Maragos: Singletary is a dream come true

LeGarrette Blount found the Titans more to his liking, but at least a couple of the 49ers’ recently signed undrafted free agents sound thrilled to be coming to Santa Clara.

Wisconsin safety Chris Maragos had this to say to his hometown paper, the Racine (Wisc.) Journal-Times: “Coach Singletary is a dream come true. He played football the way I’ve been taught to play.”

Maragos later added: “I just wanted to get in with a team. I obviously would have liked to have been drafted, but I’ll tell you this much: There’s 31 reasons I have right now as to why everyone is going to have to know what my name is. There’s definitely a lot of motivation I have.”

Gotta like the fire.

Meanwhile, cornerback Patrick Stoudamire spoke to the Western Courier, the Western Illinois University student paper.

“There were a couple of teams interested,” he said. “In fact, the New York Giants was the first team to call, then the 49ers called right after. I’ve always loved San Francisco, and they are my dad’s favorite team. They have a great coaching staff. I’m looking forward to playing for Coach Singletary; he’s one of the best linebackers to ever play the game. I like the area. I’ve been down to San Francisco a lot. I think it’s a great fit for me, and it’s also close to home.”

Stoudamire is from Portland.

Is it just me, or is Singletary starting to sound like a Rick Pitino-style recruiter?
