Joe Looney on Alex Boone: “He’s a heck of a player. I want to do a great job just like he did.”

SANTA CLARA – Joe Looney was interviewed next to his locker Tuesday afternoon. Here’s a transcript.

Q: Do you think improved from the Ravens’ game to the Broncos’ game?

LOONEY: Yeah, I thought I played a little better. There is always stuff I can get better at doing, but I thought I played a better game with my pad level.

Q: You were on the inactive roster so much the past couple of years. Is just getting playing time something that is valuable to you?

LOONEY: It’s always fun to play in the games and help contribute to the team. I give credit to our Coach Solari. He’s always preparing us young guys every week like we’re going to play in the game.

Q: We see you out there before games, you guys are working as a unit. Has that helped your learning process throughout your career here?

LOONEY: Definitely. It gives you another edge, another day to run your offense or run plays out there. And you’re with your O-line coach. He’s giving you coaching points so it helps a lot.

Q: Has he adopted the iPad on the sideline?

LOONEY: He’s all paper. Ooh yeah.

Q: Is it just a matter of getting reps in live action? Is there no substitute for that in terms of improvement?

LOONEY: When I first got here, Coach Roman told me to get better at football you have to play it. Being in the preseason games helps everybody out.

Q: When you’re studying film of this offense the past couple of years, what does Alex Boone do that you try to emulate?

LOONEY: His technique. His physicality. He’s heck of a player. I want to do a great job just like he did.

Q: Have you talked to him at all?

LOONEY: No, I haven’t had a chance to talk to him.

Q: Do you and Boone and different styles? Are you guys different players?

LOONEY: Different players? We both have the same coach. He’s teaching us the same techniques. I think Coach Solari wants everybody to do the same techniques so everybody can be good across the board.
