49ers injury report; Samuel out. Warner still has a chance

The 49ers wrapped up preparations for Sunday’s matchup against the Seattle Seahawks on Friday afternoon at team headquarters in Santa Clara.

After practice had completed head coach Kyle Shanahan provided an update on the team’s health. Wide receiver Deebo Samuel will be out with a groin strain. Samuel has been a dominant force over the last five weeks and the offense will need to look elsewhere for explosive plays.

Although originally thought to be out this week, linebacker Fred Warner was instead listed as doubtful. The 2020 All-Pro has been working hard on a side field, trying to convince trainers that he can go on Sunday and not miss the first game of his career. That he’s been able to get himself to this point shows just how important it is to be out on the field for Warner. The 49ers have yet to suit a player up on Sunday who was listed as doubtful on the Friday report, but in the words of Lloyd Christmas, “So you’re telling me there’s a chance!”

The 49er’s linebacking crew has been hit especially hard this week. In addition to Warner being listed as doubtful, Dre Greenlaw will not play due to a strained groin and Marcell Harris is listed as questionable after sustaining a concussion on Sunday against Minnesota.

Greenlaw will be joined on the sidelines this week by defensive lineman Maurice Hurst who is still dealing with a calf injury and running back Trey Sermon who is dealing with an ankle injury and will be missing a few weeks at least.

There was some positive news on the injury front. Running back JaMycal Hasty is set to return to the lineup after missing the last three weeks due to an ankle injury. Prior to the injury Hasty was seeing time primarily on third downs. It remains to be seen if he will be back in that role this week as Jeff Wilson Jr is now healthy.
