49ers’ competition at right guard almost closed

SANTA CLARA — After sifting through right guards all offseason, the 49ers finally seem to have the right person.

Mike Person.

“It’s his job to lose right now,” head coach Kyle Shanahan said Tuesday evening during his press conference in the team’s auditorium. “Josh Garnett could beat him out, but Person has been the most consistent since Day 1. He has had a real good camp. We’ll see what happens these last few days.”

Person wasn’t a person of interest until recently.

When training camp started, the competition for the right-guard spot was supposed to be a two-man race between Joshua Garnett and Jonathan Cooper, two injury-prone former first-round draft picks. Both were coming off knee surgeries.

  1. My Personal assessment, Person is imPersonating a guard, when he is really a center.
    .
Garnett will be the starter by week 4.

  2. Looking forward to the mass release of players across the league–and what that could mean for picking up a player or two.

  3. He was a Person of interest, but it seems you just can’t beat a Person that doesn’t give up. Personally, I believe Garnett and/or Cooper will eventually overtake him. It’s nothing Personal, just business….

    1. @razor

person to person you say alot of B.S……no different from Seb..

      Razoreater says:

Good thing Super Duper Johnny Cooper is ready to go, because I do not see Garnett Rising From Ruins

Be nice if we could unload Garnett to the Broncos for a 6th.

      After 1 preseason game….

I believe Garnett and/or Cooper will eventually overtake him.

        1. You like Hillary and I like Trump. You like potato and I like potahto. You like tomato and I like tomahto. Potato, potahto, tomato, tomahto. Let’s call the whole thing off….

            1. I hope these crass insults are cleaned up, like I saw of a different one.
              .
We are all better than this, I hope.

      1. A Person who never made a mistake never tried anything new, and it’s only those who do nothing that make no mistakes….

        1. All good jokes and good for a laugh or two. But the only way to truthfully tell if KS in particular, and the 49ers in general, are serious about rebuilding is to look carefully at the final 53 and see where that good old “competition” Kyle talks about all the time will come from. To me it doesn’t matter if Person or the Man on the Moon starts week one if there is really no competition for the position. Unfortunately that requires that most of those who frequently post here have some patience. BTW from the title of Grant’s article you can see that he thinks the competition is almost closed. I sure hope he’s wrong about that.

  4. The run blocking against the Colts was much improved to say the least. It seemed like the Colts defensive alignment played into the 49ers strengths though. When the defensive alignment has a nose tackle lined head up or slightly shaded to either A gap on Richburg the 49ers really struggle in the run game. Richburg gets blown back and the guards don’t seem great at getting reach blocks. Richburg and the guards are good at combo blocks when the DL is head up on the guard or shaded more to the guard than the center in the A gap but as soon as Richburg has to go 1v1 and the guards have to reach then the running game goes to $h*t. The Colts basically let Richburg off the hook on most 1v1’s. I may be wrong on this but I’m sure one of you guys who are former O-lineman will correct me.

    1. Actually, many of us are former Pro Bowl caliber players, with representation from all position groups. Not only that, some have had great success as head coaches, coordinators, assistants, and scouts at the pro level–oddly, none have known failure. At least two, possibly three among us have quality general manager time as well.

      Can’t wait for Thursday!

  5. Scarnecchia cites “dynamic skills” and a willingness to listen to coaching about how to correct mistakes as the genesis for Brown’s hold on the LT position.

    Brett Hundley is a Seahawk.

    Fusco wins the RG job.

    1. Fusco can’t be as bad as Grant made him out be, if he can get the starting job with two different teams.

    2. As long as he listens to the team dietician and stays healthy, Brown will get a reasonable extension with the Pats. But Bellichick will not give him top 5 tackle money. Niners weren’t going to give him the extension because of poor scheme fit and wanted to proceed quickly with the rebuild — so the trade made sense.

  6. Thoughts about Person from a guy who admits to knowing nothing about football technique:

Is he really just an also-ran, or have the Niners found a guy who’s starting to bloom in the guard position?

From what I’ve read about him, his more natural position is guard as opposed to center, the position for which he’s drawn criticism over the years. Now he’s starting at guard for the first time. Grant quoted him as saying, “Throughout the years, I have played guard a little bit. It has been nice getting a lot of reps this camp and getting more comfortable there. Guard and center, people think they’re pretty similar but they’re a lot different. It’s a lot more physical at guard than at center.”

