SANTA CLARA — This is the live blog for the 49ers’ Week 11 game against the Arizona Cardinals. I will update this frequently with information and analysis from the press box.

11:36 Here are the 49ers’ inactives:

  • TE George Kittle
  • LT Joe Staley
  • K Robbie Gould
  • RB Matt Breida
  • NT D.J. Jones
  • LB Azeez Al-Shaair
  • QB C.J. Beathard

11:38 WR Emmanuel Sanders and CB Ahkello Witherspoon both are active.

11:40 Here are the Cardinals’ inactives:

  • CB Tramaine Brock
  • WR Damiere Byrd
  • RB Chase Edmonds
  • RB Zach Zenner
  • OL Lamont Gaillard
  • OL Joshua Miles
  • DL Jonathan Bullard

1:02 The 49ers win the toss and defer. The Cardinals will receive the opening kickoff.

1:10 On third and seven from the 49ers’ 44, Kyler Murray throws deep to Christian Kirk, who had beaten Richard Sherman deep. Sherman reached out and committed pass interference, but the referees didn’t throw a flag. Incomplete. The Cardinals are challenging the ruling.

1:12 Jimmie Ward got injured on that third down. He walked off  the field.

1:13 The referees reverse their ruling and flag Sherman for pass interference. Good call. The Cardinals have the ball at the 49ers’ three-yard line.

1:14 Jimmie Ward is back on the field.

1:19 On second and goal from the two, the Cardinals run an illegal pick play and lose 10 yards. On third and goal from the nine, Ward breaks up a pass in the end zone intended for Pharoh Cooper. The Cardinals make a 26-yard field goal and lead 3-0. Excellent play by Ward. Murray’s pass was on the money.

1:25 On third and five, Jimmy Garoppolo goes through his progressions in the pocket, sees no one open, scrambles to his right and throws an incomplete pass to Deebo Samuel, who was covered. Garoppolo had nowhere to go. The 49ers go three and out. The Cardinals get the ball at their 19 after the punt.

1:36 On third and 12 from the 49ers’ 42, Robert Saleh calls man-to-man coverage, and cornerback Emmanuel Moseley gets beat on a deep crossing route by Cooper for a gain of 23. Next play, Richard Sherman committs a 15-yard pass-interference penalty on Christian Kirk. Two plays later, line Elijah Lee gives up a five-yard touchdown catch to Larry Fitzgerald. The Cardinals lead 9-0 after missing the extra point.

1:47 On third and 10 from the Cardinals 41, Christian Kirk drops a first-down pass, and the Cardinals go three and out. Lucky break for the 49ers.

1:50. Kyler Murray’s supreme athleticism and remarkable arm strength allows him to set up deeper in the pocket than most quarterbacks. He stands so far away from the 49ers’ pass rush.

1:50 End of the first quarter. The 49ers will face third and nine from their 16 when the second quarter starts.

1:52 On third and nine, Cardinals inside linebacker Akiem Hicks blitzes and Tevin Coleman fails to block him, so Hicks sacks Garoppolo for a nine-yard loss. The Cardinals get the ball at their 43 after the punt.

2:04 On second and goal from the five, Murray completes a bubble-screen pass to Cooper, who jukes Ward and scores a touchdown. The 49ers trail 16-0. Their defense looks tired and their offense looks inept without George Kittle.

2:11 First play of the drive, Garoppolo throws a screen pass to Richie James Jr., who runs 57 yards to the Cardinals 18. Four plays later, on third and goal from the four, Garoppolo throws a touchdown pass to Ross Dwelley. The 49ers trail 16-7 with 7:52 remaining in the half.

2:21 On second and nine from the Cardinals 37, Dee Ford sacks Murray for a five-yard loss. The Cardinals punt two plays later. It seems Robert Saleh has made the necessary adjustments. The Cardinals offense looked out of sync during that series.

2:32 Dee Ford is questionable to return with a hamstring injury.

2:36 Chase McLaughlin makes a 43-yard field goal as the half ends. The 49ers trail 16-10. They will receive the ball when the second half starts.

