This is the live blog for the 49ers Week 3 road game against the Kansas City Chiefs. I will update this frequently with information and analysis from my living room.

9:32 Here are the 49ers inactives:

  1. S Jaquiski Tartt
  2. OG Joshua Garnett
  3. WR Richie James
  4. OG Najee Toran
  5. OT Shon Coleman
  6. CB Greg Mabin
  7. DL Jullian Taylor

9:33 Marquise Goodwin is active, and so is Malcolm Smith. He will start at strong-side linebacker.

9:33 Jimmie Ward will start at right cornerback instead of Ahkello Witherspoon. Strange decision. Ward is even worse than Witherspoon.

9:34 Here is my pregame report:

10:02 The Chiefs win the toss and defer.

10:05 The 49ers go three-and-out. Kyle Shanahan didn’t call one run for Matt Breida.

10:18 On first-and-goal from the one-yard line, Kareem Hunt strolls into the end zone untouched. The Chiefs lead 7-0. That was a demoralizing first drive for the 49ers. They forced Patrick Mahomes to check down, find his second and third receivers in the progression and drive the length of the field. But, they couldn’t stop a simple screen pass. They gave up a 14-yard gain on third-and-15, then couldn’t stop the Chiefs on fourth-and-1.

10:25 On third-and-11 from the Chiefs 37, Dee Ford beats Joe Staley and sacks Jimmy Garoppolo. The 49ers punt.

10:26 The first play of the drive was a 26-yard run by Matt Breida. He never got the ball again. Shanahan is being too cute with his play calling. He needs to call what works.

10:36 On third-and-16 from the 49ers 32, K’Waun Williams commits a pass interference penalty in the end zone. Next play, Kareem hunts walks into the end zone for another touchdown. The Chiefs lead 14-0. Another demoralizing drive. Andy Reid’s script netted him 14 points. Brilliant shifts, motions and play calls, especially the screens.

10:50 On first-and-10 from the Chiefs 34, Garoppolo throws a touchdown pass to a wide open Kyle Juszczyk, and the 49ers trail 14-7. Great play by Kyle Shanahan. He needs to score from outside the red zone.

10:58 The Chiefs respond with a five-play touchdown drive. The final play was a back-breaker. Mahomes dropped back, rolled left into pressure, rolled back to his right and hit Chris Conley in the back-right corner of the end zone. The Chiefs lead 21-7.

11:03 On the first play of the drive, Garoppolo misses a deep throw to Marquise Goodwin. The 49ers go three-and-out. This is a critical moment in the game. The 49ers defense needs to force a punt or a turnover.

11:14 Antone Exum strips Kareem Hunt on the second play of the drive, but Tyreek Hill recovers. Seven plays later, Mahomes throws a 13-yard touchdown pass to a wide open Demetrius Harris. Feels like this game is over. The Chiefs lead 28-7.

11:19 Breida injures his leg on the first play of the drive and limps off the field.

11:22 On third-and-12 from the 49ers 29, Garoppolo throws late to Kendrick Bourne running an out-route, and Orlando Scandrick breaks up the pass. The Chiefs get the ball at their 32 with 2:00 minutes and two timeouts remaining after the punt.

11:34 On first-and-goal from the five, Mahomes completes a short pass to Sammy Watkins, who breaks 15 tackles and scores. The Chiefs lead 35-7.

11:40 Robbie Gould makes a 39-yard field goal as the second quarter end. The 49ers trail 35-10. The Chiefs will get the ball to start the third quarter. They have scored touchdowns during all five of their drives.

11:55 Richard Sherman is out with a calf injury.

12:00 On third-and-3 from the Chiefs 48, Harris drops a first-down pass, and the Chiefs punt for the first time. The 49ers will take over from their 13.

12:08 On first-and-10 from the Chiefs 11, Garoppolo throws a touchdown pass to a wide open Goodwin. But, Gould misses the extra points, so the 49ers trail 35-16.

12:16 The Chiefs go three-and-out. Dante Pettis returns the punt to the 49ers 45, but Elijah Lee committed a block in the back. The 49ers take over from their 23.