So he’s getting used to the position, apparently for the first time in his NFL career, and doing respectably, getting good grades in his pass-blocking. This is not chopped liver imo. I’m thinking that with continued reps everything about his play will improve, including his run-blocking (I’m not even sure it’s even an issue now) because for a guard he’s fast and seems suited for the OZ.

I was also struck by these comments of his, also in Grant’s article, “I’m more comfortable with how I play. If you would have talked to me when I was younger, I would have been worried about making the slightest mistake. Now, it’s all about cutting loose and playing ball. I wish I would have learned that earlier in my career.”

There’s talk here of Garnett supplanting Person over time, but I wonder about that. Garnett has trouble anchoring. His body might be too fragile for NFL guard play. And he’s been inconsistent, as opposed to Person, who’s a steady Eddie. I have to admit I’m rooting for this guy.

    1. If I am not wrong, Kyle made is clear why Person is ahead of Garnett — play-to-play consistency. This quality is found more in vets and less in inexperienced players like Garnett. If the latter can stay healthy, I can see him successfully challenging Persons by bye week or earlier.

      1. Garnett had a good game last Saturday. He needs to get his legs back in playing condition.

Person has been steady and consistent throughout TC with an important caveat – he’s had no competition!
Both Garnett and Cooper have been absent, so yes, Person wins by defeat.

Garnett will supplant Person by game 3-4 when the reality sets in that there is a reason why Person has bounce around the league.

      2. The difference I have with you here, Mood, is that Garnett has more experience at the position than Person does. I think it’s impressive that Person’s that consistent. He’s proven to be a smart and good athlete, thus his versatility. Since he’s relatively new at the position, it’s reasonable to believe he’ll get better at it. We shouldn’t forget that before the Indy game many here, myself included, thought Garnett was on his way off the roster and hoped we could get something for him before he had to be cut. I’m not saying he won’t eventually win the position — that would be foolish — but unless he’s undergone some radical transformation that sticks, I think Person has the better chance. One thing, though: Garnett was seriously affected by the loss of his sister, which could have been impacting his play, and is possibly now stepping up because he realizes he has to. No knock on him. It was a terrible, terrible tragedy.

      1. Razor …

didn’t you call him that way back when he was a Niner ?

        ( I miss all your crazy.. (but mostly fitting ) .. nick-names
for the players … any chance you’ll be resurrecting
that great tradition .. any time soon ..? )

        1. Yea, thanks MWNiner! If Hikutini would have made that catch, we could have nick-named him Houdini.

  7. Jets got a 3rd from the Saints for Teddy B. That’s a great return for a guy anybody could have signed this past offseason.

    1. Agreed. I’d very much like to learn exactly how much the Jets ended up paying TB before trading him to get an idea of how much they just paid for that 3rd round pick. The base value of his one year deal was $5m but I don’t know how much of that he earned before shipping out.

If the Saints aren’t able to lock down Teddy for at least another year then it wont be such a great deal for New Orleans but if they do then both teams end up doing pretty well on the deal. The Jets buy a 3rd round pick for cents on the dollar and the Saints could potentially have their replacement for Brees and they only had to give up a 3rd round pick to get him.

That’s just great value all around. :)

    2. Saints had Tom Savage as the backup, so Bridgewater is a huge upgrade.
      .
      Breeze cannot play forever.

  8. From nfl.com….Cut candidates. Old 9er QBs…

“Matt Barkley, QB, Cincinnati Bengals: Jeff Driskel [remember him?] appears to be the leader in the clubhouse to be Andy Dalton’s backup, for those scoring at home.”

    1. What could we expect if we surrounded Grant with sports media legends–Peter King, Bob Costas, Judy Battista, Dan Patrick, etc., etc.?

        1. If ever there was a scripted interview, this wins out.
Kinda like the 49ers vs Ravens Superbowl.
And I’ll leave it at that.

        2. So……………… Grant could be on the receiving end (during interviews) with the likes of Reuben Foster, Bill Romanowski, and scores of others.

          I’d pay to see that.

  9. So……………… Grant could be on the receiving end (during interviews) with the likes of Reuben Foster, Bill Romanowski, and scores of others.

    I’d pay to see that.