2:59 On second and goal from the five, Garoppolo throws a touchdown pass Dwelley, who scores his second touchdown of the game. The 49ers lead 17-16. Ross Dwelley is the greatest player ever.

3:00 Whenever the Cardinals defense shows a pressure front on 1st or 2nd down, the Niners have made a “kill” call and passed. The Niners are killing them with the”kill” calls. Tevin Coleman’s 22-yard catch and run on the first play of the second half came after a kill call.

3:04 DeForest Buckner sacks Murray on first and 10, and the Cardinals go three and out. The 49ers get the ball at their 37 after the punt.

3:20 On third and five from the Cardinals 12, One-Read Jimmy stares down Emmanuel Sanders and almost throws a pick six. Linebacker Akiem Hicks intercepts the pass and returns it to the 49ers 47.

3:21 Dee Ford is out with a hamstring injury. Emmanuel Moseley has leg cramps and probably will return.

3:25 The Cardinals make a 43-yard field goal, and lead 19-17 with 2:54 left in the third quarter.

3:33 Deebo Samuel has a shoulder injury and is questionable to return.

3:33 The 49ers face second and seven from the Cardinals 26 when the fourth quarter starts.

3:34 On second and seven, Garoppolo throws a screen pass to Coleman, who gains eight yards and a first down.

3:38 On first and goal from the three, Garoppolo throws a touchdown pass to Kendrick Bourne.

3:38 The 49ers go for two. Kendrick Bourne blocks instead of running a route, so Jimmy Garoppolo has to throw the ball away. Bourne giveth and he taketh away. The 49ers lead 23-19 with 12:14 remaining in the fourth quarter. The screen game that was non-existent Monday night has been Jimmy Garoppolo’s savior today.

3:51 On first and 10 from the 49ers 22, Kyler Murray runs 22 yards into the end zone for a touchdown. The 49ers barely touched him. The Cardinals lead 26-23 with 6:30 left. I doubt they regret drafting Murray.

3:38 On third and seven from the Cardinals 24, Garoppolo throws a wild pass behind Dwelley, who reaches out and tips the ball to Patrick Peterson, who tips it to Deionte Thompson, who intercepts the ball and returns it to the Cardinals 25 with 4:32 left. Terrible throw by Jimmy.

4:03 On third and five, Arik Armstead sacks Murray for an 11-yard loss. The 49ers get the ball at their 34 with 2:12 remaining and two timeouts after the punt.

4:15 On first and 10 from the Cardinals 25, Garoppolo throws a touchdown pass to Jeff Wilson Jr. The 49ers lead 30-26 with 31 seconds left.

4:20 On first and 10, Murray completes a pass to Cooper, but Damontre Moore strips th eball from him and the 49ers recover. The 49ers will win 30-26. Stay tuned for my game story and report card.

4:26 The Cardinals fumble on the final play, and the 49ers recover and score a touchdown. They win 36-26.

  1. Lot of talk this week about blueprints.

For the season the 49ers have averaged 4.4 yards per carry. In their 3 division games they’ve averaged 2.9 ypc (2-1 record) compared to 5.0 ypc in their 6 non division games.

Can they get the ground game going today?

I think this is going to be a tight one

    1. Call it what you want, Jack. They’ll try to take away the run and force the 49ers to beat them with the passing game.

  2. If Sanders plays the entire game, the 49ers will win 26-22. If Sanders cannot play from beginning to end, the team will lose 22-16.

  3. Since Chandler Jones is good in pursuit, I hope they run right at him.
    .
JG should not be worried about anything, and just concentrate on scoring TDs, and not settling for field goals. He also needs to have better ball security.
    .
This is the game for the WRs to have redemption. JL still believes in them. I hope Richie James gets more snaps. With Sanders and Deebo garnering double teams, James should be able to beat single coverage.
    .
I had mentioned previously, that they should dial up some delayed blitzes up the middle, but if Warner can be unblocked like last game, I hope they utilize him more, and nail Murray in the pocket.
    .
Bosa needs to stop crashing inside, and allowing Murray to break containment, like he did with Wilson.

  4. If the Cards stack the box with 8, I hope the Niners send 4 receivers deep. With only 3 players back on defense, there should be an uncovered receiver.

