Niners courtship of Warner doesn’t compare to Giants-Ramirez talk

There was an obvious parallel when reports on ESPN and “Instant 49ers” first surfaced Friday evening of the 49ers’ interest in Kurt Warner.

The 49ers were to Warner what the S.F. Giants are to Manny Ramirez . . . right?

However, there is one major difference: The 49ers are serious about acquiring Warner. They appear willing to pay Warner significantly more than the two-year, $20 million contract the Cardinals are offering. The feeling is that the Cardinals are not going to extend much beyond what they’ve already offered, and the 49ers really have a chance to pull this off.

With Ramirez, the L.A. Dodgers are seemingly bidding against themselves. It’s difficult to imagine the Giants being a real factor in the negotiations.

There is not much information trickling out of the Warner’s camp or the 49ers this morning. The last I heard, as of about 8:30 a.m., is that Warner is still coming to Santa Clara.

Redskins free-agent defensive end Demetric Evans had flight delays this morning from the East and is now expected to arrive Tuesday morning to visit with the 49ers. Fullback Moran Norris, who agreed to terms with the 49ers on a contract Friday, is scheduled to arrive this afternoon to sign his contract.