12:25 On first-and-goal from the 3, Alfred Morris powers into the end zone. The 49ers go for two. Garoppolo completes a shovel pass to Kittle, and the 49ers trail 35-24.

12:45 On third-and-6 from the Chiefs 19, Mahomes throws the ball away as he gets hit by DeForest Buckner and Solomon Thomas. Harrison Butker makes a 37-yard field goal, and the Chiefs lead 38-24. Reuben Foster got the wind knocked out of him during the drive and missed a play. Solomon Thomas injured something on the final play.

1:03 On first-and-goal from the 4, Garoppolo gets sacked. Next play, second-and-goal from the 12, Garoppolo gets sacked again and fumbles. The 49ers recover. Next play, third-and-12, Garoppolo scrambles for 13 yards, plants his left leg to make a cut instead of running out of bounds and injures his left knee. He leaves the game.

1:04 C.J. Beathard replaces Garoppolo at quarterback. On fourth-and-goal from the 7, Beathard throws a touchdown pass to Kittle, but Jusczyk committed offensive pass interference. The 49ers kick a field goal and trail 38-27 with 5:17 left.

1:08 The 49ers just carted Garoppolo off the field. Good grief.

1:17 The 49ers lose 38-27. Stay tuned for my postgame Periscope and grades.

  1. Any insight on the development of J Taylor Grant?
Do you anticipate we see any shuffling on D? – either in the secondary or on the DL (moving Buckner outside more often).

    1. Wahoooooooooooo, I am loving it. Fire Shanahan is coming soon. Dump Crapolo, put him on the bench baby. Draft a real QB! Garopolo is a backup QB, remember that.

  2. Tartt out and AW not starting, Mahomes must be salivating. Blitz, blitz, and blitz some more. Mahomes will get his no matter how he is attacked.

  3. Perhaps Ward is the sacrificial lamb here and they didn’t want to see AW toasted in back to back games…. Especially if his confidence is already waning. That or he’s still not 100%.

    1. Whooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo, Jimmy Ward gets BURNED baby, Dilly Dilly KC! Yeah! 49ers D is GARBAGE!

      1. I’m not ready to start with a new regime after just one full season. C’mon now. Saleh can go, but this is just year 2 of a 3-4 year plan and Lynch and Shanny started with a team with absolutely zero talent.

  4. We will need our Defense to get at least 2 turnovers in the first half. Hopefully one within KC’s first 20 scripted plays

  5. Ward needs to make a play today. Jimmy must be less tentative, and attack downfield. Don’t forget the running game. Defensively, less zone and more press coverage. Thomas/Buckner/Armstead need to have a coming out party today. Go Niners!

    1. I kept saying get rid of him but oh no, don’t listen to the 49er fan at all. Sell the team Jed York! Sell the team Jed York!

  6. Doing a great job of playing zone, get them in 3rd & 15 and call a blitz? Stupid call by Saleh. Got greedy and it burned him.

    1. Why don’t you admit you were wrong about our defense, Jack? Completely ignored our tackling skills. That’s not on Saleh and is our most glaring weakness. You’re clueless, and worse, an arrogant bastard.

      1. Not to mention Jack and Grant both thought one man Reuben Foster was going to make up for all the tackling woes. One man, seriously ?

      2. Fire Saleh, they should’ve done that last year. Good, ref caught that QB hit. 49ers playing like Raidas!

  7. Whatever happened to rollouts to help the QB buy some time to throw? They were doing those last year with JG.

  8. how many missed tackles on Watkins on that Jet sweep?????? at least 5!!!! should have been tackled for a loss

    1. He anticipated the ball going to the outside. It was disguised extremely well and Kelsey got lost in the crowd, by Reid’s design.

I’m curious how you keep ignoring the most glaring weakness on this team- the tackling.

Your arrogance really shows through. Stick with your script though.