  5. It is imperative that the defensive lineman get enough hydration today. Water or even Gatorade would work.
    .
    GO NINERS!!!

    1. Wrong again. The ball hit the receiver in the helmet. A receiver is unable to catch a ball with his head, therefore it should be called uncatchable.

    1. He sounds like me because he IS me.
      .
My catfish has an obvious comment above.
      .
BTW Looks like they followed my advice ;p

    1. They’re more lenient in the end zone for that stuff, because less space to work with. And unlike PI, it can’t be challenged.

  6. Niners are losing this game, bad match up..That simple,Jimmy can’t see the field and defense cannot stop Murray and Kingsbury

  7. Saleh has no answers it seems for the juggernaut that is the Arizona Cardinals. Hope that changes soon.

  8. Niners offense better get their ass in gear and start playing football or this is going to be a long day.

  9. Hahahaha….Cardinals looking like the best team in the NFL..To bad we can’t play the Browns and the Bucks every week!Well here comes Gorropolo to blow another drive..Will be another loss at century Link South!

  10. This is going to be a long second half of the season.

The Niners were winning due to Shanny’s complex play calling first half of this year. Opposing defenses were lost.

Now defenses have figured out all the movement and chaos and the run and pass game is suffering.

This is where it makes a difference to actually have playmakers and not just gimmicky playcalling.

  11. Getting so tired of Jimmy G. throwing high so often, that was another potential interception.

  12. Yeeeeeeehaaaaaaaw!

This is better than watching Hillary’s glass ceiling come crushing down on top of her 3 years back. ?

  13. I recommended that the 49ers visualize actually catching the ball.
    .
It seems Shanahan spent the week asking the receivers to visualize their drops.
    .
That’s what you get for not teaching what you want your team to become.
    .
The Niners could have taken my advice here.
    .
    It’s unfortunate.

  14. Can’t be too hard on Mostert there, it wasn’t the most egregious drop. Offence as a whole has been very uninspired so far. Luckily it’s only a 9 point hole.

  15. Sure, why not make a stupid challenge on a pretty obvious correct call. Who needs to save timeouts.

  16. Niners D biting on the read option. Murray showing good vision on keeping the ball in that situation.

    1. Problem is they’re not losing like an 8-1 team. They’re losing like a 1-8 team. Cracks that started to show in first cardinal game only getting wider.

      1. There is a good article on 49ers webzine from week four or five. It illustrates the issues on offense. It also has some nice work ups on how to address the issues at hand. A whole five games before anyone else.

  17. So much for elite defense lol. Niners embarrassing on both sides of the ball. 8-2 and niners will lose out the rest of the season and miss the playoffs. Book it.

  18. Well, let’s see how Shanahan & Saleh coach from here on. Klingsbury has been kicking their butts so far. :(

  19. The Niners are being outcoached, outplayed, and look completely lost and disinterested. Was 8-0 just an aberration?

  20. Zone read to catch the defensive linemen crashing, quick passes out of play action to hold the rush. Pretty impressive game calling for Arizona. Kyler Murray as a rushing option creating havoc on the defense.

Need a long sustained drive to rest the defense with motions, quick passes for short yardage. Spy on Murray, maintain outside contain on runs (meaning we need to rely on Taylor, Day, and Buckner to hold the middle).

  21. You notice how these long developing run plays don’t work no more?

Yeah, that’s because the rest of the league has caught up with Shanny’s confusing play calling.

Now teams know what to look for the 49ers don’t have the personnel to beat you straight up.

  22. I will say Jimmy G does a good job standing true in the pocket with pressure all around him. Time for some counters to spring the running game, since Arizona is overflowing to the pitch side.

    1. I told Michelle I’m just happy Jimmy hasn’t had a turnover YET!

Keep it up Jimbo careful on those pressures!

    1. The one on 1st and 20 had to be high to get over the Cardinals defenders in the short area.

    1. I’m all right with that call. We got the 3 points, it’s a 1 score game, and we get the ball to start the half.

  23. Our offense just doesn’t look right. Somethings off. Why aren’t we using our rotating running back system like earlier in the year? I know Breida is hurt but we have two other decent backs, other than Coleman. Where’s all the misdirection?

