Plenty of 49ers to see Rice’s induction

When Jerry Rice looks out upon what promises to be a reverent crowd at Fawcett Stadium in Canton, Ohio, on August 7, he will not be the lone 49er in the wilderness. According to the Pro Football Hall of Fame, at least nine former Niners will be there to see Rice inducted – the most of any NFL team.

Attendance by existing Hall of Famers has become one of the fun rituals of induction weekend. The 49ers’ contingent will include Fred Dean, John Henry Johnson, Ronnie Lott, Hugh McElhenny, Joe Montana, Joe Perry, Bob St. Clair, Dave Wilcox and Steve Young. That’s quite a lineup. And I know for sure that 49ers fan extraordinaire Harry Troutt, who lives in Santa Rosa with his wife Kitten and has his own place in the fan section of the Hall, will be there, too.

Just one question: If Montana and Young both stand up in the middle of Rice’s speech and throw him footballs, which one will he catch? Ah, hell, it’s the GOAT – he’ll probably catch them both.
