SANTA CLARA – Colin Kaepernick spoke in the 49ers’ locker room Wednesday afternoon. Here’s what he said.
Q: What were your thoughts when you found out the Packers were the first game on the schedule after the way you guys ended their season a year ago?
KAEPERNICK: We’re just worried about this game right now. We’re not worried about what happened last year.
Q: Harbaugh said he’ll be talking to the league and the referees about hits on the quarterback on read-option plays. What’s your take on that?
KAEPERNICK: I’m not worried about that.
Q: Was that ever an issue in college, defenses trying to hit you after the fact on the read-option?
KAEPERNICK: It’s football. You’re going to get hit.
Q: And did that happen? Did your opponents tend to do that to you when you were at Nevada?
KAEPERNICK: They’ve done just about everything.
Q: This is your first season opener as the starting quarterback. What are your feelings going into this game?
KAEPERNICK: We have to win.
Q: In terms of the league’s ruling, did you talk to Harbaugh about that or did you talk to the referees about that?
KAEPERNICK: Coach asked for them to interpret it.
Q: Did you meet Clay Matthews in the offseason?
KAEPERNICK: Yes, we trained at the same facility over the summer.
Q: When you look at Green Bay’s defense, what stands out to you?
KAEPERNICK: They do a lot of things well. They have a lot of great players. We have to be ready.
Q: From an X’s and O’s standpoint, do you think there is anything you haven’t seen as far as what a defense can do to try to defend the types of plays you really burned the Packers on last season?
KAEPERNICK: You can only line 11 people up so many ways. We’ve seen a lot of different looks.
Q: There was a lady who scored 4 goals for USA soccer last, Sidney Leroux. There was a report that said you guys were dating.
KAEPERNICK: What’s your question?
Q: Were you watching and is she your girlfriend?
KAEPERNICK: Not my girlfriend. I didn’t see the game. I was working.
Q: Any thoughts on the last season at Candlestick?
KAEPERNICK: Have to end it right.