    1. George Kittle. Not only is he a stud but he’s their emotional leader on offense. Not having him right now is huge obviously…

  24. Nice to see the team battle back from what could have been an embarrassing blowout… Hopefully they’ll come out and dominate in the second half like the 8-1 team they are.

  25. Shanahan handled the clock correctly at the end of the half. That BS holding call cost the 49ers 4 points. You see that exact same type of block on nearly every pass play and it’s never called. The head ref was staring at it and didn’t throw the flag. The other ref threw the flag. From PI to holding, the NFL must fix the officiating. It’s so inconsistent. Very hard to watch.

    1. Shanahan has an aversion for WRs over 6’2. When he does find one, he’s a converted running back, that’s been up in the Lux boxes all season.

I think they just red-shirted Hurd.

  26. Signs of life. I believe the Niners now have 5 TDs called back due to penalties this season. Kittle makes the tough 3rd down grabs Bourne cant seem to handle. We need better pass catchers.

  27. Well hopefully a TD here cures all evils, right??!?!!

Can’t wait to see all the regulars return after abandoning the blog because they can’t take a little heat to start the game.

    Lame..

    1. Watch them all come pouring in now.

Undercenter, Sour Yeast, MidWest, Sebbie, Houston, Ribico….

  28. Illegal shifts need to be eliminated, stupid penalties that do nothing but destroy the flow of the game.

    1. Defo agree it needs to be called more tightly. I believe it’s there to stop the offence completely flipping over at the last second. Probably should only be given when that’s clearly the case, rather than when receiver stops for a split second instead of a full one.

  29. Both Jimmy and Dwelley are having very good games overall so far. Great drive. Overcame a couple poor penalties, especially the Deebo one.

  30. Last week we missed the screen plays to the rb’s. It slows down the pass rush. Look what happens when you go back to them…

  31. Funny how Dwelley looked back after catching the TD pass to make sure that no flags were thrown.

Every time Sanders gets tackled and gets back up slowly, I flinch. Those ribs must hurt a lot despite the pain killing injections ….

Time for the D to take over.

  32. Buckner is wonderful. German Samoan family and well educated in Hawaii. The same elite prep school Obama went to.

  33. Jimmy why. I was just going to praise you for that last throw and then that? Come on man. That’s awful.

    1. You can’t knock jimmy on pocket presence he actually has that down pretty well. Sometimes he does hold on to it longer than he should but that’s experience factor.

  34. I still think Bourne can be one of the better WRs on the team, if he can focus and keep it together.

  35. If it wasn’t for that pick Jimmy would be having a fantastic game. Gotta mark that one against him as it was egregious and took points off the board while giving the Cards a short field. Still, bounced back nicely, think he’ll need to score another td before this game is done though.

  36. This kid Murray is going to be the 2nd best QB in the division next year. Might be already.

    1. They’ve been gashed by dual threat QBs left right and center. Nothing new here just the main story last 3 weeks.

  37. Lol…another loss at the craziest stadium in the NFL!Who owns Levi’s? Everyone but the Niners!

  38. Very poor drive from the defence there. They need to make more plays than that. Not good enough at this stage. F#cking get it together.

  39. The run defense is just not good, not outright bad, but it is clear that that run D is a real problem.

We can still lose this game.

  40. Wonder how many more starters we will lose on this drive? The SF marshmallows…melting when the heat is on!

  41. Lamar Jackson is going to have a field day with Bosa. He has zero discipline on the read option. Same thing happened with Wilson.

  42. Down to a field goal with our back up kicker?Hope it doesn’t go in the tunnel again

  43. Can’t blame Jimmy our oline is putrid as the dirt Levi’s stadium is built on

  44. Yeah that’s not all on Jimmy. That’s on Dwelley too. Huge error as a TD for the Cards ends this game. Don’t think the Niners deserve to win tbh, they’ve been pretty awful in too many facets today.

  45. Weak attempt on the gunners right there on special teams. Both guys were right on top of James.

  46. Thank God they called it a first down. Because I’m not sure he got it, but it’s not clear or convincing evidence to overturn.

