The 49ers have added a veteran wide receiver. According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, San Francisco has agreed to terms with Chris Conley.
Conley entered the NFL in 2015 as a third-round pick of the Kansas City Chiefs. The former Georgia Bulldog played four seasons with the Chiefs. During that time, Conley made 34 starts hauling in 104 passes for 1,238 yards and six touchdowns.
The Jacksonville Jaguars signed Conley as a free agent in 2019. Conley posted career best numbers during his first season with the Jaguars. The new addition finished with 775 yards and five touchdowns.
Conley began the 2022 season with the Texans and split time between the team’s practice squad and active roster. He appeared in two games before being released on October 4, 2022. Conley then signed to the Chiefs practice squad on October 6, 2022 before signing to the Titans active roster on October 25, 2022 where he went on to appear in seven games with one start and registered four receptions for 46 yards.
The veteran gives San Francisco depth at the back of a deep wide receiver room. Conley is unlikely to make 53-man squad but could hook on with the practice squad.

This seems like a strange signing. Conley was Avg at his best and more recently has been well below Avg. I don’t see him beating out Tay Martin. They will probably draft a WR, there are some very interesting WRs that will be available in the 6th or 7th round.
agree.. a very odd signing. The Niners have only one or two good signings over the summer and they have lost some genuinely good defensive players. Overall, a down off-season so far. He does not make the team, of course, and I think he departs by the end of camp if not before. We have real holes to fill so please look around at legitimate signings!
Can we find an adept blocking TE among free agents?
Camp fodder or a sign the 49ers aren’t sold on Danny Gray?
MidWest, Scooter on the Inspired49ers blog suggested the possibility of the latter too. Maybe to put a fire under Gray?
Mid,
I think if they have any questions about Gray they will show it through the draft with a speedy pick, Conley is far from speedy.
Conley has been lost at sea for most of his career. I agree with Coach that this is a strange signing.
This could or may not have anything to do with Danny Gray. I’m of the opinion that Gray was drafted with the intention of being a deep threat with Lance as QB.
Gray’s ability to go deep could still become an option if Darnold wins the starting role.
Although, the starting QB job is Purdy’s, there’s still some question as to whether he’ll be ready to play at the start of the season. If he can’t, Gray might be a nice weapon for the strong arms of either Trey or Sam.
Just saw a post by David Lombardi regarding the supposed B. Purdy quote about how he was unsure whether he would play in 2023 at all. Lombardi has the actual audio of the interview. Purdy seems to be answering a question asking him if he has a return date and he answers that “actually he doesn’t” He is not answering actually he doesn’t know if he will even play at all in 23 but that he actually doesn’t have a return date in 23. So all of the hysteria coming out of the Cohn camp and those like him is ridiculous. Purdy is going to play in 23 its just in mid March he doesn’t have a hard and fast return date. This is why i’m always saying if you want accuracy listen to the Lombardi/ Hammers of the world. imho
So where did you get the information when you posted the same thing? Did you get it from Cohen?
I got it straight from the Yahoo article. I quoted the article verbatim with no editorializing.
OC, Jack definitely likes to stick to the facts. Cohn likes to speculate and wants to come of as clever and a pundit. GC goes for clickbait and that is why he does so well with the national press. Years ago I asked him to republish his season predictions AFTER the season was over to compare with the results. He never did, but guess who did without prompting this year on this site!
It shows confidence, integrity and a willingness to look at your self. There is no shame in making mistakes in mock drafts, predictions or guesswork.
The problem comes when there is no accountability as you showed with your Purdy recovery tales.
exactly. It seems pretty obvious that OC has an agenda concerning Purdy.
Felix,
I have an agenda concerning B. Purdy? What might that agenda be? That I hope he heals quickly and is ready for T.C.? That I am rooting for him to play at the same level he did last year? That If he gets fully healthy he gives the 9ers their best chance to win a S.B. over what Lance or Darnold have shown so far. Help me out here what is my agenda concerning BP?
OC, please ignore that girl. She’s just trying to provoke you and twist my words!
DO NOT FEED THE TROLL!
Okay girl, how did I twist your last sentence?this should be interesting.
Felix
“Okay girl, how did I twist your last sentence?” “this should be interesting.”
* OK Felix just for fun, lets count the ways?
* Have you ever been accused of being a homer? Or, perhaps NOT being a homer?
* Do you have a knee jerk response to (attack) anyone who dares post anything but positive things about the 9ers? If you don’t agree, do you immediately find fault with what they’ve said? RE OldCoach?
* Funny thing about arm chair QB’s, most have never played in any organized football league, even
second squad high school? Just curious, have you?
* Since oldCoach has volunteer he’s coached high school football, that should (but hasn’t), given you pause to judge his football acumen! Care to elaborate?
* Old adage Felix: Some people may think you’re a fool, so why speak and remove all doubt?
* FOOD FOR THOUGHT: Since this blog is an open forum, allowing everyone to post their opinion(s), Before posting your opinion, try giving thought to what others on the blog may think of yours!
Are you Dee Phiant but just with a different name?
Felix says: “Are you Dee Phiant but just with a different name?” Really? That’s all you got? LOL
* WHY Felix, would I feel the need to hide from YOU, after calling you out? Like I’m going to call you and then hide? Try harder Felix, you just stepped in it!
