  1. Conspiracy theories? How about Grant’s use of luxury suites? Maybe the 9ers are ‘making it easy for him’ for a reason… I wonder if the 9ers have Grant on video while his in these suites… Hmm…..

    1. You bet your bottom scales they’ve got that room under surveillance. The offensive magician is using Grant as his slight of hand….

    2. Grant will be conduit for fan interaction for the FO. John Le Carre approves of it …
Now Grant will feel obligated to double or treble is rate of generation of conspiracy theories to Oliver Stone proportions…

  2. Sherman Conspiracy: Very plausible.
    Pettis: Typical rookie inconsistencies.
James: Very happy for this kid.
    Taylor: A stomach ache? Lol!
McFadden: I thought he played well against the Cowboys.
Morris: 29 which is 36 in running back years.
Celek: Sounds like he’s related to incognito.
Hikutini: Glad to hear he’s staying healthy. The more he plays, the skies the limit.
Grant: You let slip it was a staff member.

        1. Wonder what he would have been like if he not had the knee injuries? I kinda feel like we might have missed seeing a top 5 rb of all time.

  3. Thanks Grant, you just made my day.
    .
The talk about Kaep was GOLDEN.
    .
BTW, it was Nessa all the way. She pushed Kaep to start reading books, and like Delilah, she emasculated him. Got him side tracked to become a social justice warrior, but also destroyed his career by doing it. You are right. When he started out, he was solely focused on football. However, when he was rehabbing, he had lots of time to read, and she steered him towards BLM, opposing racial inequalities and social injustices.
    .
I admire Kaep for his passion, but wish he had not angered so many. He should have used a different tactic, so he could raise awareness without the flag dispute. He could have done so much more if he had continued as a starting QB. Now, he is being ostracized and blackballed, and forced to sit at home. Kaep has made a difference, exposed injustices and created discussion, but I want to see him play.
    .
Even with all the focus on police brutality, and the thin blue line that prevents police from being held accountable, I read 257 people have been killed by police since he started kneeling. At least, many police have lost their jobs for egregious abuses and one has even been convicted of manslaughter, but the trend continues. I think Trump encourages the violence, and separating families and sticking children in cages is more proof of his evil agenda.
    .
Still think Kaep is better than half the starters, and every backup, but he will be blackballed until Trump is removed from office. Glad you got smart and dumped the Trump talk. That is a good way to lose half the room.
    .
Conspiracy theory? That take on Sherman is just football 101. Like you said before when JG had an interception to end practice, they should have continued until JG threw a TD pass, so the practice could end on a high note.
    .
The biggest conspiracy is the collusion to blackball players who are brave enough to protest silently and non violently, asserting their First Amendment rights. Glad the bluster, bloviating and threats have not stopped the protests. Hope Kaep wins his lawsuit, and that leads to voiding the CBA, so players can get a better deal.

    1. -Still think Kaep is better than half the starters, and every backup, but he will be blackballed until Trump is removed from office

So in 2.5 years there will be a job waiting for him?

      1. No, Mueller is building a strong case, and Trump will crumble under the pressure.
        .
Cheating to win an election, should invalidate the results.
        .
Allowing a foreign adversary to help sway an election is treason.
        .
Hillary should just promise to pardon him, so he will have an escape. Getting him out of the Oval Office is worth a pardon, so he cannot do any more damage to the presidency.

        1. Sebber, I hate to break this to you but if Mule-ler had a strong case, he sure as hell would not be negotiating with President Trump’s legal team….

    2. C’mon Sebbie… You’re much too much of a stand-up guy to blame a woman for Kaep’s behavior–yup.

Poor Colin…a woman blinded him. It’s the woman’s fault. Some revolutionary you are. Pathetic. Sebbie talks the talk but withers in the light. Consistent with your two faced assertion last year…

If Hoyer can play like that, I will not mind if Kaep is blackballed.