  47. Thank God Jimmy G recognized the blitz; middle of the field open due to the blitz, running back gets to run an angle pattern into the open field.

  48. Nick Mullens is NOT better (and I like him a lot)

DUMB interception, Jimmy! LEARN from it and MOVE ON

One of the attributes that made Joe Montana great was he didn’t give a s**t how many interceptions he threw (or fumbles, bad reads, etc.). He stayed confident and aggressive. PERIOD
NOTE: For younger fan and the White Wine set, Joe Montana actually did throw a few interceptions & even fumbled occasionally.. hard to believe I’m sure, given his current status as Demi-God (which I fully support BTW).

I AM NOT comparing Jimmy G with Joe. I AM saying I hope he can cultivate that same “I don’t give a s**t” attitude. If Jimmy can do THAT the results will take care themselves.

Improving his overall Accuracy would be a good thing too.

    ????

  49. Nice to not hear the name Pettis said today. Deebo looking like the receiver we need. But they can’t play this bad and expect to win more than once or twice again this year.

  50. That’s a fantastic win. Down 16 points even if it’s at home isn’t easy to get out of but the team didn’t panic which was great to see.

Jimmy… it’s hard to say he played great but he really did outside of the two picks. The problem is those picks made the game a lot more complicated than it needed to be. He made up for it, but it still cost points and it was when and where the picks game that were costly. He’s going to have to cut those out very quickly as the teams coming up won’t be as incomplete as the Cards are. But, the key thing is the team overcame a hell of a lot to come out with a tough, vital win. Good game.

  51. Wilson has shown all season he’s money near/in the redzone. Niners really need to get him more involved in the passing game. He only had 1 catch and scores the winning TD.

  52. Jeff Wilson needs to play more esp in these games where the opposing defense stacks the box. He can at least punish the defenders.

  53. That was a weird gambling play.

That fumble got the line to 10, which was the general spread. The Cards were covering until that play. If they get ten, it’s tied and a push. If SF kicks the extra point (which is supposed to be how the game ends) then the Niners cover.

    Wow.

Lots of confused, pissed bettors on that final line.

          1. Peeps disguised as 49ers fans like this Ribico guy who leaves when they’re losing and returns when they win; then proceeds to ‘splain it away saying the trolls saw him out. Whatever dude, you did come back… after they got on top. Fair weather man, fair weather..

            1. No, this Niner fan prefers to watch an awesome Niners game in the company of something other than Jr. High dropouts.

So f-off and eat $hit, “Barack Obama”

    1. Looks like most of the trolls have climbed back in their holes. Hopefully they will stay there.

  54. I told you we would win,Jimmy g is unshakeable! We are a dynasty and Levi’s is the toughest stadium in the NFL..Take that you Debbie downers!

Lol…another loss at the craziest stadium in the NFL!Who owns Levi’s? Everyone but the Niners!

But hey, it’s a game thread – a time to be emotional and on a roller coaster :)

  55. Jimmy Garoppolo joins Joe Montana and Steve Young as the only 49ers quarterbacks to throw for 400 yards and 4 TD in a game. Prior to today, Young was the last 49ers QB to do that back in 1993. https://t.co/d29r1ifQND

  56. Lost 100 because they didn’t kick the extra point! What!!?? At least it was a push but what the hell!!

    1. Dude you might need to get your head checked out if this matters that much to you.

      1. If it matters that much to you to advise him to see a shrink, why don’t you PayPal him the $100 he would have won if they had just kicked the extra point so that he can “get straight”?

  57. I told y’all ..Jimmy is clutch! My emotions ran rampant and he’d to many beers but I knew Jimmy would come through..Very Montana esque performance and Levi’s was rocking!Never a doubt in my mind baby!

  58. So much for that blueprint. LMAO!!!!

Tough win. Very awesome to see guys like Wilson and Moore be the hero’s.

    1. Amazing what happens when the receivers catch the ball, isn’t it.

      1. I agree. The “blueprint” nearly failed for Seattle. A high school kicker would have put up a better try.
The “blueprint” is how teams compete with SF. The players still have to execute. Az executed like a 3 win team.