    1. The DC is an assistant coach lol. He’s the best they can do and clearly out of his league. Go back to bed ?

    1. Well, you’re already off by a few points. Let’s see how well your prediction holds by the final whistle.

  9. We’ll can’t get mad cant say I’m surprised…
Only thing worrying me is that now this team looks worse than last year,no bueno

  10. Can’t tackle, dropped passes already, terrible game plan so far defensively, this is gonna get ugly!

  11. Andy Reid has a juggernaut for an offense. Most defenses are going to have a hard time defending Reid’s offense.

  12. That PI was a bit off in my mind. The defender is allowed to make a play on the ball when its in the air. Contact between to players going for the ball is incidental and he was clearly looking back at the ball. Completely bailed KC out.
Maybe I missed something, and it was still a bad play call in my mind.
But they missed one earlier on Sherman, so its a wash.

  13. Haven’t seen this rough a game from Staley in a long time. Couldn’t have predicted this with a usually very sturdy presence on the road.

  14. That looked like the same play they hit against Minnesota. Nice response by the O. Especially after being in 2nd & 26.

  15. The 49ers in three games have shown some of the worst tackling I have ever seen a team display. I wonder how much of this is players trying to adjust their angles to avoid the helmet leading penalties.

  16. I remember before the draft April 2017 I extolled the virtues of Patrick Mahomes and said he was the quarterback I really liked. It sucks that he has to prove this against the Niners.

  17. Saleh should be fired……the KC QB is making him look foolish….

Mahommes is just having fun out there…

    1. That’s because he looks like that freak Pete Davidson or whatever that gremlin is that is dating Areola Grande.

    1. Got any real insights, Jack? How’s the tackling? Just sing MEMEMEMEMEMEMEEEE and cover your ear holes, okay?

    1. He’s also working with a void of talent on that side of the ball. That said, Saleh is clearly not made for the job as they don’t seem to get any better.

  18. The Niners need another training camp. So fundamentally unprepared to compete. This is a stunning display of horrible football. It really may be time to fire Saleh, he has shown next to nothing in his time here.

    1. Wtf is wrong with you? You seriously have zero clue about this game. I’m sorry, I’m trying real hard not to sound sexist, but WHAT THE PHOK!!?!!

Jimmy G isn’t having a bad game at all and he’s keeping them somewhat in it. What more can he do?

I’m not a Jimmy G apologist by any means and the jury is still out, but he’s doing the best he can under the circumstances.

  19. This defense is a joke, but let’s not let the fact that they only have 7 points against the worst defense in the league go unnoticed.

  20. Lynch did a poor job resetting the talent on this team in the offseason. Kyle’s coaching looks bereft. What to do?

  21. Did anyone expect them to win in KC? It’s always been a house of horrors! Always will be! Having said that, they look pretty bad today, on both sides of ball. Take the expected loss and move on and hopefully they’ll improve. Hey, nice day outside. Go enjoy it! Im taking my grandkids out on the horses. I’ve seen enough!! :)

  22. Garoppolo is overrated and we take Thomas biggest bust in north America history, could of had mamomes, coulda ,woulda, shoulda. Story of my life.

  23. Reuben Foster missing tackles. Still think he’s the solution to tackling woes, JACK??!?!?? JACK???!?

    1. I apologize dee, I drank the coolaid too fastn could of had majors, but we take the stiff Thomas, I love razor and respect him but the scouts that thought Thomas was a better football player than Jamie’s, does not matter the position, total disgrace to football.

  24. Two more missed tackles on that TD and I don’t know what Ward was thinking…. How can Shanahan not fire Saleh now.

  25. The Chiefs could put 60 on us if they wanted. They could also start the second stringers after the half and cruise to victory.

    1. He might get fired on the way to the team bus the way this team is playing.
I’d kill to have fangio back.

  26. Some hypothetical fun….maybe Grant was right and we should have traded JG in the off season for 2 number 1 picks and signed Cousins. We could have then traded those 2 picks for K Mack.
Think this game could be different with better QB play and a real pass rush?

  27. Knockoff Seattle defeses don’t work.
    Saleh has got to go.
    This team has no heart.
And I don’t have the time for th second half to watch a bunch of quitters.
Hopefully I will miss a great comeback,
    Movie time!