  10. Hundley to the Seahawks? Wow, they must be desperate.
    .
    Kizer won the backup competition.
    .
    Bridgewater landed well……

      1. Speaking of Kaep, He would have been a way better backup than Hundley, but Pete Carroll considers Kaep to be a starting QB. Kaep would be a better backup QB than Kizer. I am sure Aaron Rodgers would acknowledge Kaep’s skills since Kaep destroyed them, setting a record, running for 181 yards, in that playoff game.
        .
Kaep would be way better than Josh Allen, but Buffalo is content to lose rather than sign Kaep.
        .
Looks like the blackballing is still enforced, but I hear a storm is coming.

          1. Capitalization and punctuation would make your post look like some one cared what he wrote, but the argument is specious. That is because Pete Carroll, a SB winning HC, deemed Kaep to be starter material. He should know, because he coached against Kaep for years.
            .
Guess you think you are smarter than Pete Carroll.

            1. That is because Pete Carroll, a SB winning HC, deemed Kaep to be starter material.

And yet he chose Austin Davis to be his backup? Interesting?

I Don’t disagree that Kaep is a starting caliber qb, but the problem is that he is a lower level starting caliber qb that coordinators have the change their entire scheme for. So teams will be looking to replace him for someone more conventional from the jump, will change their scheme for him, and ask 10 other starters to adjust to him. Which alone will keep him off a lot of rosters and coaches and GM’s are a conservative lot. Then when teams add the distraction part, he’s likely ruled out for most.

Honestly, If I was a playoff level nfl team and my starter went down for the season, I would bring him in to start if I didn’t like my backup but I wouldn’t have him as a backup to start the season with.

        1. But Sebbie…. You said you didn’t mind (really…..):

If Hoyer can play like that, I will not mind if Kaep is blackballed.

          1. Cassie, you are being repetitive. I will reiterate that I started that statement with IF.
            .
IF Hoyer could play like that. Obviously, he cannot, and his last game was more proof. Pats must be lighting more candles for Tom Brady’s health, because if he is injured, Hoyer will pull another Gabbert, and bench himself.
            .
I said that I would not mind if Kaep is blackballed , in the context of being resigned that when the president calls him an SOB and tells him he is fired, the owners of the league will kow tow to a bully. I also just want the Niners to win games, so I even rooted for Gabbert, although I knew he was, and is, far inferior to Kaep.
            .
Last season, teams like the Texans, Green Bay, Miami, Denver, and Arizona all preferred to lose without Kaep, rather than win with him. Their fear of the political consequences made them roll over and lift their leg like a dog. They all missed the playoffs, too.
            .
When Watson went down, Savage savaged the team. When Rodgers went down, Hundley looked lost. Miami lost Tannehill, and imploded. Now they have Osweiler backing up a gimpy QB. Denver has a SB quality defense, but thought Siemian was the answer. Too bad he was as bad as Osweiler, and Paxton Lynch will soon be cut. Arizona was a hoot. Arians tried to declare that Gabbert was the next best thing to sliced bread, and looked the fool. No wonder he retired, after such a clueless assessment. Their defense could have gotten them into the playoffs with only decent QB play, but Gabbert pulled another Gabbert, and benched himself.
            .
In all those cases, the teams should flipped off the orange glow, and declared that they would start the devil himself, if he would help them to win. Instead, they took the cowardly road, with expected results. I certainly do not think I am more powerful than the president of the United States, so I resigned myself to accepting the blatant and unfair blackballing of a player who is just protesting against police brutality. Thankfully, Kaep’s protest has finally broken that thin blue line, and a policeman was finally held accountable for murdering an unarmed black teenager.
            .
To those who state that Kaep is not a good QB, Prime himself declared that a QB is only as good as the players around him. Too bad Baalke gutted the team, getting rid of talent and leadership. Iupati, Gore, Crab and others have moved on and done well. Cowboy and Willis retired, and Borland left the game young and healthy. Kaep was left with Devey and Pears, who acted like turnstiles. Kaep could not throw the ball, and catch it too, so I am glad Stone Hands was traded away. Kaep had a 90.7 QBR, even with the drek around him, so all he needed was a chance to play, but the hate against him was too entrenched.
            .
Yes, Kaep is being blackballed, and I do not mind that he is, because Kaep, like other brave protesters, knew that he would suffer the consequences for his actions. He accepted his fate because he was striving to achieve social justice. He under estimated the vehemence of the backlash, but his heart is pure, and history will not be kind to his detractors. I admire him even more for taking a principled stand, and goodness will triumph over hate.
            .
It is so ironic that Kaep is being blackballed for supposedly disrespecting the flag and the military, when the Con drapes himself in the flag, but refused to lower the flag to half staff until forced to, because we are all mourning the death of John McCain, a true national hero. Kaep did not insult a Gold Star mother, and he was not cruel and insensitive to a grieving Gold Star widow, making her cry.

