Live blog 2: 49ers vs. Chargers

SAN FRANCISCO — Here’s the second live blog for the 49ers final preseason game. I’ll be updating this one, not the other one.

9:05 Josh Johnson is back on the field for his second series.

9:13 Great drive for Josh Johnson. He converted all three third downs, including a 13-yard completion to Brett Swain on third-and-6. Johnson finished the drive with TD pass to a wide-open Garrett Celek in the end zone. 35-0.

9:17 Darcel McBath just crushed Presley at the 12-yard line on the kick return. McBath might make the team – he’s played much better than Trenton Robinson.

9:20 Josh Johnson’s stat line: 6 for 6, 88 yards, 2 TDs, 158.3 rating. 3 rushes, 25 yards.

9:25 LaMichael James fumbles the punt this time, but he snatches it off the ground before a Charger can. Tolzien time at the SF 22.

9:32 Tolzien throws a pick right to a Chargers backup defender. I’m guessing the Niners cut Tolzien tomorrow, he clears waivers and gets a spot on the practice squad. Johnson is better.

9:35 The Chargers are off the schneid – Nate Kaeding kicks a field goal. 35-3.

9:43 Johnson overthrew Chris Owusu deep, and then Nathan Palmer let a pass bounce of his chest on third and five.

9:49 Harbaugh has challenged 10,000 plays tonight.

9:51 James fumbles his third punt of the night, but he recovers it.

9:53 Tolzien just got sacked, but it wasn’t Al Netter’s fault.

9:54 Tolzien threw a perfect pass to Owusu on third and 9 but Owusu dropped it. The Niners can have him and Palmer on their practice squad I’d bet. No one will claim them.

10:02 Johnson gets a third pass batted down at the line of scrimmage, but he follows that with a beautiful pass to Palmer for a gain of 14.

10:06 Steve Young, I mean Josh Johnson, just scrambled for 26 yards.

10:08 Johnson follows that up with a 9-yard pass on first and goal from the ten, and then he takes a knee and the game ends.