    1. The O is still fighting but it appears the defensive players have no confidence in Saleh and his supposedly “simple” D. Its hard to tell the D like it is and expect them to respond after Saleh tries to be buddy buddy with them. He has to go. This is the worst looking D in the league and it’s not really close.

  28. Special Thanks to COFFEE FOR CLOSERS for jinxing Richard Sherman. Thanks you a-hole now he is injured just like you predicted.

  29. Matt says:
    September 22, 2018 at 6:09 pm
I suspect the Halftime score will be 35 to 6. This should be a complete thrashing by the Chiefs.

    This wasnt hard to predict…

  30. If they took Mohomes they would have had the money to sign Mack. I will post later the my perspective on the contrast between JG last season and his play now. Well it is what it is.

  31. This is the most pathetic half of football in 49ers history.
    Holy Smokes.
    We could have Drafted Mahomes
Rookie contract =other players like Mack
Or….Should have traded Jimmy G to Browns
    Signed Cousins
Drafted Nelson and Barkley and kept Brown
    Scored Mack
Either way this team is horrible
Shanahan and Lynch have not done very well in draft in early rounds.
KC and Reid this is their time.
I think the Patriots pass the torch and KC dominates the next 5 years winning 2-3 SB.

    1. The 49ers need this kind of beat down because it exposes how many holes they
need to fill. Early observations –
1 – The 49ers are terribly undisciplined on defense. The 49ers never had this issue
with Fangio and Harbaugh, were tackling, penalties, missed assignments were a
      big problem.
2 – Robert Saleh has a lot to prove if he wants to keep his job. His 4-3 scheme is
vanilla at best, he sends 4 rushers every time and can’t generate any pass rush
with his schemes. The undisciplined nature of his defense falls partly on him.
3- I’m still holding out hope for the 49ers offense. It’s clear Shanahan is a great
playcaller, Jimmy G will be an elite QB at some point, but it’s difficult with
injuries piling up. The 49ers still lack a true #1 receiver.
4- The fact that the 49ers passed on Jamal Adams to take Solomon Thomas
will haunt them for a LONG time.
5- The 49ers most pressing needs – Pass Rusher, Pass Rusher, Pass Rusher.

  32. Brutal half. Sherman and Breida helped off the field. Chiefs never punted or forced to kick a field goal.

I guess we can’t use Reid’s experience in the secondary.

  33. Seen this sort of beat down of Niners at Arrowhead before, e.g., Nolan’s team in 2005. Good clinic for the young Niners’ D. Also, clear reminder to F.O. about where the gaping holes are in D :)

  34. The band wagoners who want Mahomes are pure fools. Matt Castle esk hyperbowl. First Mahomes got to sit behind a game manager. Second he is playing behind an amazing line with a talent stacked team. Third he has one of the best QB whisperers in NFL history with Holmgren.
Put JG on that team and you’d all be saying the same about how we didnt get him…
The differenve in talent in NFL QBs is minute. At that level there just isnt a lot of seperation.

  35. don’t think there will be too many disagreements today with Grant’s grades……..plain enough to see what the real Niners are!!!!!!!

  36. Grant nailed it during the preseason when he pointed out the lack of execution in practice by the offense and the lack of discipline by the team as a whole.

  37. Back in 1993 the Philadelphia Eagles destroyed sf. 40 to 8 in the first week of October. That 49er team went on to win the Superbowl.
    This is 1 game. Relax.

    1. Thank you. This is a multi-year process. To expect a team so devoid of talent to be a playoff contender and elite in just over a year is ridiculous.

  38. where are the all the believers from last year?when we were on a hot streak…now you become fox analysts..stop it.believe or leave..that’s all the way from ricky mount,va..home of mr. board

  39. NFL is killing itself…Clay Matthews just called for roughing the passer on another perfect tackle again….wow..just horrible

    1. Yeah, in his case I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s back on the field in a minute or two. He has a little bit of a “soccer player” in him.

      1. You called it shoup “wind knocked out” back out next play. Thomas hurt, leave that crappy carcas in K.C.for a 7th pick!

