For the Love of Boobie Dixon

Here’s the transcript of an interaction that took place yesterday in the locker room between Anthony “Boobie” Dixon, Ted Ginn Jr., Kendall Hunter, Gwen Knapp and me.

Knapp first approached Dixon to ask him about Frank Gore, and I came in to ask follow-up questions.

KNAPP: How do you relate to Frank Gore on the sideline and on the field?

DIXON: I’m like his boxing coach on the sideline.

KNAPP: How are you his boxing coach?

DIXON: I try to keep him motivated. Try to be a good teammate, that’s it. When he comes off the field sometimes he asks us how he looked, and I just try to give him positive feedback.

GC: Boxing coaches don’t just give positive feedback.

DIXON: I tell him what’s real. He’s doing good, and I just keep letting him know that I’m his boxing coach.

GC: Have you ever boxed before?

DIXON: No, I haven’t gotten in the ring and boxed before. Me and Frank, we always out there play boxing, though.

GC: Slap boxing?

DIXON: Not really slap boxing. We just kind of talk about what we would do. Frank’s a boxer and he’s always coming up to us talking about, “Put ‘em up. Put ‘em up.” I was like, “Man, go ahead, man!”

KNAPP: How did you get this blonde strip in your hair?

DIXON: You gotta go to the store and get you some dye.

GC: Did you dye it yourself?

DIXON: No, one of my friend’s did.

GC: Did she charge you?

DIXON: Yeah, she charged me. This is about a sixty-dollar doo.

KNAPP: I’d do that for fifty-five.

DIXON: No, it’s a sixty-dollar doo.

GC: What was the inspiration for that?

DIXON: Well, I was telling some of the other guys in the locker room: the Lion King. This is my lion mane right here. I feel like I’m in the jungle at times. (Ted Ginn Jr, who’s sitting on a stool in front of his locker a few feet away, starts shaking with laughter).

GC: So you were watching the Lion King, and you said…

GINN JR: (Speaking for Dixon) That’s me.

DIXON: I said, Simba, he was like, “Rarrrghh!” I said, “You know what? That’s me. That’s how I feel right now.”

GC: No one’s copied you yet? No one’s said, “That’s me, too.”?

DIXON: I don’t know if they’ve got enough confidence to pull this off, if they have the confidence and swagger like I do.

GC: (Pointing to Hunter two lockers away, studying something in his lap, trying to ignore the rumpus) What’s he doing?

DIXON: He’s trying to get his mind together, get his mind right. (Dixon looks closer) He’s texting his girlfriend, trying to make sure that she know that he love her every day (Kendall blushes and walks out of the locker room with his cell phone).

GC: You don’t text your girlfriend every day?

DIXON: I don’t got a girlfriend.

KNAPP: He wants you to write about that.

DIXON: Let all the ladies know that I’m available and I’m searching. I’m thinking about having a little MTV show: For the Love of Boobie Dixon. Ted Ginn’s going to be there.

GINN JR: He right. I’ll be there.

DIXON: He’s going to help me judge.

GINN JR: You daaamn right!

Dixon: For the Love of Boobie Dixon. We’re going to get the TV show started. Just let ‘em know that I’m taking all invitations.

KNAPP: What’s the most important thing you’re looking for in a woman?

DIXON: Personality, they’ve got to have personality. I’m a loose person, and they’ve got to be able to hang with me.

KNAPP: Alright, now I’m going to walk away and he’ll tell you what he’s really looking for.

Dixon and Ginn Jr. laughed and left the locker room to go to a meeting.

UPDATE: Dixon just dyed the blonde stripe in his head pink, presumably for breast cancer awareness month.

FINAL UPDATE: Per his twitter: “Well Pink didn’t Go, But I got Blonder, hopefully the next week ladies!” The pink just washed out, according to a source.
