corps and didn't press. We faced a Brady-less Pats team and didn't press. We'll be facing an Eagles team with a weakened RB and a speedy rookie WR who will likely see more touches. Let's see what Nolan devises for this matchup. Make a bet it looks like every other matchup? VANILLA is the game plan, losses are the result. Nolan wears a suit and obviously doesn't concern himself with wrinkles. Belichick dresses like he's mowing the lawn and stacks a playlist for every situation. He's outcoached every week. 1st and 10, big nickel, 2nd and 4, big nickel, 3rd and 1, big sub. Nolan is like the kid sitting on the front seat of Daddy's car going Vroom Vroom in the driveway, sooner or later you learn to drive, we don't have that much time to spare. Here comes the NFC East, put the car in neutral and hang on Mike, maybe Martz can outscore them?

Comment: Matt the new site is not very user friendly regarding the set up. Brand new and user names are already used? We need an admin contact or a better explanation of the required information. Nice idea, not working very well yet however. I can't get through the account creation phase either. 8>(

Comment: hey matt, i'm in no-way chucking this campaign 5 games into the season, but if the niners finish as a buttom 10 team what do you think they need to focus on in the 2009 draft. i'm not sold on 'sully'(i'm beginning to question his decision making) and unless a-smith takes a huge pay-cut its unlikely that he'll be back. matt, just curious, in your estimation who are the top college q.b.'s available in the 2009 draft? also, d.b. speed should be high priorety as well.

Comment: ska - pay attention to the quotes....it was from Glenn Dickey.....i am really not shocked...nolan loves to micro-manage every thing....the idea of over-control is something i have seen nolan do since he has been a niner coach....it was ok to babysit this players in yr 1-3 but cmon its yr 4 you hav to let them build the team's identity.....Nolan's mistake is ..he his trying to force the team's identity...

Comment: NINERS INTERESTED IN HOUSHMANDZADEH AND ROY WILLIAMS?.........HMM, i think we should wait and do whatever it takes to draft Terrence Cody/NT/Alabama.....

Comment: MM - give us the scoop on this rumor: NINERS INTERESTED IN HOUSHMANDZADEH?
Posted by Mike Florio on October 7, 2008, 4:41 p.m.
Last year, the San Francisco 49ers made a trade-deadline run at Bears linebacker Lance Briggs. A deal didn't happen, and the Niners ended up on the wrong side of a tampering case.
This time around, the Niners could be interested in acquiring another guy who is due to become a free agent in March.
Per the Dayton Daily News, the name of Bengals receiver T.J. Houshmandzadeh has "come up quite frequently" in San Fran of late. Per the report, the Niners are expected to attempt to upgrade their passing game via the trade market, and Houshmandzadeh could be the target.
The Niners also reportedly could be interested in Lions receiver Roy Williams, who like Houshmandzadeh is due to become a free agent after the season.
It's unknown whether the Bengals are willing to trade Houshmandzadeh. The team has resisted opportunities to trade receiver Chad Johnson
Response: What I'm hearing is that the 49ers don't have any interest in trading for Houshmandzadeh. If I hear something different, I'll let you know. --Matt M.

Comment: Matt, great article about the 9er drafts. Willis and Staley are great players but they dont seem to be the kind of guys who are great leaders. I along with most 9er fans have heard stories about Ronnie Lott and his great leadership. Those kind of leaders don't accept anything but the best from themselves and their teammates. They aren't afraid to get in another guys face or call them out in meetings. Those kind of players are needed to establish a winning culture. I'm sure our guys try hard but who are the real leaders of this team? Also, I believe a team needs a QB to be that kind of leader to sustain success. When Alex Smith was not voted as the position captain for QB's (Trent Dilfer was captain), I knew there was a leadership void that would hurt the team. (I also had that same weird error message when I tried to sign up.)

Comment: I luv you Coach But its time to go...................."Nolan pays too much attention to the details, instead of leaving the play/formation-calling to his coordinators. He even does that with offense, about which he knows nothing. Norv Turner has told associates that he couldn't wait to get away from the 49ers because he was so tired of Nolan phoning to the box with complaints about play calls. His interference last year with an inexperienced offensive coordinator played a big part in the terrible 49ers game plans."

Comment: Matt, a couple notes about the new blog address.
1) could add the useful links you used to have at the old address, and
2) I tried to register to comment on the new blog to make the above comment, and it gave me a strange error message: "You do not have a valid path to sendmail on your machine. Perhaps you should try using SMTP?" Any help?
Response: I'm checking with the folks who run this thing. Hopefully, it'll be cleared up shortly. Thank you. --Matt M.