    1. Great call ref. Refs better not give this to the 49ers as they just gave the game to the Dolphins. I hate the Bay Area regional games, they SUCK!

    1. You were losing the game by 17, be lucky you’re losing by 11. You should’ve had your a__ kicked by the Chiefs. Doesn’t matter if it was in KC or SF, Chiefs had this game. They needed a better QB.

        1. Raiders now 0 and 3, they’re eager for 0 and 16 it looks like. The 49ers and Raider D ranks 31 and 32.

  40. Make sure grade the referees also Grant. 2 times where this game was close the refs ruled in favor of the Chiefs.

    1. Yeah? I can name 5 instances where the refs were HELPING the 49ers and giving them the game, like that game last week vs. Det, refs CHEATED the Lions. 49ers should be 0 and 3 right now. If Jimmy G is out, that means you angered the football GODS with this kneel down BS.

  41. Jimmy G may be OUT, knee and maybe left shoulder. Beathard may be the QB. Good. Glad the refs are NOT helping the 49ers.

  42. Again…every three plays another player goes down I’ve never seen a team that gets so many injuries

  43. Official, Jimmy G, knee injury, season could be over for him. He could be joining McKinnon on IR. Saleh better be careful, they can flag him for unsporsmanship.

    1. Typical, Eddie, you lose the game, the refs cheated you, but when the refs help you beat Det, oh gee, not a big deal we CHEATED to win. Cheaters always pay a price. Signing McKinnon and Jimmy G to those contracts was TERRIBLE! Too much money, too little talent!

  44. For all you Grant haters, his assessment is correct, especially RZ offense. The injuries must have something to do with team culture. Some of these guys just give up too easily.

      1. Then they must also be ready to rebuild for another 3 to 4 years.
They will end up with no pass rush and a poor line again, the worst is the team can’t look at either Foster or Reuben as building blocks.
One thing I will say is they seriously need to look at getting a new conditioning coach, this team is completely snake bit when it comes to injuries.

        1. I agree they must continue to rebuild, and about the snake bites. Starting to remind me of the Chargers.

  45. Grant that was not pass interference even the refspecialist said it was a bogus call, be objective your hate for the team is ridiculous at times.

      1. That ref special and the announcers went out of their way to say it was not a pick as he has the right to get open ,sorry, I am a fan and being way to emotional. I appreciate your take even though I fight against you at times.

  46. Jimmy Garoppolo sustained knee injury. He just passed me in a cart on way to 49ers locker room. He was visibly upset. -Maiocco

    This was a catastrophic game

  47. With this OL, it was only time before JimmyG got hurt. Coaches keep lying to themselves that we are set at OG or DE. Yep, we are set with below average at both. Overall, we did little to improve this team at those positions through FA or draft. That is on Lynch. EVERYONE else saw it, and knew they would be a problem.

    1. That his injury occurred yards away from any OLineman probably didn’t occur to you.

Jfc, these game day blogs are the worst.

  48. Very lucky you lost by 11, you should’ve lost by 17 as my number, but a loss is a loss and maybe no Jimmy G for the season as he’s just a backup QB and always will be. Oh, and I do hope I get the 1:25 Fox game, don’t care if it’s Dallas vs Seattle, SICK of Crap quality games. 2020 can’t come soon enough to get rid of the Raiders so we can have 8 CBS games at least.

  49. The Jimmy G injury was a clear helmet to helmet and the defender lowered his head. Should have been a penalty and the defender ejected.

    1. Markle, you’re such a crybaby. you lost the game, live with it. You’ll be lucky you don’t go 0 and 4 to the AFC West, the way the raiders are playing, that game could be W for you.

      1. Wow, Cassie, you’re reaching as this is not the 80s 49ers anymore. We got NOTHING on the depth chart that warrants a PRO BOWL player. Get ready for some more losing.

          1. Cassie, I took my 32 mile bike ride yesterday, and I’m not riding in the heat wave. But there is a sale for chicken at your Raleys for 97 cents a pound, loser. Better get to Raleys while you can. Keep trying troll Cassie. You lost the game, ha ha. So Cassie, I get it, you’re Xena and I’m Ares the God of war, right?

