Linehan decision expected by end of weekend

Scott Linehan is expected to notify the 49ers of his decision by the end of the weekend. The 49ers offered Linehan the position of offensive coordinator Thursday night, sources told The Press Democrat.

Linehan, 45, is clearly very interested in returning to coaching after being fired as Rams head coach after four games last season. On Thursday, Linehan visited with 49ers coach Mike Singletary and general manager Scot McCloughan for the second time in a week.

On Friday, Linehan returned to the St. Louis area, where he lives with his wife and their three boys. The 49ers have agreed to let Linehan take his time to make a decision, a source said.

The 49ers declined to comment on the situation.

Rick Dennison, whom the 49ers interviewed for the offensive-coordinator position, will remain with the Broncos as offensive line coach, according to the Rocky Mountain News.

Rob Chudzinski and Clyde Christensen also interviewed with the 49ers. Chudzinski was not retained on Eric Mangini’s staff with the Browns as offensive coordinator, while Christensen is still a member of the Colts’ coaching staff.
