Dolphins claim Hannon off waivers

The Miami Dolphins, whom the 49ers play next week, claimed 49ers receiver Chris Hannon off waivers today.

Hannon suited up for the 49ers on Sunday due to a rash of injuries at the wide receiver positions. Arnaz Battle and Josh Morgan were out, and Jason Hill was nursing a groin injury. Hannon did not play in the game.

Hannon was waived on Tuesday so the 49ers could re-sign linebacker Ahmad Brooks.

The odd thing is that Hannon, who had been on the 49ers’ practice squad since the beginning of the season could have been signed by another team at any time. But the Dolphins waited a week before they are scheduled to play the 49ers to make the move.

The 49ers would have signed Hannon back to the practice squad. The 49ers have one open spot on the p-squad.

Earlier Wednesday, the 49ers signed linebacker Justin Roland to fill the practice squad spot that was vacated when rookie linebacker Larry Grant was signed to the St. Louis Rams’ 53-man roster.
