Who is the best quarterback in the Bay Area right now, and why?

Jimmy Polo because he’s golden on 3rd downs.

              1. I’m not convinced that Carr can deliver staring down the barrel of a sawed-off shotgun like Jimmy does either.

              2. Don’t mind Jack. He still won’t wash his dong because Houston9er’s wife’s lipstick is all over it. 🧽 💄

          1. WTF is your problem, Hammer? Enough with your insincere BS rationalizations. Either come out and say Jimmy is crap or don’t post anything. This backhanded sh*t isn’t a good look for you.

            1. Pretty sure I don’t have a problem.

Both guys are good QB’s, Their 3rd down conversion % is pretty much the same.

If you don’t like it being stated, Bummer.

            2. Rib all offseason and now Jack tippy toes around the fact he doesn’t like Jimmy G.
He can pu$$y foot around it all he wants. Jimmy wins games. That’s something his little stat card cannot deny.
              Winning matters!

              1. Are you trying to tell me your commentary all offseason wasn’t critical of Jimmy G?
And this little Carr comparison isn’t some slight?

              2. Being critical of someone doesn’t mean you don’t like them.

Pointing out that Carr and Watson are pretty much tied with Garoppolo is a slight?

                Oy vey!

              3. Trying to debate or make a comparison between the 49ers QB to a Raiders QB tells me your fandom needs sharpening.
But even you forget fandom for a minute, most experts will tell you Jimmy G is probably the guy you build a franchise around over David Carr.

              4. « debate or make a comparison between the 49ers QB to a Raiders QB »

By pointing out that they are nearly identical in 3rd down conversion % and that the team is good enough to be 7-0 with either of them? You’re awesome bro.

“most experts will tell you Jimmy G is probably the guy you build a franchise around over David Carr.”

Oh I totally agree with you there. Nobody wants to build their team around David Carr. Dude hasn’t thrown a pass in 7 years.

              5. The Raiders tried like crazy to trade him in the offseason. No takers.
                What does that tell you?
                Sorry Derek Carr

              6. “ By pointing out that they are nearly identical in 3rd down conversion % and that the team is good enough to be 7-0 with either of them? You’re awesome bro“

Let’s add that they both wear Nike sneakers. Point is who gives a flying F what their 3rd down conversion rate is? Seriously, anyone on this blog care? Raise your hands?
                It’s about WINS!

              7. “Point is who gives a flying F what their 3rd down conversion rate is? Seriously, anyone on this blog care? Raise your hands?”

Considering it was the comment below that started this thread, and was the second or third time today that this particular person had brought up Garoppolo’s 3rd down conversion prowess, well, that’s your answer.

Try to follow the thread before jumping in and making yourself look silly.

And I’ll say it again, who gives a flying F what Carr or Jimmy G’s 3rd down conversion rate is? I like Razor but it doesn’t matter. It would matter and be objective if both QB’s ran the same offense with the same personnel.
QB’s get judged by wins and loses. That’s all that matters in this league. All the other stuff is for people who are bored.

              9. Prime,
Saying no one cares about third down conversions is like saying no one cares about TD’s. Fans want the qb to be the reason for wins not someone dragged along to them.
It’s much easier to maintain a winning record going forward if the qb is the catalyst. Teams that did so without the qb leading the way were almost all one and done.
Jimmy has more wins than Patrick Mahomes this season but their isn’t a GM in the league that would take Jimmy over him.
I don’t have any issue with Carr comparison he is a very good player. I had more of an issue with the Nick Mullens comparisons even when many of their stats were similar.

              10. Get over your 49ers fandom

WTF Jack? Niner fan is what I am. What we are. You? Jack: “Nice game Niners, Raiders could done just as well.”

              11. Using a stat like 3rd down conversion to compare players isn’t accurate. Nor can it distinguish between who is better:
I’ve said this for years, stats lie in football.
Carr is a good player. Garoppolo is a good player. Because one has a better conversion rate through 7 games some how separates the two? Not likely.

