The Yorks greet the fans

SAN FRANCISCO – At 4:00 p.m. Pacific Time John and Jed York were standing next to the field chatting.

A group of twelve year olds walked right through them, unaware they were bumping the owners of the 49ers. As they passed the Yorks, one twelve-year-old had an epiphany, turned back and asked Jed, “Are you the owner of the 49ers?”

Jed nodded his head self-effacingly and said yes, and shook the boy’s hand.

Shortly after Jed and his father said goodbye and Jed walked around the northern rim of the field with his head down and his hands in his pockets. No fans in the stands interrupted his stroll.

John walked the opposite direction. He walked up to every single fan he came across, on the sideline and in the first row of the stands, introduced himself, shook their hands, and gave them a 49er pin. He did that for at least 30 people before he left the field.

Maybe at opening day they’ll pass out a pin to you.
