Niners sign Darcel McBath

SANTA CLARA –Dashon Goldson may hold out the beginning of training camp – he still hasn’t signed his franchise tag – so the Niners were proactive Monday, signing defensive back Darcel McBath to a one-year contract.

The Denver Broncos drafted McBath with the 48th overall pick in 2009. Current Niners defensive backs coach Ed Donatell was on the Broncos staff at the time, so McBath has a connection to Niners current coaching staff.

McBath (6-1, 198 pounds) mostly played free safety for the Broncos before he got cut last offseason. He later signed with the Jaguars, but he broke his arm and again was cut. He’s a good special teams player, and he will compete with C.J. Spillman for the third safety job.