My point was Hammer like Rib said “ setting the stage for when that mythical game arrives, that the team loses directly due to some gaff that Jimmy has provided (a walk off pick six would be perfect!)
It’s been happening all year and anyone that can’t see him biting his nails waiting to tell everyone I told you so, or some criticism towards Lynch, Shanny and Jimmy, well just wait, you know it’s coming.
I mean all offseason all you heard out of Jack was Shanny’s offense could only produce yards, not points. Lynch has not drafted or acquired quality talent, and Jimmy hasn’t shown enough to warrant franchise money.

              12. It’s called responding in kind.

                “Ribico says:

Hammer……If you want to suck Raider 🍆 how about doing it over on their site.”

If you can’t take it, don’t dish it out.

              13. I’m glad to see we have some common ground beyond the 49ers, Officer Hammer. We’re both counter punchers, just like President Trump!

            3. Hammer, as a Niner fan I couldn’t give two 💩 about Carr or any other team’s QB. Why are you building him up in comparison to JG, our teams QB on 3rd downs or anything else? Just to be a contrary @sshole? If you want to suck Raider 🍆 how about doing it over on their site.

              1. To be fair he responded to a question posed by Grant on the blog. Hammer normally is fairly contrarian but in this case it was not initiated by him.

              2. Shoup, Prime, it’s hilariously transparent. They are setting the stage for when that mythical game arrives, that the team loses directly due to some gaff that Jimmy has provided (a walk off pick six would be perfect!) Grant, Hammer et al will get high upon their “I told you so” soapboxes . They live for that moment.

              3. “They are setting the stage for when that mythical game arrives, that the team loses directly due to some gaff that Jimmy has provided (a walk off pick six would be perfect!)”

                Rib,
Fair enough… I wouldn’t disagree with that premise.

              4. Rib,

Get over your 49ers fandom. Garoppolo is a good quarterback. In this case a question was asked, someone noted that Garoppolo is the golden boy on third down, and I noted that his numbers and those of Carr and Watson are pretty much the same.

I haven’t said that one is better than the other. If you can’t handle that maybe you can suck my 🍆 on this 49ers blog.

              5. “Niner fan is what I am. What we are. You?”

                Rib,

Are you really this stupid, or just playing like it on the blog?

              6. “They are setting the stage”

This is some of the dumbest poop I’ve ever read.

Yeah, I’ve watched just about every 49ers game for as long as I remember with the hope they fail. LMAO!

While your sucking my 🍆 Rib, leave room for PT to lick my Pom Pom’s.

              7. Ok Jack, tell us how “Niner Fans”, stupid or not are supposed to act? Like you? Longing for a coach who’s no longer here? Harp endlessly on this or that player that’s preventing the team from what? It can’t be a perfect record?

I posted back before the season about how, even if winning, there would be all categories of fans critiquing minutiae BS. Thank you for fitting that stereotype in spades.

              8. Yeah, I’ve watched just about every 49ers game for as long as I remember with the hope they fail. LMAO!

If they end up 15-1 (not a failure in anyone’s book) I predict we will hear endlessly about that 1 from you and Grant. Prove me wrong.

              9. At least CFC doesn’t pretend to be a 49ers fan. They say winning is the best deodorant, but in the case of CFC, it’s the best silencer. Coinkydink? I think not. Just as soon as they lose, he will gladly resume his assiduous campaign for Ballard and Toub….

              10. Rib,

I’m not telling anyone how to act. Just laughing at you for trying to put words out there that I didn’t say and grasping at straws regarding potential motives for my comments. All wrong, by the way. And I’m pretty sure it was you who told me to go comment elsewhere.

« If they end up 15-1 (not a failure in anyone’s book) I predict we will hear endlessly about that 1 »

                My word, you’re awesome.

              11. . Just laughing at you for trying to put words out there that I didn’t say and grasping at straws regarding potential motives for my comments

Jack, maybe you don’t realize… when reading between the lines, with you there’s way more between than lines.

