Ginn takes pay cut, according to league source

According to a league source, Ted Ginn Jr. agreed to a pay cut of over $1 million to stay with the Niners in 2011.

Ginn was supposed to earn $2,218,750 in 2011, but instead he’ll earn $1 million.

On top of that, the 49ers worked out free agent wide receiver Donnie Avery yesterday, according to reports.

So, even though the Niners list Ginn as a starting wide receiver, it’s not a stretch to say his spot on the team is tenuous. If he hadn’t agreed to this pay cut he probably wouldn’t be on the team right now.

Clearly Ginn needs to play as well early in the season as the coaching staff claims he’s played in the closed practices. If he doesn’t, if he has any bad drops, look for the Niners to workout more speedy wide receivers like Avery.
