Free agency live blog

This is the official live blog for free agency. Please leave all your free agency comments here. I’ll keep you updated on the day’s events and I’ll answer any questions you may have.

I’m blogging from the Cohn Zohn. I’m sitting at the dining room table with my dad eating cheese and salami and listening to the Beach Boys. “I Get Around” is playing right now, and it’s much different than the 2pac version. but I like it nonetheless.

We do not play the Beatles in the Cohn Zohn, unless my mom is around. She’s out right now, so we don’t have to hear no “Eight Days a Week,” or anything corny like that. The Rolling Stones are up next – Beggars Banquet.

BULLETIN: 2 pm Pacific Time. Adam Schefter reports that Joshua Morgan is on the verge of signing with the Washington Redskins. If this goes through, the Niners have essentially traded Moss for Morgan. How do you feel about that?

Moss theoretically is what the Niners didn’t have and needed – a deep threat/red zone target. But he’s old and he’s got a problem personality. Morgan is young and likable. He’s a good No. 2 receiver, a great blocker and a great teammate.

They swapped an every down player for a selective down player. Do they really expect Moss to start? Or do they have to find a replacement for Morgan at flanker?

5:02 According to Matt Barrows, former Oakland Raider Chaz Schilens is scheduled to work out for 49ers.

Schilens (6-4, 225) is big and fast – he ran a 4.38 at his Combine in 2008. But he’s only played a full 16-game season once, back in ’08, and he’s never caught more than 29 catches in a season.

I’ve watched him play many times for the Raiders and I’ve always felt he has bad hands and poor ball skills. He’s similar to Darrius Heyward Bey when he tries to catch a jump ball down field, meaning he doesn’t even come close.

If the Niners sign Schilens, he’ll be Moss insurance, nothing more. He will not be a starter or a replacement for Josh Morgan.

It’s looking more and more like the Niners plan on starting Moss, which would be a very risky move, or they plan on picking a starter – Joshua Morgan’s replacement –  in the draft.

If they choose the draft route, Cal’s Marvin Jones would be a good pick – perhaps an eventual upgrade over Morgan. Jones is taller, quicker and faster than Morgan, plus he returns punts.

5:18 According to a league source, the Bills expect to sign Mario Williams AND Robert Meachem by tomorrow. That’s good and bad news for the Niners.

It’s good news because Mario Williams isn’t going to the Bears or the Seahawks or any NFC team, or any serious Super Bowl contender.

It’s also bad news because another wide receiver appears to be off the market. The Niners probably won’t be able to adequately replace Morgan in free agency, which puts a lot of pressure on their draft.

5:23 Now Vincent Jackson is off the market. He’s signing a five-year deal with the Buccaneers, according to Adam Schefter. No word yet on Mike Wallace.

5:59 Harry Douglas is re-signing with the Falcons, per his twitter. Another receiver off the market.

6:52 Reggie Wayne re-signs with the Colts on a three-year deal, according to Schefter.

9:19 The Bills may have expected to sign Robert Meachem earlier today, but they will do no such thing. The Chargers just announced they agreed to a four-year deal with Meachem.

BULLETIN: Brandon Lloyd will workout for the Niners Wednesday morning. He would be an upgrade at flanker over Joshua Morgan in 2012. He could also demand to be the Niners’ highest paid receiver. Lloyd (6-5, 192 lbs.) will be 31 next season. He caught 77 passes for a league-leaging 1,448 receiving yards and 11 TDs from Kyle Orton in 2010.
