SANTA CLARA — This is the live blog for the first round of the NFL draft. I will update this with information and analysis from the 49ers press room.

4:22 Here is my projection for the first 10 picks:

  1. Arizona Cardinals: Kyler Murray, QB, Oklahoma
  2. San Francisco 49ers: Quinnen Williams, DT, Alabama
  3. New York Jets: Ed Oliver, DT, Houston
  4. Oakland Raiders: Nick Bosa, DE, Ohio State
  5. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Josh Allen, LB, Kentucky
  6. New York Giants: Devin White, ILB, LSU
  7. Jacksonville Jaguars: Jawaan Taylor, OT, Florida
  8. Detroit Lions: T.J. Hockenson, TE, Iowa
  9. Buffalo Bills: Jonah Williams, G/T, Alabama
  10. Washington Redskins (trade): Dwayne Haskins, QB, Ohio State

5:07 The 49ers and Raiders are talking trade according to Adam Schefter. The Raiders want to move up from the fourth pick in Round 1.

5:25 The Arizona Cardinals take quarterback Kyler Murray with the first pick. No surprise. The 49ers are on the clock.

5:30 The 49ers take Nick Bosa with the second pick. Stay tuned for my analysis of this pick.

5:41 The New York Jets take Quinnen Williams with the third pick. Most people consider him better than Bosa.

6:02 The Oakland Raiders take Clemson DE Clelin Ferrell with the fourth pick. This is the big secret Jon Gruden didn’t want his scouts to leak? His intention to reach for a DE? Brilliant.

6:04 The Tampa Bay Buccaneers take Devin White with the fifth pick. He replaces Kwon Alexander, whom the 49ers signed last month.

6:05 The Giants take Duke QB Daniel Jones with the seventh pick. Panic pick for Gettleman, who usually always drafts the best player available regardless of position. Jones was not the best player available.

6:14 The Jaguars take Josh Allen with the seventh pick. Great selection. I’m sure the Jaguars didn’t think Allen would be available.

6:16 The Lions take T.J. Hockenson with the eighth pick, as I projected above. I got one right!

6:45 The Bills take Ed Oliver with the ninth pick. What a draft. Some serious defensive linemen are still available.

6:46 The Steelers trade up to the 10th pick and take inside linebacker Devin Bush. He replaced Ryan Shazier.

6:47 The Cincinnati Bengals take Jonah Williams. Good pick, but I expected they would take a quarterback to pair with their new head coach.

6:48 The Green Bay Packers take DE Rashan Gary. He probably was their fallback option after Bush.

6:58 The Miami Dolphins take Clemson DT Christian Wilkins. Interesting, I thought they would take edge-rusher Brian Burns.

6:59  The Atlanta Falcons take Boston College guard Chris Lindstrong. I figured they would take Washington State offensive tackle Andre Dillard or Florida OT Jawaan Taylor.

7:00 The Washington Redskins take Ohio State quarterback Dwayne Haskins. No surprise — Redskins owner Dan Snyder’s son attended prep school with Haskins.

7:06 The Panthers take Florida State defensive end Brian Burns with the 16th pick. Love it. Burns could be the best pass rusher in this draft.

The Giants take Clemson DT Dexter Lawrence with the 17th pick. This is a classic Gettleman pick. He loves interior linemen.

The Vikings take North Carolina State center Garrett Bradbury with the 18th pick. They had one of the worst offensive lines in the league last season, which is why they couldn’t run the ball.

The Titans take Mississippi State defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons with the 19th pick. Simmons tore his ACL before the draft. I guess the Titans feel they have no immediate needs. Hmmm.

The Broncos take tight end Noah Fant with the 20th pick. Meaning two tight ends got picked before a wide receiver. Interesting.

The Packers take Maryland safety Darnell Savage with the 21st pick. Savage is my second-favorite safety in the draft after Juan Thornhill.

The Eagles take offensive tackle Andre Dillard with the 22nd pick. Great value. I expected Dillard would be a top-15 pick.

The Texans take Alabama St. offensive tackle Tytus Howard with the 23rd pick. See, I told you he’s a sleeper.

The Raiders take Alabama running back Josh Jacobs. No surprise here. Jacobs is similar to Charlie Garner and Napoleon Kaufman, two running backs Gruden used to coach.

The Ravens take wide receiver Marquise Brown with the 25th pick. I wonder if Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson can get him the ball?

The Redskins take defensive end Montez Sweat with 26th pick. Sweat has top-1o talent, but he fell because of a heart issue.

The Raiders take strong safety Johnathan Abram with the 27th pick. He will play next to free safety Lamarcus Joyner.

The Chargers take Notre Dame DT Jerry Tiller with the 28th pick.

The Seahawks take defensive end L.J. Collier after trading down to the 29th pick. They should have stayed put and taken Montez Sweat. Oops.

