George Kittle expects Brock Purdy to be the 49ers week one starter

Add George Kittle to those who expect Brock Purdy to line up behind center week one for the 49ers when they take on the Pittsburgh Steelers.

On Tuesday, Kittle joined the Dan Patrick Show to promote Tight End University which takes place next week in Nashsville. During the conversation Patrick took the opportunity to ask Kittle if he expects Purdy to start week one.

“Oh yeah,” said Kittle. “You win eight games in a row, it’s hard to bench that guy.”

Purdy suffered a torn ulnar collateral ligament in his throwing elbow on the sixth play of the NFC championship game against Philadelphia in late January. He underwent an internal brace procedure to repair the injury on March 10.

According to 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan and general manager John Lynch, the expected timeline for Purdy to return was around six months with the quarterback beginning to throw after three months.

Purdy began throwing a full-size football on May 29, putting him ahead of schedule.

“He’s been throwing. I think he looks good. I’ve seen him throw,” Kittle told Patrick. “He’s in a good place mentally and physically so I’m excited about that. Like I said, we were rolling with him, scoring 30 points a game. Looking forward to it.”

Kittle’s excitement at the prospect of playing with Purdy makes sense. With Purdy at quarterback late in the season, Kittle saw his production soar as the two connected for seven touchdowns, more than his previous career high for a full season.

  1. George said it best. And it’s been my opinion of Brock all along, when he’s in at QB the offense scores 30+ points a game. Period.
    Trey 10-17 ppg.
    Jimmy G 13-20 ppg.

    In Brock we trust. ✊

  2. I don’t care which QB runs the offense the best and scores the most points. Just start the guy who throws it the furthest. That’s all that matters.

    1. Grant..your comments are getting a little too easy to figure out who posts them

  3. Just hope this doesn’t put undue pressure on Brock.
    We all want him back.
I want him back healed all the way and ready for the long run.

    1. He doesn’t seem like the type to feel a lot of pressure. Certainly not more than when he took over from Jimmy after his foot injury last year.

      1. I agree.
Trying to make the team as the last player picked in the draft, didn’t seem to faze him. Can’t see him being pressured now that he’s likely the starter going forward. The pressure will be on Lance and Darnold to become the #2 QB.

        1. The pressure would be for him to say and play as if he’s recovered too soon.
          There’s nothing like reinjuring yourself

  4. If Purdy gets another chance to start he is going to be exposed. The league will figure him out and everyone will look back on last years small sample size and feel like morons for thinking it would sustain. Kittle should keep his mouth shut and worry about staying on the field for a change.

The cream will rise to the top and Trey Lance will be the man going forward and lead the niners to the playoffs. I will be here laughing at all of you when it happens. My boyfriend ninermd will be laughing at all of you when it happens. And Kyle Shanahan will still figure out a way to blow a playoff game when it matters most like always. And the Yorks will tell Lynch to trade Lance and play Purdy. We have seen this story play out before. Open up your eyes!

    1. Is this just a platform for you to let everyone know your boyfriend took you back? We don’t care.

      1. Typical Smither response. Nobody asked you Felix. Longtime posters know who ninermd is. We met thanks to this page. Our hatred of Alex Smith brought us together and once we met and both decided to become open about our sexuality, it was life changing. But that’s none of your business! Worry about your own relationships!

This is a platform for me to vent my frustrations about the team I used to love until Trust Fund Jed ruined everything. Some of you seem to think losing in the playoffs is OK as long as we get there. Raise your standards! We are fine with LOSER QB’s like Alex Smith and Jimmy G. Now we are fine with another LOSER head coach who chokes in the clutch. These are facts! You don’t have to like it but you can’t change it. Wake up!

        1. You always echo my views on KS, this team & organization, precisely. Thanks. You save me from having to post frequently to the misguided many on this blog, most especially Felix.

        2. Bay,
What you do as an adult is your business and fine with me. But, calling someone a “Smither” is taking it WAY to far! lol

        3. Bay,
Its been 11 years since Smith last played for the 9ers. How bout a new Epithet for those who disagree with you. How about Purdyist or Yorkist. Smither is just stale and tired and no longer means anything to most 49er fans.

        4. If it’s non of my business why do you keep mentioning it in your posts? Obviously you have an emotional need to let everyone know. Funny how you call Smith and Jimmy losers when both were head shoulders above Krapernick and Trey hasn’t be able to beat out anybody yet. As for Shanahan you must really hate the other 30 NFL head coaches who can’t get as far as Shanahan. Raising standards has nothing to do with it and is insane to even think that. I’m a happy camper most of the time because the Niners win most of the time. You on the other hand complain constantly. Not a mentally healthy way to live life.

          1. Your response is a bit long for him…it’s pride month, and you’re taking time from his celebrating, drag shows and dress shopping…and BTW..his claim to be lovers with NinerMD is probably a wagon load of BS…he and MD are probably the same person

            1. Don’t forget to include Ribico, who claims his partner is a member of the Film Actors Guild…

  5. Yeah. When Purdy has a rough outing, Purdyless might work as well.

The Smith ship sailed out a longtime ago. And Bay, the Keapernick ship is somewhere lost at sea.

  6. Hey, Jack.
Is the PD sponsoring escort services now? lol.

The TEU seems to be picking up steam since it’s inception. Do you see any chance that the PD will allow you to attend this event given the fact that Lance and Darnold are participating?

    1. Hey AES,

I don’t think I will be able to get out to Nashville. Any travel is on me, and I am saving up those miles to attend a few road games during the regulara season and joint training camp practices with the Raiders in Las Vegas.
