Niners’ 2011 preseason schedule unveiled

The NFL interrupted its mediation prep today to unveil its preseason schedule.

In its push for an 18-game regular season, remember, the league conceded the obvious – fans found preseason games largely unappetizing.

No matter, NFL fans, for obvious reasons, will likely be relieved if they can still pony up for the right to watch thoroughly unwatchable fourth quarters this summer.

Here’s the 49ers’ schedule (make that, tentative schedule) — times have not been determined. (EDIT: And neither have the specific dates, evidently. NFL.com initially had specific dates for most games — or did I dream that? — but now the dates of most games are more general).

Preseason schedule

Week 1 (Aug 11-15): at New Orleans, CBS-5
Note: The 49ers have never played a preseason game in The Big Easy.

Week 2: vs. Oakland, CBS-5
Note: The teams will meet in the preseason for the 11th straight year.

Week 3: vs. Houston, CBS-5
Note: Come witness history — the Niners and Texans have never met in the preseason.

Week 4: at San Diego, CBS-5
Note: For those scoring at home (and shame on you if you are), the Niners can deadlock the all-time preseason series against the Chargers, who lead 20-19.

• The regular-season schedule is expected to be released at some point before the start of the NFL draft on April 28.
