LIVE: 49ers vs. Raiders

SAN FRANCISCO —

This is the live blog for the 49ers preseason game against the Raiders. I will be updating it frequently.

The times are Pacific Time.

FIRST QUARTER

5:07 26-yard return for Ted Ginn Jr. Took the ball out from deep in the end zone and got it past the 20 to the 23.

5:10 False start Anthony Davis. A quick first false start for the second year tackle.

5:12 Alex Smith complete to Vernon Davis for a first down on 3rd & 11, followed by a 11-yard run by Frank Gore for another first down. The tempo between plays for the 49ers is noticeably quick.

5:16 1st Niners timeout. Braylon Edwards dropped a well-thrown first down pass from Alex Smith. Smith has looked good on this opening drive, and so has the offensive line.

5:19 Nice 12-yard run by Anthony Dixon. For once he’s rewarded for bouncing the ball outside. Next play, he bounces the ball to the left for a gain of one.

5:20 Braylon Edwards catches the second ball thrown his way, but it looked like he pushed off on DeMarcus Van Dyke. No flags thrown.

5:22 On 3rd and goal Anthony Dixon gets the hand off but fails to get up field, and he’s stopped for no gain.

5:23 Andy Lee muffed the snap on the field goal attempt, picked the ball up and tried to throw it. It was intercepted, and Andy Lee went down on the field. Rolando McClain made the interception and returned it five yards. No points on the 49ers first drive. Lee walked off the field.

5:29 Niners hold the Raiders to three-and-out on their first drive. Bowman hit Jason Campbell on 3rd and 6 to force an incompletion.

5:34 Smith takes a big hit from Tommy Kelly but completes a nice pass to a wide open Joshua Morgan for a 32 yard gain.

5:37 Smith throws an interception right to defensive end Matt Shaughnessy. The pass was intended for Vernon Davis, but Smith looked at him the whole way, and the pass was badly under thrown.

5:39 Tramaine Brock gives up a 17-yard completion to Raiders rookie receiver Denarius Moore. Brock bit on the play fake.

SECOND QUARTER

5:44 Jason Campbell completes 22-yard pass to Heyward-Bey. Chris Culliver had good coverage but didn’t turn his head, and Heyward-Bey made the catch of his life. Ball on the 49ers 2.

5:46 Ray McDonald stops Marcel Reece in the backfield on 3rd and goal. McDonald’s having a very good game.

5:48 Raiders go for it on 4th down, Campbell has time to pass but finds no one open, and Parys Haralson sacks him. Niners ball at their own five.

5:50 Dixon bounces out to the left but cuts back and rushes for 15 yards. He’s being aggressive with his cut-backs so far and he’s picking up a lot of yardage.

5:53 Smith completes a 32-yard pass to Braylon Edwards streaking down the left sideline. Edwards caught the ball with his left hand only. Catch of the preseason so far for the Niners.

5:56 on 3rd and goal Smith lines up in the shotgun and hands the ball Anthony Dixon, who is stopped for no gain.

5:56 David Akers makes a 22-yard field goal. 3-0 49ers. Andy Lee is the holder, and he limps on and off the field.

6:06 Jason Campbell, running away from Justin Smith, drops the football and takes a big hit from Ahmad Brooks anyway. Campbell stays down for a minute, and then walks off the field. Still Raiders ball. Trent Edwards in at quarterback for the Raiders

6:09 After the 2-minute warning, 3rd & 1 for the Raiders, and Aldon Smith is in at ROLB for the Niners first-string defense.

6:15 Trent Edwards was moving the ball seemingly at will against the Niners, but back-to-back holding penalties on the Raiders gave them a 1st and 30. The next play was a near intentional grounding penalty for Edwards, and the Raiders have a 2nd and 30 from the Niners 32.

6:17 Badly under thrown ball by Trent Edwards ends up in Tarell Brown’s hands for an interception. Brown has narrowly outplayed Tramaine Brock today. Colin Kaepernick is in at QB.

END OF THE 1ST HALF

Alex Smith played well in the first half, completing 8 of 13 passes, but he threw an interception, and his QB rating was a measly 61.7. Jason Campbell, the Raiders starter, threw no picks and his QB rating was 105.7.

Anthony Dixon looked good, averaging 4.7 yards per carry, but Kendall Hunter looked terrific, rushing 4 times for 26 yards.

THIRD QUARTER

6:33 The 3rd Raiders quarterback, Kyle Boller, completes a pass for 8 yards to Derek Hagen, who beat Tarell Brown on the play.

6:36 Taylor Mays is in the game at safety.

6:39 Colin Kaepernick completes his first pass attempt of the evening to Kyle Williams for 12 yards and a first down.

6:40 Kendall Hunter starts his run right, cuts back left, and sprints 53 yards for a touchdown. Wow. Rookie Daniel Kilgore, playing left guard, had the key block to open up the hole for Hunter. Once he got through the hole, Hunter was gone. He’s very fast. Extra point good, 10-0 Niners.

6:44 Denarius Moore returns the kickoff 48 yards, and Madieu Williams pops him at the end of the run. Raiders have the ball at their own 45.

6:45 Ian Williams is in at NT for the Niners.

6:46 Ian Williams makes the tackle on first down, stopping Rock Cartwright after a 3-yard run.

6:48 On 3rd and 7, Aldon Smith gets pressure on Kyle Boller and plants him on his back hard as he throws an incompletion. Tarell Brown had tight coverage.

6:51 Kaepernick with a 13-yard strike to Konrad Reuland for a first down. Hunter had a huge block picking up the Raider blitz.

6:53 On 3rd and 8 Kaepernick throws to Lance Long on a quick slant, and the pass is broken up by Sterling Moore, who appeared to hit Long before the pass got to him. David Akers punts it 44 yards, not Andy Lee. Raiders ball at their own 27.

6:58 Chris Culliver gives up his second completion of the drive, as Boller connects with Derek Hagen for 14 yards and first down.

7:00 On 3rd and half a yard, Larry Grant blasts Michael Bennett in the backfield for a loss. Next play, Madieu Williams make a spectacular falling interception. Niner ball at their 40.

7:02 Jonathan Goodwin beaten by Desmond Bryant, and Kaepernick is sacked for a loss of 9.

7:03 On cue, Hunter rushes for 11 yards. He’s having an unbelievable game. 9 rushes for 105 yards 3rd and 8.

7:05 Huge fight in the stands. Looked like a Raider fan and a Niner fan throwing hay-makers. Kaepernick got sacked on 3rd down while I was watching the fight. Akers punt, Raiders ball at the SF 44.

FOURTH QUARTER

7:15 Sebastian Janikowski nails a 46-yard field goal. 10-3 Niners.

7:21 On 3rd and 3, Kaepernick completes a pass to Bruce Miller for a gain of nine. Bruce Miller can do everything.

7:22 Next play, Xavier Omon rushes for seven yards up the middle.

7:26 Omon lowers his head and gets 6 yards up the middle. Is he the only 49er running back who can do that?

7:27 Kaepernick connects with Kyle Williams for a 13-yard completion. Williams was diving backwards as he caught the ball with hands high above his body. Ginn Jr. doesn’t make that catch.

7:32 Omon sweeps around the left side for a 5-yard touchdown run. That drive was all Omon. Is he better than Anthony Dixon? It seems like it. 17-3 Niners.

7:36 Demarcus Dobbs pancakes Alex Parsons and sacks Kyle Boller.

7:38 I’m heading down the field and locker room now. Back at you soon.