  50. It’s not against the rules to hate the 49ers and question 49er fans’ sanity when you keep drinking the koolaid and it comes out as drano for your season to come to a crashing end. You lost the game, you stunk, your D is a joke, Saleh should’ve been fired, what a dumb name for a coach. 49ers offense is like a high school offense. Your Qb is a back up Qb and always will be until he lights it up with 300 yard games.

    1. He AVERAGED 300 yard games in his starts last year. “What a stupid name for a DC?” WHY? Because he’s Muslim? You’re clueless as far as football knowledge and pretty full of hate. You need help. Or STFU! You’re pick.

      1. Why don’t you try winning the game instead of sending out your back up QB in Jimmy G the 137 million dollar BUST? Why don’t you get real WRs and an Oline? Your defense is worse then a high school team. KT49er, you wouldn’t listen to facts, but here they are: Shanahan, wrong choice obviously. The GM, not impressed. McKinnon, another mistake. WR, not impressed. KT49er, I also don’t watch the NFL when they started the kneel down that Crapper started on the 49ers. KT, I’m a damn patriot that takes my US flag seriously. You obviously don’t even take your team seriously as it’s all about YOU.

  51. Hi Cassie Baalke, did you like that 49ers game this week? I thought last week was a total ripoff to help you beat the Lions that were beating up on you. Oh, I hope your Qb didn’t anger the football Gods by thinking he’s a starter and he blew his knee like McKinnon your other dream RB that lost his season. Hey, believe it or not, I don’t take pleasure in seeing you flush your season down the toilet, but until Jed York sells the God forsaken team, I root for your FAILURE and I’ll keep rooting for you to LOSE until Jed York gets the message to SELL THE FNG team. Sell the team, Jed York! Get out, Jed York! And tell Maiocco to quit SUCKING Up to the team. They’re horrible. NOTHING is impressive on this team. You’re not even CLOSE to a superbowl or a playoff! A team like the Packers has a BETTER CHANCE then YOU”D ever have. Oh yeah, and I earn 15 a week at my job, which is not the following in cleaning toilets, flipping tacos, frying fish, working on a boat, and whatever else you want to crack a guess at Cassie, now go feed your Godzilla monster loser. Chiefs BABY! And I don’t cry for JImmy G your backup QB either. I hope he’s DONE! He’s a PHONY!

      1. Cassie, I don’t even care about the NFL. I’m like Vince McMahon as I take pleasure seeing you FAIL and you got to resort to teasing. Cassie, I’ve been kicked off of countless 49er forums. It doesn’t bother me a bit. You got NOTHING. you lost, HA HA. You lost your QB, HA HA HA! You lost your RB McKinnon, HA HA HA HA. Remember that, Cassie, I got scorched Earth on you as I watch the state burn. maybe I’ll be lucky and the fire gets your wire and we don’t hear from you.

  52. This was a horrible game for the 49ers. Started off with way too many concentration drops, missed tackles and penalties that put them in a huge hole they could never get out of. All of these things are mental, and have plagued them throughout the previous weeks and last year too. All of these things are coachable… but aren’t getting fixed. It is a real concern at this point.

Finished the day off with what looks a likely season ender to JG. Likely a season ender for the 49ers too. Horrible.

    1. No, it’s a great loss for that means we’ll find a QB in the draft as that should’ve been the ORIGINAL PLAN instead of signing the BACKUP. We could’ve had Kirk Cousins, now we got NOOOOOOBODY!

    1. Yeah, Wanna, I really feel bad for them for they drink the koolaid and act like high school fans, and the moment their high school loses a couple of games and lost their key player, they take their koolaid and GO HOME for another year of FALSE SUPERBOWL. I’m sure they’re going to blame Donald Trump for taking out Jimmy G and blowing the game to KC.

