John York on Singletary: He’s our coach

Mike Singletary now has more votes of confidence than
wins this season.

Niners owner John York said today in London that Singletary
will remain San Francisco’s head coach through the remainder of the season
despite the team’s 1-6 start.

“Yes,” York said. “He’s our coach.”

York’s vote of confidence came nearly three weeks after
his son, team president Jed York, offered a similar guarantee that Singletary
would remain on the sidelines through 2010.

Singletary’s hot seat seemed to get significantly warmer
after Sunday’s loss to the previously winless Panthers. After the defeat, CSN
Bay Area’s Matt Maiocco reported that John and Jed York were grumbling about the team’s poor
coaching.

“I’m not sure why somebody would have said that,” York
said. “We were grumbling because we lost the game. I think we grumble any time
we lose a game.”

UPDATE: The Niners said Alex Smith’s MRI revealed a sprain to the
AC joint in his left shoulder. Depending on the type, or grade, of
sprain, Smith could have a separation. The Niners haven’t revealed the specifics of the AC sprain.
Smith’s left arm remained in a sling today.
