Lotsa work getting done at 49ers’ practice facility

Today is the last day draft-eligible prospects are allowed to visit with teams prior to the April 25-26 draft. The 49ers expect a turnout in the mid-30s for their local pro day at the team’s practice facility in Santa Clara.

The only real notable local players (that I know about) who are not expected to attend are fast-rising defensive end Jarron Gilbert and cornerback Coye Francies, both of San Jose State. Gilbert is scheduled to visit the Redskins today. Francies had his wisdom teeth pulled on Tuesday, and his doctor advised him not to work out because of an infection.

Meanwhile, the 49ers report a very encouraging turnout for the team’s offseason program. Many players are remaining in the area to take full advantage of the new-and-improved weight room. (For those on Facebook, I’ve added photos of the remodel on my profile page.)

Receiver Isaac Bruce and running back Frank Gore have not taken part in the 49ers’ offseason program. Bruce and Gore – two guys coach Mike Singletary does not have to worry about getting out of shape – go through their own personal training programs at home.

Bruce lives in St. Louis. Gore has remained in Miami while his house is being built there. Linebacker Takeo Spikes began work in the offseason program, but other responsibilities required his return to Atlanta.

All three quarterbacks on the roster – Shaun Hill, Alex Smith and Damon Huard – are taking part in the offseason program and learning new offensive coordinator Jimmy Raye’s system.

By the end of the offseason program, the 49ers expect there to be 100-percent attendance. The program concludes June 14 for veterans, and June 25 for rookies and first-year players.

The next minicamp is scheduled for the weekend after the draft (May 1-3). It is a voluntary minicamp. The team’s mandatory minicamp is June 5-7. The 49ers’ organized team activities are scheduled for May 18-21, June 1-2, June 8-11, June 15-16. (They’re allowed 14 sessions.)

I don’t have any confirmed list of local players expected to take part in today’s pro day. But here are players from local colleges, according to NFLDraftScout.com, who have at least a chance of making it into an NFL camp:

Menlo (1) — OT Victor Brankovich

San Jose State (12) — Gilbert, Francies, CB Christopher Owens, DE Jeff Schweiger, K Jared Strubeck, WR David Richmond, TE Jeff Clark, RB Yonus Davis, OT Bradis McGriff, FS Kyle Flynn, LB Brian Elledge, C Justin Paysinger.

Stanford (8) — C Alex Fletcher, DE Pannel Egboh, RB Anthony Kimble, OT Ben Muth, CB Wopamo Osaisai, ILB Pat Maynor, OG Gustav Rydstedt, K Aaron Zagory.

It should be noted that players from the Bay Area who went away to college are also eligible to participate in the pro day. Ken Dorsey, Marcus Maxwell and Jason Hill are among the players in recent years who attended.