  53. I hear Fox is getting a lot of tweets for cutting out the Falcons and Saints game that NOBODY got to watch.

    1. It certainly feels like it.
      – A ton of injuries
      – Penalties and mental errors galore
      – Constant 3rd and long conversions
      – Losing the Franchise
the 49ers must feel like the ant under the microscope

  54. I wonder if someone will ask Shanahan if he believes they did enough to protect Jimmy in the offseason? Or if in retrospect he would have done more to shore up the oline.

    1. I think Jimmy holds the ball too long, and makes poor decisions. Like not going out of bounds, and lowering his shoulder….

      1. “I think Jimmy holds the ball too long, and makes poor decisions.”

Oh how the worm turns for Jimmy. Last year the exact opposite was all we heard.

This injury really stinks and was completely avoidable.

        1. It looked like his knee buckled when he planted. Not sure how you avoid the freak non- contact injury. By not playing, I guess.

            1. and it’s possible on the next play he plants for the throw and pops it then. Admit it Hammer, it wa sa freak injury.

              1. And it’s also possible that on the next play he throws a touchdown, or perhaps a monkey falls out of the sky.

Take the ball and go out of bounds. It’s not like he was going to score a TD or tie the game up at that point.

You want to say it was a freak thing. Sure. It was also completely avoidable.

          1. But they gained so much confidence and learned how to win. We’ll see how that translates over the next 14 weeks.

      2. Wow, talk about an overreaction to two games. JG looked pretty good today. As for holding the ball too long, nobody would have accused him of that before last week. What he looked like this year was a talented QB that is still learning as he has only started 10 games.

JG is the future of the franchise, and that hasn’t changed.

    2. The injury had nothing to do with the OL and was a non-contact injury. Regardless, 90% of the sacks he’s taken is on him honestly. I wonder if someone will start asking Shanahan for his thoughts on Saleh and the Jim O’Neil-like D. Their performance on that side is simply unacceptable.

      1. Yes, but Jimmy has to has to flee the pocket way to often. I know it’s a freak play, but part of the reason he has to flee is due to the poor play.

        1. Jimmy has not been fleeing the pocket at all. That is why he was taking all those sacks. The 49er fans were asking for a stay in the pocket QB well the last three games they have had one. You can stay and be effective the pocket only as long as it stays a pocket. When the protection breaks down you either get rid of the ball quickly or you move outside the pocket. Jimmy has been doing neither lately.

I am not going to run down Jimmy, because ultimately for this offense you still want a pocket QB, but the 49er fans never really appreciated what Kaep brought to the offense with the 49er O-line being what it was. Playing hyper careful the entire first part of the season, it is interesting that the one time when Jimmy should have been careful and just run out of bounds is when he gets injured.

          1. You can’t just stand in the pocket and expect the offensive lineman to block all day long unless it’s the 49ers pass rush. That explains Jimmy’s problem. He’s used to having all day in practice….

    1. Saw Shanny slam his playbook clipboard down on sidelines, after that pi on juice that essentially ended the game. I was hoping it was because of the poor call in a pivotal moment, but had a feeling the Niners Dr. had just told him torn Acl. I’d bet on the latter……
Our season is essentially over unless A. they trade for Foles or B. They give #7 a call.

  55. What a great day. Rams will probably take the division easily. 49ers fight for last place again. Jed York, please sell the 49ers.

  56. Interesting that Darren 5000 has been invisible until things started to go really bad for the 49ers. Kind of shows were his head is at. Now he has all sorts of negative things to dwell on.

    1. The placement of Darren5000’s head has been clear for quite a long time.
Surprised he’s been able to breath.

    2. willtalk, tell me where the hope was for the season? Mighty Shanahan, the new GM? Those 2 are puppets. They don’t know what they’re doing. Jimmy G, priced too much, he’s a backup until he proves he’s not, but he’s the bicycle with the training wheels that now just blew out. McKinnon, Hyde’s replacement? Solomon, Foster, they’re not the right talent at all. Garcon, too old. Kittle, not one I would go to.

Why I don’t watch the 49ers: too many 3 and outs, let downs by the starting QB, bad defense overall, bad talent, and the kneel down at the national anthem. Has Kyle done away with the kneel downs?