            1. Thanks, Cassie, for bringing up Kaep again. It is almost like you are trolling me.
              .
I could talk all day about Kaep, but have refrained, because so many want to move on. Kaep and his lawsuit are still percolating through the system, so he is still relevant.
              .
Talking about the team and this last contest with the Chargers should be our first priority, but you keep dredging up the past. Bless your heart.
              .
These final cuts will be painful, and I expect a few surprises. All these last minute trades give me hope. Maybe the Niners will trade away Earl Mitchell, since DJ Jones seems poised to start. Or at least deserves to start. Washington just lost their NT……

              1. It’s rather clear Sebbie…

If Hoyer can play like that, I will not mind if Kaep is blackballed.

Hoyer played very well on August 27, 2017. It was not a matter of IF. Own it Sebbie, own it…

              2. He played well for a nanosecond, and reverted to form. He could never play like that again, and this last preseason game he played, he threw the ball out of bounds on 4th down.

              3. Cassie, since your fixation on Kaep is almost as strong as it is on me, I have great news.
                .
Kaep’s collusion case was found to have merit, so it will proceed, hopefully expeditiously. Guess they found written proof, so the NFL and Goodell are sweating silver bullets.

        2. whats Caroll going to say? Kap has no business in the NFl?
Didn’t Caroll have kneelers on his team? One particular one who lied about cops harassing him for no reason?
Yeah Seattle blackballed him. Get serious!

How do we know they liked him and contract talks started and Kap wanted more then he’s worth?
He is the guy who turned down Denver right after they won a Super Bowl! But hey. He was blackballed.

  11. Thinking about the upcoming game, I wonder who the Chargers will play instead of Bosa, Mebane and Ingram.
    .
One player I am interested in is Uchenna Nwosu. I had selected him in a couple of my mocks.
    .
KS may have penciled in Person, but he also has an eraser. I just think Garnett has more talent, especially in the run game.

  12. Looking forward to continued improvement in Garnett’s game tomorrow. David Lombardi at The Athletic wrote:
“Garnett has strained away over the past year, working not only to rehabilitate from a knee surgery that shelved him for all of 2017, but also to re-tailor his game for coach Kyle Shanahan’s outside zone blocking approach, which demands unusual dexterity from its linemen.
When the 49ers drafted him in 2016, Garnett was the typical 325-pound mauler. His college film from Stanford features several smaller opponents being thrown around like rag dolls.
But the NFL game, and especially Shanahan’s style of it, required Garnett to become quicker. The 49ers still want him to maul defenders — this is not a finesse scheme by any stretch of the imagination — but play design now dictates that the savagery happen further from the point of snap, in open spaces that are impossible for a 325-pounder to consistently reach.
“We may be running outside zone, but we’re still coming downhill,” Garnett said. “A lot of people think because it’s outside zone, we’re not hitting and just running sideline-to-sideline, which couldn’t be further from the truth. This offense, you utilize the outside zone and the power football that I’d already done when I came into the league. It’s about finding the perfect balance and mix.”
In striving for the right combination on an individual level, Garnett radically transformed his eating lifestyle about a year ago (this is a guy who, as a college freshman, once ate seven pieces of 24-ounce prime rib at the Beef Bowl prior to the Rose Bowl). Garnett could no longer pounce on the sandwiches and donuts that rookies customarily order into the locker room for the 49ers roster on travel days. The standard buffet line at the team cafeteria was also mostly off limits, replaced by meals that 49ers nutritionist Jordan Mazur specially customized.
As a result, Garnett dropped 20 pounds (he now weighs 305) and significantly slashed his body fat percentage, even while rehabbing from knee surgery. Garnett also saw big surges in flexibility and strength, improvements that he credits to 49ers director of functional performance Elliott Williams, who has implemented power-based Egoscue yoga to the team’s exercise regimen.
“I’m feeling really bendy now,” Garnett said. “I can bend so much further. I’m stronger in the glutes and hip, but just as powerful as before. My body has changed dramatically, and I’m feeling a lot more comfortable in the offense.” “

    1. Great read. Thanks Mood.

Like Many others I think he will eventually win out the position. Person is not a bad player but he is a guy that has basically maxed out his potential while Garnett has the ability to be so much more even if he was overdrafted.