              12. So don’t read between the lines. If I mean or feel something I’ll write it.

                You continually assume.

        1. They both came into the league the same year as 2nd rounders. One got thrown to the wolves while the other sat and watched.

          1. LOL. Just couldn’t bring yourself to do it, eh? I know when they came into the league. Thrown to the wolves, eh? You do realize that you actually have to play to get better, right? How much better do you believe Carr could have been had he not faced the “wolves”, and got to sit and watch?

              1. Does the PD hire you when times are slow to come on here and stir up non sense? Or are you just filling in for Seb?

              2. Yeah, because spending 3 1/2 years backing up Brady and playing for Belichick did nothing for Garoppolo.

              3. No one said it didn’t help him out, but I hope you’re not suggesting that it helped more than actually playing or getting starter reps throughout training camps and practices. You’re not are you?

              4. And other guys who were thrown in and excelled. It can go either way and as NFL history has shown, there is no right or wrong way.

        2. Looks like it is 85 games that he has played in and based on the high snap counts, I’m assuming he started them as well. So over 5 times as many games as Jimmy.

              1. I feel confident Jimmy would be 7-0 in Houston if he had Hopkins to throw to, but they couldn’t both wear #10.

              2. Gotta disagree with you here Razor. Deshaun Watson is a great talent playing for one of the worst coaches in the NFL. Watson’s escapability makes him special. Jimmy G wouldn’t survive behind the Texans wretched O Line. IMO the Texans current talent is perfectly suited for Lincoln Riley’s offense. Fire O’Brien and hire Riley and I guarantee the Texans would win their division next year.

              3. Razor I have to disagree with this…
Watson has been very good. 16/5 td to int ratio, 69% comp pct., 2,231 passing yards and a 105.7 qbr. Jimmy has 9/7 td to int ratio, 69% comp pct, 1,489 passing yards and a 93.6 qbr.

3rd down conversions are very important but it is not so much more important that it trumps all other stats combined.

              4. Houston, Jimmy moves better than advertised and the line he played behind in 2017 was a leaky cauldron….

              5. Shoup, those stats are all fine and dandy but I believe Jimmy would have similar numbers if he had a receiver like Hopkins to throw it up to….

              6. Houston9er, I would also remind you that Polo has been playing with both flanks manned by backups, and without the Ow….

    1. They are both talented QB’s, but Jimmy G. stands tall in the face of a heavy pass rush, while Derek Carr literally cries under similar circumstances, so advantage Garoppolo.

And for those who think Carr’s crying is an exaggeration, or figure of speech …. roll the fricken tape! Carr literally cried like a baby after being tackled to the ground, and that’s simply pathetic!

    1. Cubus,

That dot (.) really scared me. Thought for a second that arrogant old man was back spewing nonsense here again.

  2. Great Periscope Grant. Thanks for highlighting the Trap game. Been watching football for over 50 years and can’t tell you how many long runs I’ve watched coming off a trap block. Why it became a dinosaur I will never know. Glad Kyle now has it in his arsenal..

        1. You’re starting to make me think you go to sleep every night dreaming you and Nick are the 2 guys from the Anthony Mackie Black Mirror episode that like playing super realistic video games together.

    1. Tough… in keeping with the old west theme of the 49ers maybe the stampede or the wild bunch or maybe the FABB 4 for the front (Ford, Armstead, Buckner and Bosa)?

REPLY: Seb, you don’t win by burning down your neigbor’s shed. They will be monitoring your house on the 31st to make sure there’s more treats than dirty tricks.

You have set the bar at an all time low and I’m ashamed to call you Niner fan.

    1. #49ers’ Deebo Samuel’s gone under the radar the last few weeks, but he’s doing exactly what Shanahan expected when they drafted him in the second round:

      – Average Separation (3.6 yds) — 9th
      – YAC per catch (8 yds) — 4th