      1. A revolutionary like Sebbie would remember well Mao Zedong’s quote ““Women hold up half the sky.”

      2. Cassie, women are not put on a pedestal, to be worshiped and above reproach. Women have noble inspiring tales of heroism like Ruth, or Joan of Arc. There also some Helens and Delilahs.
        .
Women want equality, so I will treat them equally. When they do good, I praise them, but when they slide backwards towards bad behavior, Like Nielsen, I call it out.
        .
Nessa did influence Kaep. Some say positively, and he has helped start a movement, while winning awards. I am all for his growth, and some day, hope he studies the Civil Rights movement, registers. and votes. I also liked how he played, and think he is the harbinger for a new wave of modern QBs, who can throw while on the run. Walsh chose Steve Young, and I am sure he saw Steve’s mobility as weapon to be used.
        .
Purely as a football fan, I want Kaep to play. It is my firm belief that Nessa gave Kaep some bad advice. I do not think either of them could have foretold the present future. Kaep still could have started a movement towards social justice, without angering others. Kaep can still effect change in a positive manner. I am well aware of some of the things Nessa has talked about, since she is a radio talk host.
        .
Nice try, but hiding behind your skirts is not admirable. Be equal by accepting criticism, when earned. Strive for equality with higher ideals.
        .
        BTW, you have bad breath.

    3. You say “Glad you got smart and dumped the Trump talk. That is a good way to lose half the room.” Yet, you never acknowledged that Kaepernick bringing social justice to the NFL field (and the anthem in particular) had the potential to lose half the room. I guess if you agree with someone’s politics, you don’t see them as divisive?

I kept beating the “bad for business” drum on this blog the year Kaepernick started his protests. All anyone here wanted to discuss was whether he was within his first amendment rights to do so. He was within his first amendment rights to call all football fans morons if he had chosen to do that; the legality of his actions was never an issue. His narcissism and stupidity continue to cost his business money, long after the blackballing began–and for that, he deserves to be unemployed. Not that I think he cares about football anyway.

Btw, I’m not a Trump supporter, lest anyone misconstrue my point.

      1. Alan, I concede the point that he did anger a segment of the population. We also had veterans on this site who agreed with Kaep, and are not bothered by his silent, respectful non violent symbolic protest.
        .
It is also reprehensible for the supposed leader of this land to be calling black players SObs, and calling for their firing. He is the one injecting politics into the social justice arena, and his rhetoric is divisive and hateful, pandering to his base.
        .
Bad for business? The league just paid out to owners 255 mil each, which is a new record. Legalized gambling forecasts to be huge money makers. I submit to you, the specter of CTE, will possibly be more responsible for the death of a sport, because concerned parents will not let their kid play, so the pool of players dries up.
        .
I will forcefully disagree about your 2 last assertions. His organized blackballing is proof that he is being unjustly prevented from playing. Like I said before, he is better than half the starters and all the backups, except for Foles, because he led his team to the SB, breaking playoff records, in 10 games. Kaep deserves to play.
        .
I will also emphatically assert that Kaep cares deeply about football. He even sued the league so they will let him play. One of his childhood dreams was to win the SB as the QB of the San Francisco 49ers. He wants to play, but is so principled he will not state that he will not protest, just to be allowed to play. Kaep has intentionally lost sponsors over his protests, because he knew they would drop him over the kneeling. Kaep just wants police to stop shooting unarmed civilians, and he wants police to be held accountable, just like ordinary citizens. No one is above the law.

It’s evident that those who made decisions regarding facility design didn’t place much value on a viable shade solution–that is, building it into the design, not being forced to mitigate something afterward (then say you can’t).

  5. I wonder if the Jets/ Washington brawl during joint practices will affect how the Niners practice with the Texans.
    .
I bet the coaches will talk until they are blue in the face, imploring the Niner players to not let trash talking make them lose their cool. Hope both sides can see how counter productive it is. I hope both sides can be collegial and professional, so all can benefit.
    .
KS should just stress how important these joint practices are for both teams. He should promise to send home any player who instigates a fight, even if it is a starter.

