Running back Frank Gore sustained a broken right hand during the morning practice. He is expected to miss at least a week -- and possibly several exhibition games -- with the injury. Coach Mike Nolan said Gore will be re-evaluated next Monday.
The bone is expected to take four weeks to heal, so it is uncertain if Gore will play during the exhibition season. This means that Michael Robinson, Maurice Hicks and Thomas Clayton will get extended work during training camp. Nolan said the club could also look to add another running back to the roster.

Comment: This is an opportunity for the 49ers to show some heart

Comment: Ya I have to agree with most everybody that "better now than later" The good thing is Gore will continue to practice next week to keep himself sharp. Now I'm really looking forward to seeing Clayton get more playing time!

Comment: Hopefully this is only a minor setback for Gore. However, this is a *very big* break for Thomas Clayton. He was drafted as an everydown back, with power and moves. Now we'll see.

Comment: Well better now than later... At least he wont get injured during any preseason games. Its just a small bone in his hand should heal quickly but keep him out as precaution.

Comment: Hopefully wont be the start of Gore's fumble-ites..

Comment: Ask TO how a broken hand affected him. This is possibly a biiig deal, hopefully it won't affect his ability to hold onto the ball. I know his fumbling problems got better later in the year, but this could set him back a little. Small cause for concern at this point.

Comment: it's just a broken hand, probably won't affect him at all.

Comment: HOW did he break his hand?

Comment: How much do you see this injury affecting him? Will the lack of reps hurt or can this be a blessing in disguise somehow?

Comment: NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!
Well, lets hope he's fully healed by the regular season, we're gonna need him healthy. Get well soon Frank.

Comment: A bad day just got worse. We lose the GENIOUS, and now Gore. Clayton Robinson, and most likely a back from outside the organization get ready. Expectations just took a step back, but as always better now than during the season playoffs etc. Again RIP COACH WALSH.

Comment: We should find out very quickly what improvements Robinson's made and what Clayton can bring to the table. That should give us more than enough time to determine if we need another experienced back like a lot of fans claim we need.

Comment: Hopefully this is a blessing in disguise because it will keep him contact free until the season starts.