    2. You’re welcome. I am getting hooked on Athletic’s Niners coverage: Barrow’s beat writing, Lombardi’s podcasts, and Ted Nguyen’s film breakdowns…

        1. Razor,

It doesn’t cost that much (5 bucks a month at it’s highest) and they offer 30 to 40% off deals all the time. I recommend it highly because it’s a way to get good content without ads and covers a pretty wide spectrum.

    3. Mood, thanks for the post.

Here’s what a devil’s advocate might say: Lombardi’s commentary sounds good, but note the sentence, “His college film from Stanford features several smaller opponents being thrown around like rag dolls.” Note the words “smaller opponents.”

I’m pulling for Garnett, but since he arrived here, he’s shown he’s had problems anchoring (Charles Haley’s issue). Remember Marcus Martin and his roller skates?

I look forward to seeing him tonight.

      1. Sure, here’s a little more from the podcast:
Garnett: “I’m continuing to work on technique, but at the end of the day I was known for being a finisher, So the technique might not always be perfect — the hands might not always be perfect — but at the end of the day I’m really trying to finish guys. And I kind of want that to be my calling card.”

    4. “I’m feeling really bendy now,”
      Garnett

      CODE for the Gumby Effect.
Actually, there’s no such thing as the Gumby effect, but I’m glad to hear Garnett is working hard to fit the mode that Shanahan requires for the position.

It seems as though Garnett is finally ready to make a strong challenge to overtake Person for the starting spot.
If Person can hold off Garnett he is the better fit for the position, but I still have a strong sense that JG will claim the position and hold it down for years to come.

      1. >I’m feeling really bendy now.<
Sounds like a line from one of Hunter Thompson’s works.

    5. I think you meant to say plagiarism b4ho, but it is clearly not plagiarism since Mood credited the person and site.

      1. Theft? I read all about Garnett resculpting his body during the OTAs. This is rehashed old news, which must be a trademark of the Atlantic.
        .
Eating steaks before a Bowl game? That is ancient history.

      2. Geez, is that any different then buying a newspaper and 20 different people read it, such as in a waiting room, airports, barbershops?

      3. Sorry dude, but the fact that he credited the writer and site from which the info came makes it not theft.

        1. Not that I really care about content being reposted, but you aren’t supposed to repost any copyrighted material without authorization from the source of the material.

          1. Yep. I assume it is in the terms of use you agree to when you sign up with the Athletic as well.

Crediting the writer does not make it ok to re-post an article behind a pay wall.

          2. Let me take the liberty to introduce Rocket and Scooter to Fair Use of Copyrighted Materials:
            https://fairuse.stanford.edu/overview/fair-use/what-is-fair-use/
My re-posting of limited excerpts of Lombardi’s much longer article for “commentary and criticism” purposes is presumed to be covered by Fair Use provision. I believe that this blog does qualify as a platform for “commentary and criticism”, some of which may include ad hominem attacks of the sanctimonious variety . Now if anyone accused this blog of being a platform for “consistently informed and thoughtful analysis”, I may have to re-think my approach.

          3. According to Scooter, I may have signed some stuff when I surrendered my credit card number to the Athletic. Since I do not recall any such signing — I better check if I may have signed away other stuff, e.g., my first-born, too…
Meanwhile, more from the horse’s mouth:

          6. I’m well aware of Fair use and It’s all in how you spin it. You claim it’s for criticism and commentary. Others could claim you are giving free access to those without an account to copyrighted material behind a pay wall.

          1. Rocket,
Intent and context does matter. My primary intent was to convey Garnett’s feelings about his preparedness as expressed in his interview to The Athletic in the context of the blog topic..

          2. Mood,

I get it and as mentioned multiple times I don’t care that you posted it. My original response was directed at mids belief that posting a persons name and where it came from actually meant anything.

The smug comment you made about fair use was unnecessary.

          3. Rocket and I are of the same thought on this one. If you want to post stuff from the athletic, post away. But I disagree with Mid’s comment.

          4. Disagree all you want Scooter; it isn’t theft. If it was, then there would be several of us on here that would have been in trouble with the law already over the use of comments from other sites.

