Nice power play by the owners

With Roger Goodell conducting a celebratory press conference, as if the biggest hurdle has been resolved – the owners’ approval – the players have come under a lot of pressure to sign this deal.

If they don’t, they come off as preventing football from happening. It was a power play all the way, and one that probably will work.

Fourteen hundred players make $400,000 or less. They don’t have the economic cushion to stand firm and not be bullied. Considering, as the owners claim, there is $200-250 million to be lost every pre-season, the less wealthy will feel pressured.

That said, don’t be surprised to see the players reject the proposal tonight.