The 49ers had talent in the past and Eddie D. Jed York is a KNOW NOTHING and the 49ers are a DO NOTHING and until Jed York sells the team, like the SF Giants were sold, like the GS Warriors were sold, like both of them can now hold championships, the 49ers are going NOWHERE each year. Jed York, sell the team!

    1. I seriously wish Cassie and all you other liberal Press Democrat 49er fools for fans would stop drinking the koolaid each year and stop relying on the liberals you vote for. Jed York should sell the team, true or false. Jimmy G is a backup Qb, true or false? Answer or F Off. Remember, under .500, no playoffs, no Superbowl, I’m always going to be here. I used to root for the 49ers, but Jed York and his family stole the team, gave us bad talent, and a QB that’s like JT O Sullivan, now how can you fans NOT compare Jimmy G to JT O Sullivan that held the ball and gave the game away, huh? 49er days go back to Montana, Solomon, Rice, Russ Francis, Fred Dean, Randy Cross, those were the icons. The 49ers might have one player in Staley, but his time is coming to an end. Remember 49er fans, your liberalism is a mental disorder as I saw this train wreck coming. You priced too much for Jimmy G before he even played a full season, same with McKinnon. you should’ve drafted the replacement qb THAT WAS out there and the replacement RB, you did neither, now you reap what you sow. Cassie, you can say whatever you want. Now go put on your training bra and plug in your Madden 19 to get your 49er dream season loser girl. I bet you sleep with your father each night too.

  57. Niners keep shooting themselves in the foot. Saleh exposed his weaknesses, and the Niners were not only executed, they were eviscerated on defense.
    .
The loss of JG cannot be over stated. Niners now may struggle to win 6 games.
    .
I felt like Andy Reid read my post, and did every one of my suggestions to the Niners. They varied the snap count, and drew the Niners off sides multiple times. KC was unpredictable and deceptive. They kept the Niners on their heels. Mahomes got the ball into the hands of his playmakers.
    .
Unlike others, who display schadenfreude about this loss, I still want the Niners to win. They cannot go into the Charger game with CJB as the starter, and expect to win. Thankfully the Niners did one of my suggestions. They took a page out of the Bill Walsh playbook, and eventually started rookie DBs.
    .
It was heartening to see JG roll out, and hit players on the run. Now that they lost him for the year, they should give Kaep a tryout.
    .
Maybe this debacle will finally convince KS to hire an OC. An OC may help the Niner offense become more focused and disciplined. An OC may help reduce the amount of penalties. Niner players can improve, but the coaches need to improve, too.

    1. So Seb wants the 49ers to keep taking a knee and hating our flag, country, and Donald Trump. Hey, maybe Donald Trump caused the injury to Jimmy G.

      1. Trump may want to wrap himself in the flag, and pretend to be patriotic, but a true patriot honors an American hero by flying the flag at half staff. A true patriot does not diss a Gold Star Mother and make a Gold Star widow cry.
        .
Trump himself does not understand what the protesting is all about. Kaep is not denigrating the flag, he is protesting against police brutality. He is kneeling, which a sign of respect, and Kaep is silently and non violently exercising his First Amendment right. Kaep is not pretending that nothing is wrong. He is using the symbolism of the flag to cry out a warning that America is in danger of losing its soul.
        .
Trump did not cause the injury to JG. He has caused irreparable damage to the Presidency by giving aid and comfort to an avowed enemy, by licking Putin’s arse. He accepted Russian aid in interfering in our elections, and sold missiles to a country to obstruct an investigation. Glad Cohen is spilling his guts. Manafort can connect Trump to the Trump Tower meeting, which should invalidate his electoral college victory.

        1. Since all NFL coaches read your posts and take your suggestions maybe you should make Mueller aware of your insights….
You can do some good for the country!

  58. Bummer.

Consolation: We now know for sure what the season is about: rebuilding. Hoping Jimmy heals 100%.

    Also,
    The frequency of flags thrown has taken the joy out of watching NFL football;
There is a very good chance that what you are seeing happen on TV will not “officially” count. No immediacy of result.