          5. Whether it is theft or not has nothing to do with whether or not he quoted the author and publisher.

          6. Actually it does since the closest this would fall under is plagiarism, but providing the author and site negates that. It would be better if Mood could provide a link to the article, but based on what I know, the worst that Mood has done is violate the Terms of Service for The Athletic. If I am wrong about this, then that is fine because I do not mind being proven as such.

          7. This isn’t about plagiarism. Plagiarism is taking others work and presenting it as your own. Mood clearly is not doing that.

The argument of whether this is theft or not is not based on whether it is plagiarism. It is based on whether posting content that is meant to be pay to see for others to view for free is stealing. As to whether it is theft or not, I don’t know or care, but saying it is ok because he quoted the author and publisher doesn’t hold.

    1. I’d imagine he’d have no problem coming out of retirement if an opportunity popped up. Niners should bring him back.

        1. Yes. Now that Darnold is going to start on Week 1 for Jets, it is only a matter of time. Peer pressure.

          1. Mood,
            Thanks for the link.
Running the defense is quite a load to place on a 20 year old rookie, but Edmunds seems to be up to the challenge.

Like in Landry’ case, I will be watching Edmunds development from afar.

    1. Yes, preseason penalties know no bounds…9ers are in good company. Same with soft tissue injuries.

Accepting the take of one notable writer, you’d think the 9ers were leading the league in penalties and injuries–by a wide margin.

      Can’t wait for tonight.

  13. I am hoping Josh Allen, and Josh Rosen, both get the Aaron Rodgers treatment, instead of the Alex Smith treatment.
    .
They may be thrown to the wolves, but they would profit from sitting, studying, and getting stronger to withstand the hammer blows a QB must endure. JG also profited from watching TB.
    .
Guess Baker Mayfield will be starting, since Taylor is down. Hope he does not become another Brown’s statistic.
    .
Wonder if Darnold will start this season. He looked good in the preseason.

Cassie, you are being repetitive. I will reiterate that I started that statement with IF.

    It’s rather clear Sebbie…

If Hoyer can play like that, I will not mind if Kaep is blackballed.
Hoyer played very well on August 27, 2017. It was not a matter of IF. Own it Sebbie, own it…

Reply: Winning: Mike will be a better person for it; wish I could say the same of Seb, but his bar has been set gutter-low for years. I see the Niners crawling out of the gutter before Seb.

    1. Tommy Boy …

why do you repost a conversation between (obviously)
      two people … ??

      I mean … what’s in it for you …?

        1. I don’t remember how many times (last couple of years)
MidWestDynasty made me spray my monitor with coffee
after reading his posts … but I suspect he’s cut down
on his humorous posts because he’s hard at work ,,, studying ..

and while Razor, Cassie, and quite a few others, here
are always good for a laugh …
their humor is, for the most part … done with tongue firmly planted
in the cheek … and actually … funny …. !!

          it’s never done with ….“vindictiveness” ….

          Vindictiveness is NEVER funny !

          Get it ?

            1. Has anyone won anything aganisnt the NFL? The NFL is more powerful than Congress. In fact they might be Congress.

              1. There’s always a first time, Chris … always a first time ..
                And .. IF .. he’s successful … it’ll be called a
“landmark case” … as well as “setting a precedent”…
( I believe .. but check with JPN.. on that one )

“….. The NFL is more powerful than Congress. In fact they might be Congress….

                Oh… perish the thought ! …. ;-}

              2. I think he has zero chance only because of the ramifications if indeed the NFL colluded which to me is a crock. That would mean Goddell and the owners would have to eat a ton of humiliation and fines and since it’s inception, have they ever?

My point is if Kap was a good QB he might have something. But he was a one hit wonder and then faded cause he was a running QB.

It will get chalked up to no team wanted a one dimensional QB and one that would be a huge distraction.

  15. MW, Tyvm.
    .
Like Mueller, they not only have written proof, they have tapes.
    .
Goodell is quaking in his boots. This will void the CBA, and the owners will lose power because they had an unfair advantage over the players. Now there may be significant aid for medical needs of its past warriors. Hope CTE studies are accelerated. Hope they design better protection in pads and helmets. Players will demand the owners stop lining their pockets on the backs of the players.
    .
At the least, Goodell will lose his arbitrary dictatorial powers, but he may be jettisoned, and HOF legend installed.
