This is the live blog for the San Francisco 49ers (7-6) week 15 matchup with the Atlanta Falcons from Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara.
3:54 49ers win 31-13. Will be back with you soon.
3:44 The 49ers defense gets another stop. Atlanta has come away with 0 points on three trips deep into the red zone today. Twice being turned away on the 1. 49ers 31 Falcons 13
3:34 The 49ers special team is an adventure. Wishnowsky hits his best punt of the day, 60-yards, and Atlanta takes it back 23-yards into San Francisco territory.
3:31 Tartt re-enters the game after missing two plays, his left ankle taped. Jimmie Ward drops Cordarrelle Patterson for no gain on 4th and 1. That’s the second time Atlanta has been inside the 49ers red zone today and come away empty.
3:27 Kyle Pitts beats Ambry Thomas deep down the right sideline for a gain of 49-yards and Jaquiski Tartt is down with an injury after helping make the tackle.
San Francisco is now without Tartt and Hufanga. Jarrod Wilson was called up from the practice squad on Saturday and is now in the game.
3:20 49ers defense forces a three and out. This game is over. Kyle Shanahan should get Trey Lance some snaps here.
3:13 Jimmy Garoppolo currently has only three incompletions today. One of them was tipped and two others were dropped by Jennings.
3:09 The 49ers are blowing this one wide open. Another 75-yard drive for a touchdown. Jeff Wilson Jr and JaMycal Hasty team up to gain 50 yards on that possession, and Garoppolo caps it off with a 5-yard strike to Jauan Jennings for the touchdown. 49ers 31 Falcons 13
3:07 Update on Nick Bosa: He’s been cleared and will return.
3:03 Nick Bosa is being evaluated for a head injury.
3:01 On the first play with Bosa out, Ryans finds Olamide Zaccheaus for a gain of 49 yards. On third and goal Kentavius Street hits Ryan as he’s throwing to force an incompletion. Good thing. The receiver was wide open in the endzone. Atlanta settles for a field goal. 49ers 24 Falcons 13
2:59 Nick Bosa is on the sideline after getting dinged while making a tackle of Patterson for a loss of 1.
2:53 Talanoa Hufanga is out for the game with a knee injury.
2:50 That was quick. Garoppolo hits Kittle for 13, then Samuel for 21 to set up a 5-yard touchdown run by Jeff Wilson Jr. San Francisco has taken control of this one. 49ers 24 Falcons 10
2:47 Doesn’t matter. Samson Ebukam sacks Ryan on first down and then Nick Bosa gets to Ryan on third down and forces a fumble as he takes the quarterback down. Fred Warner comes up with the recovery at the Falcons 38.
2:44 The answer is no. Mitch Wishnowsky can only get the kick to the 7 and Atlanta returns it 33 yards to the 49ers 40.
2:42 Atlanta will get the ball to start the second half. Their two scoring drives today started at the 49ers 49 and at their own 35. Can the 49ers special teams come up with a stop?
2:29 Halftime 49ers 17 Falcons 10
2:23 Deebo Samuel bookends another 49ers scoring drive. Garoppolo found Samuel for 30 yards on the first play and then Samuel finishes the drive off with a 10-yard touchdown run.
That’s three straight drives of 75 or more yards for the offense.
49ers 17 Falcons 10
2:12 Arden Key is called for roughing the passer on a 3rd down sack of Matt Ryan. That was a brutal call. There’s nothing Key could have done differently to not land on the quarterback.
The penalty gives Atlanta the ball on the 15, and after a false start penalty Matt Ryan finds Russell Gage for a 20-yard touchdown over Ambry Thomas. 49ers 10 Falcons 10
2:02 49ers offense opens up with a big play as Garoppolo hits Aiyuk on a quick slant and the receiver takes it for a 36-yard gain. Jeff Wilson picks up 17 yards around the right side on the next play.
After Garoppolo finds George Kittle for a gain of 8, Kyle Juszczyk takes a quick handoff and goes in for a 7-yard touchdown run. 49ers 10 Falcons 3
The 49ers offense with back-to-back nice drives after the initial three and out.
1:49 Arden Key comes up with the sack to end the Atlanta possession. Ambry Thomas with terrific coverage on the play forced Ryan to hold on to the ball, allowing Key to get home.
