Vernon Davis and Joshua Morgan in-game quotes

SAN FRANCISCO —

The 49ers just e-mailed me these quotes from Vernon Davis and Joshua Morgan, so I’m passing them along.

VERNON DAVIS

On his evaluation of the offense in the first half:

“I think the offense came out here and did a great job. Despite not getting in the end zone, I think we still did a tremendous job with learning a new offense and putting everything together within three weeks. I think we have a promising future ahead of us. Once it’s the opening of the season, I think we’ll be where we need to be.”

On the difference between last week’s game and today’s game:

“We really paid attention to details and everybody took it upon themselves to handle their responsibilities. That’s what happened.”

On how the offensive line played:

“I think they did a great job. They came off the rock moving their opponent and taking care of business.”

On how it felt for him to get his hands on the ball:

“It felt good to get my first catch of the year, in preseason. Now I look forward to more.”

JOSHUA MORGAN

On the difference between last week and this week:

“[QB] Alex Smith is making a lot of good decisions out there and we’re picking up. We’re good as an offense, we’re real good. We just need to get six instead of three.”

On whether the passing game gets the run game going:

“It all depends on how the game works, sometimes the running game gets the passing game going and you have to bring the safeties down close. It’s always on how the defense plays, but pretty much the running game did their thing tonight and the line did a great job while we were in there. We’ve seen some big runs by [RB] Frank Gore, [RB] Anthony Dixon and our rookie [RB] Kendall Hunter, so I think that pretty much opened up the passing game.”