    2. “So much for that blueprint. ”

What does that mean? The strategy almost worked. You can bet all of the future opponents will try the same thing. It gives the other team the best opportunity to win. Doesn’t mean they will.

      1. Yah, what it means is …. Garoppolo passed for 424 yards, 4 TD’s, and averaged 9.4 yards per attempt! If this offense can put up this kind of production through the air, without their best receiver (Kittle), and a banged up-severely limited #1 WR (Sanders was clearly hurting today, big time), it’s a strategy that is certainly unlikely to work against the Niners once Kittle and Sanders get healthy!

Huge win, and a huge bounce back after Monday’s heart breaker! The Niners’ needed this one!

Deebo is a beast! Also, I find it fitting that Damontre’ Moore would make a bigger play in his first regular season game for the Niners, than Solomon Thomas has made all season long!

        GO NINERS!!!

      2. “The strategy almost worked.”

        LMAO!

The only 3 teams that have sold out to stop the run are Arizona, LA and Seattle. The 49ers are now 3-1 in those games, could be 4-0 if the kicker makes it in OT.

This blueprint nonsense started in the Super Bowl with Belichick against LA. Newsflash, Jimmy Garoppolo ain’t Jared Goff.

        1. Jack: Teams are trying the strategy because it seems to show the most promise. The closest games (and I’m not sure the Rams actually did as you say) came when the other teams used the “stop the run, make them win the game by passing” strategy. The games where the 49ers ran over teams were primarily the games where they ran the ball well. Nothing wrong with the strategy used by the opponents. It’s up to the 49ers to shutdown that strategy.

I don’t know what Grant has been saying about the so-called blueprint (I try not to use that term) because I don’t watch Grant’s periscopes anymore.

          1. Ha! And now a comment with nothing close to foul language or anything inappropriate is awaiting moderation.

          2. Cubus,,

Close means nothing, and this strategy has only worked with Kittle and Sanders out along with WR’s dropping the ball all over the place.

You don’t need to watch the Periscopes to hear about the supposed blueprint. Grant wrote an article on it this week and brought it up in writing shortly after the Super Bowl.

            1. You’re commenting like this was an absolute. It worked and opposing DCs copycatted (who wouldn’t). Niners are now showing that maybe it doesn’t work so well (even though we still have a weak receiving corps). It’s just strategy and counterstrategy. Pretty clear – won’t say anything more.

              1. “It worked”

It hasn’t worked. 4 teams have gone out of their way to stop the 49ers run game. Those teams are now 1-3 in those 4 games, and a missed FG from being 0-4.

In those 4 games Garoppolo has a QB rating of 99.2.

In the other 6 games Garoppolo has a QB rating of 96.3.

Yes, it’s a strategy. And considering it’s now failed 75% of the time I’d say it’s one that’s been proven not to work.

              2. The point is, despite the fact that the 49ers are shorthanded at receiver right now, Arizona’s “strategy” to sell out against the run, resulted in Garoppolo passing for 442 yards, 4 TD’s, and a 9.4 AVG. That 442 yards eclipsed the Cardinals’ average TOTAL yards per game given up this season, which was 412.5 coming into today, and Garoppolo shattered the Cardinals net passing yards given up per game average of 286.5 YDS.

So based on that, and the fact that the Cardinals lost the game, it’s hard to see this as any kind of successful blueprint, or winning strategy to be used against Garoppolo and the Niners moving forward.

    3. Love Tarvarious Moore!
      .
I was advocating for the Niners to play him more at safety.
      .
Nice to see Saleh listening to sound advice.
      .
      GO NINERS!!!

      1. Yeah it was a strange move. The kind Joe or his son Hunter would make.

What a dumb thing to post on a sports blog. Get a life dude!

As for the decision, I didn’t like it at all, and it didn’t seem to make sense, but they do have a card that dictates what to do in that situation, based on analytics.

      2. Dude! I don’t know about you, but here on the Naval Reserve Officer side of the house, we all suck on a crack pipe before Battle Assembly—Stay awake, stay alive, stay engaged with the sailors you lead!!!

(Yeah, so you roll the dice on the random week end pee test—the price you gotta pay…)

        Stay high Niners!

