Lights Out, Broadway Joe and a live blog

Greetings from rain-soaked Candlestick. No sunscreen
necessary here today. The forecast is calling for showers throughout the game. Maybe
that attacking offense will have to wait?

I’ll post some postgame notes here leading up until
kickoff. I’ll also be living blogging during the game.

• Niners’ inactives: QB Troy Smith (3rd QB), WR Kyle Williams, S Curtis Taylor, TE Delanie Walker, T Barry Sims, G Tony Wragge, T Alex Boone and WR Jason Hill.

• Raiders’ inactives: QB Bruce Gradkowski (3rd QB), RB
Darren McFadden, CB Walter McFadden, RB Michael Bennett, LB Travis Goethel, LB Thomas
Howard, DT Mario Henderson and WR Chaz Schilens.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter is speculating the 49ers will have
an interest in claiming injured Chargers linebacker Shawne Merriamn once he’s
released by San Diego
. Schefter says San Francisco even considered trading for
Merriman before the Chargers decided to let him go.

• Perhaps you’ve read about Joe Namath’s endorsement of
Alex Smith this week. On his SIRIUS
NFL Radio show the Hall of Famer said,
I tell you what, give up Alex Smith, you’ll see about 29 teams or 28
teams trying to grab him.”

Nice sentiment. However, for fans of a certain age, whose
most enduring memory of Broadway Joe is of him slobbering over Suzy Kolber,
this reads more like an indictment.

• In the 49ers’ losses to New Orleans, Atlanta and
Philadelphia, they have lost by a combined eight points and Alex Smith has
committed seven turnovers. Each of Smith’s miscues occurred inside opponents’
territory, including four inside the 36-yard line.

•  Battle of the … Bottom Dwellers? Raiders record since 2003: 31-86 (.265). Niners record since 2003: 40-77 (.342).

• Way to go, rookie: RT Anthony Davis has experienced
some expected growing pains this season, but he is tied for the NFC lead in one
category. Davis has two fumble recoveries, sharing the NFC lead with New
Orleans’ Drew Brees, Minnesota’s Bernard Berrian, Carolina’s Jimmy Clausen and
Arizona’s Levi Brown.
