49ers v. Panthers live blog: Pregame

SAN FRANCISCO — This is the live blog for the pregame of the 49ers’ Week 10 game against the Panthers. I’ll update this frequently with information and analysis from the press box.

11:20 As I wrote on Friday, the keys to the game are:

1. The 49ers are facing a very good defense, so keep the exotic, brain buster plays to a minimum and don’t over-stuff the offensive game plan. For the most part, call the plays that have been most productive this season.

2. Establish a fourth weapon besides Frank Gore, Anquan Boldin and Vernon Davis. It could be anyone – Mario Manningham, Kyle Williams, Jon Baldwin Vance McDonald, Kendall Hunter, LaMichael James, Bruce Miller, it doesn’t matter. Make that player someone the Panthers have to worry about and get him the ball early, within the first 15 plays. If Mike Shula can make Ted Ginn Jr. a threat and Bill Callahan can make Cole Beasley a threat, Greg Roman can make one of the 49ers I listed a threat.

11:36 The 49ers’ inactives are McLeod Bethel-Thompson, Quinton Patton, Kassim Osgood, Eric Wright, Quinton Dial, Joe Looney and Tank Carradine.

11:37 So Mario Manningham and LaMichael James are active.

11:38 The Panthers’ inactives are Tavarres King, Marvin McNutt, Josh Norman, James Dockery, Chris Scott, Brandon Williams and Wes Horton. Nate Chandler is strating for Scott and Sione Fua is now a guard and his number is 72.

12:33 Mario Manningham appears to be the starting split end in warm ups.

12:57 And it appears Dan Skuta will start, not Aldon Smith.