    1. Tried to make it a 6 point game. Given that the kicker had already missed an extra point and 5 points didn’t change much it makes some sense, but was risky given the time left and how much the score could flip.

      1. It was just dumb to go for 2 at that point. It doesn’t add anything good. The other team would still need a TD and XP to win. However, by making an XP there, the 49ers could have won on a FG if (turned out to be when) the Cardinals scored a TD. Kyle made it so the 49ers had to score a TD to win.

  59. I love this team. They are only going to get better this year and in years to come.

    Bring on Green Bay!

    1. Will have to come from free agency at a steep price.

Takes rookie WRs too long to develop and by then the window will have closed.

    2. Maybe #1 should be OT, Staley may be done. Are we ready for Skule to assume the role full time?

  60. I think I got murdered in the preseason for saying Deebo Samuel looks like Steve Smith out there but I really think he does! Maybe he’s not ever going to be as good, but even resembling the future HOFer is good enough for me.

    1. maybe Golden Tate… although he doesn’t yet have Tate’s hands in terms of drops and contested catch rate.

  61. Could be interesting receiver-wise once Hurd returns to the field….likely not ’til 2020, sadly…

  62. Not good. Let’s hope Deebo is okay and Kittle comes back. Pettis and Goodwin are no shows.

    On Rotoworld:

Emmanuel Sanders caught 3-of-5 targets for 33 yards in the 49ers’ Week 11 win over the Cardinals.
Sanders unfortunately aggravated his ribs injury midway through this game, briefly returned, but then finished the game on the sideline. It’s unclear what his status will be for Week 12 against the Packers.

  63. I am satisfied. I am glad they used Dwelley as a receiver. I am glad they activated Jeff Wilson. I am glad Richie James got more snaps. I am glad Pettis did not play. I am happy that JG concentrated on scoring TDs, instead of settling for field goals. JG still needs to work on his ball security.
    ,
I will commend KS on his game clock management. He still wasted a time out on a iffy challenge, and burned one to stop from getting a delay of game penalty. Still he had 2 time outs and used them wisely. My son said they should do some sweeps when they wanted to burn time with 31 seconds left, but at least KS did not dial up any pass plays.
    .
This team did not start well, but their depth kept them in the game. Players stepped up. JG was clutch. There were way too many penalties, but the Niners persevered, and grabbed a victory from a formidable opponent.

  64. Won’t be surprised if the Cards do the Niners a solid in beating Seattle and Lambs in the coming weeks…. much more competitive than their record shows.

    1. They are. It’s looking like the combination of KK and KM is no joke like many originally thought.

    2. Agree. I think AZ gets past the Rams and brings the Seahawks down to the wire–could go either way.

  65. Bosa still crashed inside, and let Murray break containment. KS unwisely did not kick the point after. The 2 point play failed. Glad that decision did not come to haunt them.
    .
The Niners still need to be more balanced, and the Cards started out so well, so there is still lots of room for improvement. The Niner defense prevented a loss, but the Niner offense won the game.

  66. 1. Three straight stressful niner games. Jeez.
    2. RJ should start in the slot. He has done well with his limited opportunities. Big catch today. Remember the 60 yard catch and run versus Raiders last year.
    3. The second holding call on Richburg was BS.
    4. Dwelley’s instant reaction after second TD was to look back and check for flags instead of celebrating.
    5. Jimmy took a late hit on the on 50 yard pass to Coleman.
    6. The missed screen to Coleman in the redzone was an errant pass from Jimmy. It was nearly identical to the play versus Rams which was a drop by Coleman. The play works since Coleman would have walked in for TD on both, so they need to tighten their timing up.
    7. Of course the very next play was the first TD to Dwelley.
    8. Full week of rest and then Sunday night versus Packers.

      1. Yup. Also Dwelley has earned more time even after Kittle returns. Kittle is a former WR . He could potentially be split out wide when the circumstances call for it.