The Giants take Georgia cornerback DeAndre Baker with the 30th pick. Curious to see how many penalties he commits next season. I’m guessing lots.

The Falcons trade up and take Washington offensive tackle Kaleb McGary with the 31st pick. Seems like a desperate reach because Howard isn’t available. McGary isn’t ready to start right away.

The Patriots take N’Keal Harry with the 32nd pick. I told you guys he’s a good player. I bet the 49ers are shocked and disappointed they can’t take him in Round 2.

  1. According to NFL Network, Murray is supposedly saying that he will be “schocked” if he does not go no. 1.

    1. Kolber may be wearing 4″ heels for all we know because there were no lower body shots

        1. I would trade out with Oakland or the Giants and pick up additional picks and still get an excellent pass rusher; Rosen goes to Miami??

            1. I agree.
              .
I was hoping that Lindstrom would fall since he was ranked 32, but others saw what you saw, and him going at 14 totally agrees with your assessment.
              .
I also wanted Chris Lindstrom, but at 36.

    1. Woohooooooooo. I missed last year’s draft. I’m never scheduling another vacation during the draft.

  2. I’m supposedly going to the draft next year in Vegas; my closest law school friend lives in Vegas, and my other friend iw working on getting us VIP passes.

  3. Please don’t pick Thomas…please don’t pick Thomas…..oh wait that was 2 years ago….

  4. Once Rapoport talked about teams telling the Cardinals to call them about Rosen, I knew it would be Murray. Cardinals are now secure in the thought they can get a bidding war on Rosen.

  5. I sure hope someone really wants Bosa or Haskins and gives the Niners a great offer!

  6. Bosa will be a niner
Don’t screw me with a Williams selection Lynch!
    Don’t you do it!

  7. The reason that the Cardinals have been rebuilding since 1947 is the ownership. Bad choice!

  8. I think they take Bosa…….. and he seems to be 100% about football, so I am cool w it.

  9. As for the Cardinals…Rosen didn’t do well because you don’t have an offensive line, your running back has durability issues, and you have an old receiver and pennies.

Way to think it’s just the quarterback that will change everything. Kingsbury was under .500 for a reason…

  10. No brainer!! Our weakness is now our strength (Ford & Bosa)!!!!!!!!!!
    Time to celebrate…..Time to party!!!!
We got the best player in the draft!!!!

    1. Opportunity costs (not trading down to get more picks, without suffering too much consequence) probably makes the reaction right.

But with Bosa, there’s a two-fer entertainment value: Watching him chase Wilson; and watching him step in it socially. Here’s hoping Niners’ fans welcome him, and mellow him the eff out!

P.S. Thanks for turning me on to the Athletic!

  11. And the pick is Bosa. This draft is playing out as predicted.
    Injuries are the issue.

  12. The Bosa Nostra opens up in San Francisco. Don Razoreater welcomes the family.

    1. Razor –
Bosa fell into our lap….We got lucky….People who are competent & have played competitive football know how lucky we got to get Bosa.

      1. Thanks. As soon as he deleted those tweets, I knew for sure that he was the pick.

    2. Credit where it’s due Razor, you were certain that’s were the Niners were going and you nailed it. I don’t agree he was the best pick, but all that’s to be done now is to hope he pans out as good as we both hope he will be. The Bozo nickname will be retired… for now…

    3. How yah feeling Razor, now that the 49ers have officially drafted the top prospect in the 2019 draft, on either side of the ball?

WOWZA, it came to fruition. They hit the Bosa sweepstakes even without having to end up with the league’s worst record. Maybe the 49ers string of tough luck has turned? Well, that’s a brilliant start, that’s for sure!

We all know you came out swinging for the fences 2 years ago Razor, but you went down swinging. Way to follow it up 2 years later with a bases clearing grand slam!

Grant’s top rated pass rusher finally came off the board!

      1. We’ve got a 3 prong attack, and that’s what I feel is the best approach to creating mayhem in the pocket as quickly as possible….

        1. I thought it would be Bosa or Allen. You got this one though your overhyping of Thomas backfired in a big way!

  13. Gratz, Razor, you were proved right.
    .
I hope Bosa gets 16 sacks.
    .
Dee Ford and Nick Bosa just made the defense a lot stronger.

    1. I think this is where it gets interesting………. even the Raiders may move up to 3, supposedly. Regardless, Oliver/Williams/Allen for Oakland will help them.

    2. Razor…

you called it … Bosa !!

      ( sure hope you don’t hurt yourself by celebrating too much ) … ;-}

    1. I figure if the biggest question marks about the pick are going to be about his social media activity, you’re probably taking the player that makes the most sense.

  14. The pass rush has been the team’s biggest weakness since Cowboy retired and Aldon Smith went bust. With the additions of Ford, Alexander, and now Bosa, it should no longer be a weakness.