1:40 49ers offense drives 79 yards but has to settle for a field goal. On 3rd and 8 from the Atlanta 15, Dontae Fowler came off the edge unblocked and Garoppolo had no choice but to get the ball out quick to JaMycal Hasty who was able to pick up only 3 yards.
1:31 The 49ers special teams cannot get out of its own way. This time Hasty lets the ball bounce, loses the handle and it goes out at the 9.
1:30 The 49ers are matching up Jimmie Ward on Kyle Pitts in nickel situations. Falcons offense is able to pick up a first down but no more and settles for a field goal. Falcons 3 49ers 0
Atlanta has only three really threats: Cordarrelle Patterson, Kyle Pitts and Russell Gage. On that series it looked like Pitts didn’t know where to line up multiple times, and cost Atlanta a timeout.
1:19 Jauan Jennings drops a pass over the middle on second down in the middle of the field leaving the offense with 3rd and 8. Garoppolo is forced to check down to Kyle Juszczyk and he comes up short. Quick three and out.
1:16 Falcons looked to have scored a touchdown, but Cordarrelle Patterson was ruled short of the goalline. The 49ers defense then holds with a terrific goal line stand.
On 4th and goal, Atlanta went with an empty backfield and Matt Ryan’s pass to Kyle Pitts in the right flat was broken up by Jaquiski Tartt.
Offense will take over at the 1.
1:05 JaMycal Hasty fumbles the opening kickoff. Atlanta ball on the 49ers 12. 49ers cannot get their special teams in order.
1:03 Atlanta wins the toss and defers to the second half. San Francisco will be on offense to start the game.
12:45 Ambry Thomas will be making his second start of the year at cornerback in place of Emmanuel Moseley.
11:54 Falcons pass rusher Dante Fowler Jr is active. Fowler leads Atlanta’s defense with 4.5 sacks and was listed as questionable and had missed some practice time this week with a calf injury.
11:45 Inactive for San Francisco: RB Elijah Mitchell, LB Azeez Al-Shaair, LB Dre Greenlaw, DL Maurice Hurst, OL Colton McKivitz
Inactive for Atlanta: QB Josh Rosen, OL Josh Andrews, DL John Cominsky, DL Marlon Davidson, DL Jonathan Bullard
nice
Another AZ late season collapse? Niners still have a chance for the division. Win out, see what happens.
Great start guys. Special teams is an embarrassment.
Blank-en special teams😡😡😡
Another crappy punt, special teams is really giving it’s all today.
Wow, so many missed tackles. That was an issue last week too.
Did you know 49ers won in overtime ?
Millennium’s not happy unless there’s something to complain about. Even if there’s nothing to complain about.
Sore winner syndrome/Nothing is ever good enough
Kinda reminds me of 4900 reasons, never posts after a win. Some people are only happy when they are unhappy.
Well that’s the last time Hasty should be out for a kick return.
Mike Davis is a former 49er.
Baalke player. I never believed Trent was as bad as people said he was.
So Arden Key, you have to learn to defy the laws of physics.
Stupidest rule in the NFL.
Most ridiculous call. Reminds of the Brooks roughing passer versus Saints 5 or 6 years ago.
Jennings nice catch and run. Deebo TD
Thomas showing incremental improvement. At least he was facing the ball when he gave up that TD 😐. Then almost had a INT if he didn’t have the ball wrestled from him.
SPecial teams coverage sucks . 2 sacks and fumble bail us out. D is dominating.
Deebo , Kittle and Jeff Wilson big contributions on that drive. Jimmy 13/15 205 yards.
Imagine how good this team would be with NFL quality CBs.
That’s harsh…. “With improved play from their CBs”
We need starting quality. They are all second or third stringers.
More Wilson please.
Jennings is a solid WR3. TD. We ran all over them this last drive.
Jimmy 16/19 / 226/ 1 TD/ 0 INT
Reminder that the 49ers play Thursday @ Titans. Time to rest starters ? Maybe Lance gets some reps ?
Hammer, Thomas refuses to believe the game is over.
please get us some d backs in the off-season ours are horrible
Second non conversion on 4th. Niners D
#RestTheStarters
Nah. Not with this ST and Thomas on the back end, even a 3 score lead can evaporate quick.
Ok but I think now we can rest some of our guys.
Yeah now. Lol
What’s with our special teams? They’ve given up 5 long returns already.
“another goal line stand for San Francisco ” I love it.