* Thanks for provide proof of the old adage: People may think you’re a fool, so why post and remove all doubt? Are you hiding from that
OC, I don’t know what your agenda is, but there has to be a reason why you keep posting things about how Purdy will not be able to start well into the season or not at all when all the information we have clearly shows the odds are in favor of him being ready at the start of the season. As for your posted quote about Purdy not being sure he’d play this year, it makes no sense that he meant what you implied in the post. Common sense would dispute the meaning of what he said which is why I wonder if you have an agenda. Maybe I’m wrong and you’re just a pessimist.
Felix: “Maybe I’m wrong and you’re just a pessimist.”
* OR Felix, there is also the possibility your ego feels the need to be superior?
Or maybe I just seek the truth as I see it.
So Felix, I’ll accept your apology, “Or maybe I just seek the truth as I see it.” An opinion of one. * Did you really mean to say that Felix? That tired old cliche is the best you can do?
Blah blah blah.
Felix,
I’m glad you clarified what you think my agenda concerning Purdy is. You were referring to my posts regarding his return. What I have said is I have no idea when he will return. There has been a total of 2 QBs in the history of the game who have had this procedure (one of them being BP) so their is no real timeline for recovery. Mullens was able to come back in 5 -6 months but we don’t know how effectively he came back he threw a few passes in a preseason game. I hope BP is ready to go by game one, all my posts have said is the 9ers better have have a starting level QB ready to go in case and we just don’t know when he will be back so that QB should be ready to go for at least a quarter of the season. Another reason I believe the 49ers need a starting level QB behind BP has nothing to do with health, it may take BP a few weeks of full practice to play games, even if he has a healthy arm. Am I betting he won’t be ready game one, no because neither you or I know enough about the recovery time for this surgery. For Gods sake even KS and JL have a pretty big difference of opinion on his return date.
FYI, Jack believes he will be back between August 1st and 15th. I hope even a little earlier but even the 15th gives him plenty of time to get ready for the opener. I also expect both Trey and Darold will be on the 53 unless one of them looks really good in preseason games in which case they would be a possible candidate for a trade.
Well said, this could or may not have anything to do with Danny Gray. I’m of the opinion that Gray was drafted with the intention of being a deep threat with Lance as QB!!!
According to Rapoport, several teams have called the Niners making inquiries about the availability of Trey Lance. I’m sure these teams are hoping to pick up a potential starter on the cheap. I’m also sure the Niners aren’t going to bite on a cheap offer. They are committed to giving Lance a chance to prove himself during OTA and TC. I think they would like to start the season with all 3 on the 53. If at some point Lance’s stock rises, then maybe a trade.
Jack has promoted the idea that Aiyuk might be traded during the draft if the right player is available. This is very interesting. Aiyuk will be seeking a big contract at some point and with their other pass catchers it probably makes sense to trade him for a player in a position of need. RT, edge?
“Per a league source, the two teams [Vikings & 49ers] talked about Trey Lance.”
“The source doesn’t know whether that’s currently happening.”
“It’s now obvious that the 49ers are looking to move on.”
Mike Florio
What a load of crap. This guy makes sh*t up out of thin air just for content for his site. I don’t think a more despicable human being exists than Mike Florio. His entire model is to steal articles from real journalists and make up everything else to fill in the gaps. I truly have no idea why NBC would partner with this scumbag.
More click bait. Maybe Cohen learned from Florio.
Leading up to the draft the 49ers had 3 QB’s as potential picks.
Justin Fields, Mac Jones and Trey Lance. This is what Mike Florio said..
“”Hey, I got a former GM insisting that it’s Fields—insisting that it’s Fields—which is stunning to me,” Florio said.
After that statement he went on to say that Mac Jones was the type of QB that Shanahan was looking for.
This “fake” sports analyst was wrong on both counts. Even if he’s right on this latest report (which I have trouble believing), this dude has lost all credibility in my book.
Hey Jack,
I caught a little bit of your 2.0 mock draft with GC yesterday.
Will you reveal it today for your readers?
Thx
At the very minimum these latest Lance trade rumors will give me reason to pay more attention to the first and second round of the draft. Any guesses on who the 9ers might choose if they do pick up a late 1st or early 2nd round pick?
My guess would be OT followed by Edge, Corner. QB as a surprise choice.
That said, I don’t want to see Trey traded. Let him develop.
1st Round Picks 2017-Present
Pick Numbers
3 Solomon Thomas
31 Reuben Foster
9 McGlinchey
2 Nick Bosa
14 Javon Kinlaw
25 Brandon Aiyuk
3 (12, 29, 29, 3rd) Trey Lance
I’m hoping it’s just routine fielding trade offers and not actively shopping Trey Lance.
Let Trey Play
B2W,
Just think about how many more SBs they might have won if they had hit on a couple more of those picks.
Honorable Mention: RBs Trey Sermon. Joe Williams and McKinnon’s massive contract (TDP is TBD)
Trading up way more than trading back is not a good sign. I think Lynch (Peters helping) should have final draft and FA say.
To be fair to Shanahan I’m cherry picking bad choices. Three NFCCGs in five years is outstanding. Winning is winning.
I believe in Peters more than Lynch. I think Lynch was behind the Thomas pick. imho
As a former Stanford grad and rookie first time GM, I will begrudgingly give Lynch a pass on the Solly pick. But still not happy about it.
It wasn’t a horrible pick. Just not worth the #3. The worst one was Foster.