  15. I sure hope this is the last time we address the D line with the first pick. Thomas or Armstead probably gone.

    1. Both of them, hopefully. Unfortunately, the Niners will only get for them what they’re worth.

  16. Was hoping for trading back a bit, but the AZ selection pretty much eliminated that option.

    Onward!

  17. Clelin Ferrell. I had mocked him many times, but after a trade back.
    .
    This is a Mayock pick.

    1. Ha! Because they all would have quit on the spot and that would have looked bad before the draft?

  18. Wow Raiders took my original draft crush after Bosa and before Allen. Lol
He’s going to be a baller for Oakland

  19. John Lynch

Maybe Lynch can get a job with Tampa Bay….what the hell was he thinking…?

  20. This past week, I talked to a friend that played 4 years of D-1 college football and had a NFL camp tryout. He got injured and moved on with his life. When I asked him about Bosa he said “I knew a few guys like this. He is the definition of a Thoroughbred. He was born and bred to do this. He has know since his Sophomore year in high school that this was what he wanted and this is what he would do. He will show up every week, he will want to be there, and he will enjoy being there. It is in his DNA. Think Mannings, Mathews , and Longs.” Just a little info.

  21. Nick Bosa: Great technique, but lacks speed/explosiveness He’s a bit slow. Think of the premiere pass rushers in the NFL—they all have one thing in common; they are explosive. Bosa’s production in college was nothing special. Bulk of his 2018 numbers came against Rutgers and Oregon State. Ho-hum. He’ll end up maxing out at 6-8 sacks/year. Ideally, when you pick an edge at #2 you want (and the 49ers need) a perennial double digit sack monster. This guy will likely end up a good, but not great player. Hope he can stay healthy.

  22. An apologetic Grant Cohn to 49ers fans is insulting. I guess the emperor’s clothes have come off.

    1. I still can think that a trade back was the best strategy, but acknowledge that there were no viable trade partners. I will welcome Bosa with open arms. He is a Niner, and I will root hard for him to get sacks.
      .
If Paraag was on the phones, I am glad he did not manage to formulate a bad deal. Niners could still trade back at 36, but if AJ Brown or N’Keal Harry is available, I hope they select one of them.
      .
Grant is still entitled to his opinion. Please do not gloat, and get snarky.

      1. There was no “trade” bullcrap. Didn’t you see how fast Lynch ran to the podium? He had over 4 minutes left on the clock Seb-a-niah!

        1. It takes 2 to tango, and this QB class is weaker than I assessed.
          .
Bet you were sweating silver bullets that the Cards might draft Bosa, since you thought he was the best player in the draft. I thought if the Cards drafted Bosa, a trade back would have been way more probable.

          1. I was not sweating bullets at all. I was never more confident, and Lynch coveted Bosa. You know what covet is don’t you? It means he Eucking yearned for him. His heart was set on him. It would have taken three 1st rounders to get him. Wango Tango!

  23. Ordering that Bosa jersey ASAP.
Can’t wait to see some heads explode.
Onelame os losing it right now.
    Trump/Bosa 2020 ????

  24. Who did the Raiders want in phone call to the Niners?? Why would the Niners refuse??

  25. Giants taking what they think is Eli Manning 2.0. given the Cutliffe connection. Given Eli Manning 1.0 hasn’t been that awesome (actually look at his career stats), the Giants really don’t have a clue.

  26. And just like that the 49ers front 7 is one of the scariest in the league.
Murray is going to get killed his rookie year.

  27. just Glad it wasn’t Oakland grabbing my boy J Allen.
Jax will be 2 years ago scary again.
Maybe we will sign him in 4-5 years as a FA

  28. LOL! That’s one!! Come on Juan T!! Let’s make it two! A blind man could have seen that coming. Once again, you don’t pass up the best player in the draft. Anything else is just “fake news”!! We need “great” players, not a bunch of “maybe they are good” players somewhere down the road. Thank God. And of course our resident soccer/track participant leader purposely picked Allen knowing they were going to pick Bosa just so he can continue his schtick. Bring on the negativity coach! What a joke.

  29. At this rate, AJ Brown might fall to the Niners in Round 2…unlikely given the teams picking before 36, but I can dream…

    Come on Brown!

  30. Now the hope is they trade the 2nd and pick up an extra 3rd. Lots of players that can help them are still available.

  31. Here’s hoping Niners will be crashing through the SeaHawks offense line! Buckner, Ford, and Bosa ought to be able to make some noise on third and six;
Now get some of that DB talent Grant’s proposing and make the pass rush matter.

It’s hard to evaluate DBs with zero QB pressure; but there were very few plays in which the Niners DBs looked coordinated and in control. If the opening day depth chart has Ward, Witherspoon and Tartt, it’s trouble for the Niners. .

Play the youngsters that showed promise, draft.
