SANTA CLARA — When quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo walked to the line of scrimmage with 9:40 left in the 49ers’ 44-33 win against the Jacksonville Jaguars, fans began to chant.

“M-V-P! M-V-P!”

Garoppolo won’t win that award this season — he has started only four games — but he’s playing as well as any quarterback in the league right now.

On Sunday, he faced a team that ranked first in the NFL in sacks on opposing quarterbacks, first in fewest passing yards allowed and first in fewest points allowed.

Garoppolo shredded them.

  1. Another great game by Jimmy G and the offense!! Made that #1 Jags’ D look like kittens… Can’t think of one team that would want to face us in the playoffs right now…. Hottest team in the NFL!! Kyle Shanahan + Jimmy G are turning out to be a formidable combo… Once the defense finds another solid corner and a legit pass rusher or two, look out.

  2. Jimmy Garopplo proves again NFL QB is the most important position in sports. I’m officially all in. Garopplo is a franchise QB and I could not possibly more excited about the future.

  3. lil cohn says the game was over with 9:40 left…..

Nope it wasn’t. Despite all the cohn claims that the Jags had given up, were falling apart, etc etc.

But hey, don’t let the facts get in the way of a hot take.

    1. To be fair on that one it looked like it was. I think most thought it was over, so I can’t see that as hot take journalism at that time.

  4. How much better can this team b next year? The starting right guard and right tackle in this game might not even make the team as backups next year. The left starting left guard is 50-50 at best. Goodwin and Taylor r the only 2 wide outs that played today that for sure will b on the opening day 53 next year. On the defensive side of the ball, Armstead, Tartt and Smith will all b coming off of IR. So…..between the draft and free agency we bring in a wr1, a corner and an interior ol. It will be an interesting off season which will lead to one of the most anticipated seasons of high hope in a long time.

  5. “I’ve always been OK with the sideline stuff,” Jaguars head coach Doug Marrone said. “It’s a very emotional game. Controlling our emotions when we’re on the field, that’s what we have to do a better job of.”

Crappy quote from Marrone. Rashard Robinson was sent packing after his sideline outburst. Shanny has also benched Johnson twice for committing multiple penalties on drives. Shanny is in control, Marrone is not.