    1. I agree with your comments. My biggest criticism of KS, is he is stubborn. Dante Pettis is a bust, a terrible pick, chosen by KS. He should be cut and move on. RJ had very good preseason both this year and last. His opportunities in regular season games have been limited but successful. He deserves more opportunities. By the same token Jeff Wilson had an excellent preseason but did not make the roster, he had to clear waivers and then go to practice squad. He is the toughest inside runner on the team. By the way did you notice the catch he made on that touchdown? Awesome! You should earn playing time, by making plays. I could make the same argument regarding the backup quarterbacks, Mullens is mitch better , because of his play, however Beathard is Shannys boy so he is still on the roster.

  67. The officiating was bad, the bulk of the poor calls went against the niners, but not all. Every time I see that head official I think oh no. I am not talking just niner games, I am talking every game I see this crew.

    1. I thought I saw a number of holds by the Cardinals OL that weren’t called, but they didn’t seem to miss any that the SF OL committed.

  68. We need to get healthy . Street is returning next week btw. My cousin works out with him and he’s returning from having his knee scoped.

  69. One of the things I love about Jimmy is that he will occasionally stare down a receiver, not look the safety off and then throw a bone head interception. But the next time out of the field he will still sling it. He does not seem to get down on himself. The boy believes and that is no small thing. Also, his teammates believe in him which is definitely not a small thing.

  70. Good..the whole team everyone stepped up when they had to
Bad..Soloman Thomas..a queer who most people knew would never amount to anything ..He wasn’t even worth a 7th round pick, yet Razor swore he was a “king”..just like every other bust..My only advice to the Niners is never draft a player Razor queefer likes..That dude gots worse eyesight than Mr Magoo…Jimmy G is clutch!

  71. It’s clear (like most teams) that the 49ers have their work cut out for them against the running type QB’s.

But if we play against Lamar Jackson in the SB (hypothetical thinking) we should be well prepared. Our young LB’s will have gained some good experience playing against the likes of Wilson and Murray in 4 games. These two QB’s will be a thorn for years to come.

But to the present, the 49ers started sluggish today and Jimmy still can’t escape his 1-2 head scratcher plays and some inaccurate throws.
That said, he did bring the team back from a 16 pt deficit. The 49ers will be back to a normal week of football for the first time in about 3 weeks and that should help.

I expect GoldmenSacks to come strong next Sunday against Mr. Rodgers who is less of a runner than RW and KM.
Looking forward to another good game.

  72. Agree Leo. As I’ve said before, Jimmy reminds me of a young Favre. Favre threw a boatload of interceptions in his first three years, but never let that stop him from continuing to sling it. Jimmy is the same way. He just keeps coming and slinging. He’s fearless. He’s having fun out there. Yes, he’s going to drive folks crazy with interceptions, me included, but winning is what ultimately counts, and Jimmy just wins. He’s a missed field goal away from being 18-2 as a starter. I’ll take 17-3. He’s only going to get better.

    1. Juan,
If we play the Ravens in the SB, think of the irony.
      1. We would play against a run/type QB which is the opposite of the 2012 SB when we had Kaep.
      2. In this SB we could have a WR in Deebo Samuels that resembles Auquan Bolden who played big against us in the SB.
      3. We have a QB in Jimmy G, who is pocket passer as was Joe Flacco.
The 49ers and Ravens would be the opposite of what they were in 2012.
We have some SB payback to drop on Baltimore. A game like this would bring everything full-circle.

      1. You are wise AES and absolutely correct. That would be something. Lots of ground to cover still before that could possibly happen or the other intriguing possible matchup, New England. Teacher vs Student! That would be a great one. Baltimore scares me more honestly. That place is a house of horrors for the Niners and so is the following week at N.O. The next three weeks are going to be full tilt!! Can’t wait!

  73. I’ve decided I’m a Dante Pettis fan. He hasn’t lived up to his draft status but I absolutely loved how he was so happy for his teammates even though he’s going thru a difficult situation personally. I liked that. I hope he can figure things out and be a contributor.

  74. I think they ought to roll with Samuel, Bourne and James. James and Samuel moving in and out of the slot. I like Bourne. He seems to know what to do around the red zone.

I also think they should split Mostert out more and get him on a linebacker in space.

    Jimmy G stepped up.

    Good for him.

    Let’s keep it rolling.