  6. https://www.ninersnation.com/2018/8/13/17685664/kyle-shanahan-transcript-49ers-injury-report-2018

Is there anything that you can point to, is there any sort of theme with these injuries and could any of them have maybe been prevented or is it all just kind of a freak football–?

“Oh yeah you can go through each one. [TE George] Kittle falling on his arm awkwardly and separating his shoulder, that could be prevented by not having him run the route. Guys getting concussions in games could be prevented from them not tackling people I guess.”

What about soft tissue injuries in particular?

“Soft tissue injuries, yeah they can be prevented by having them not doing anything and sit there and just not get hurt and then it will happen in Week 1, to me. It’s just part of it.”

    :-)

    1. Great answer from Shanny and I’m glad somebody within the game finally answered these knuckleheads…cough*Florio* cough…who continually whine about injuries in nothing games. It’s not when the player is playing that is the problem; it’s the game itself. It doesn’t matter when or where you play, at some point you will get injured. That is the game, and shortening the preseason, having fewer practices, wiping out preseason altogether etc. is not going to change it. If anything it’s gone too far the other way where we may be seeing more of these types of injuries because the players aren’t getting into game shape due to the reduction in practice time and more specifically, in pads.

      1. It was certainly a great sound bite. And he is right about the “freak” injuries – only way to avoid those is to not participate. But if he isn’t worried about all the wear and tear injuries this early in the season he’s fooling himself. While they certainly aren’t all avoidable, and do happen when you do physically exerting activity, the significant number of them does suggest there may be something they could improve in their training regiment.

        1. Scooter,

Possibly, but hamstring injuries happen in abundance every single season. Not much you can do about it other than staying hydrated and stretching extensively which I would hope they do. They certainly aren’t over exerting themselves in practices that are about an hour and half long and don’t include pads a lot of the time.

Totally not what we are talking about but I think this is why HC’s are throwing their hands up and saying what the hell is going on? There was a time not long ago when two a days were the norm, both sessions involving pads and a tremendous amount of conditioning. Now there seems to be a new injury every day that doesn’t involve contact. I’m not sure if there is any difference in the number of injuries from back then to now, but the quality of football once the regular season started sure was better.

          1. I would suggest the issue may not be so much driven by practice field habits, but training room habits. Perhaps too much of a focus on building muscle and power, not enough on muscle and ligament flexion.

            1. How many practice fields are on artificial surfaces? I wonder if there have been any studies regarding this?

I do know that players continue to exert more force (bigger, stronger, faster) on limbs and tissues that remain basically the same. Something has got to give… The pursuit of the finest athletic capacity has something to do with the injuries (though Garnett could be a counter argument).

    2. I was on a rather serious flag football team long, long ago–played outside LB and backup TE. During one league game at night, on two successive plays, I was thumped pretty good. On the first play I caught a forearm in the face–breaking my nose. On the next play I was driven to the ground by two OL–cracking two ribs. Both plays were runs to my side.

      I like Shanahan’s take!

          1. That was very cool. He’s mentioned a number of times how much Blake influenced his art so I’m sure this was a satisfying event for him. Man I wish I had half of Bruce’s charisma.

        1. Yeah….it was mid 70s flag football–a lot of running and some passing (we had lousy QBs). Players in their early to late 20s .

We lost in the championship game. We were a couple scores behind with only 3 or 4 minutes to go. We received a kickoff and ran the ball back for a TD…only to have it called back because I clipped a guy (and I knew it).

          Those were the days.

  7. Two interesting point of view…..

    HJ

Jackson said. “[W]hy have we not had any soft tissue injuries? . . . For the last two years, we have not had any soft tissue injuries. I think I said that day it was because our medical staff and myself, we put a plan together to make sure that the guys — we have very good data that says that if a guy is very close, and people do not get that two days from then they are going to pull and there is a good chance that they will pull.

“We have done this now for two years, and we have had really good success.

    KS

Soft tissue injuries, yeah they can be prevented by having them not doing anything and sit there and just not get hurt and then it will happen in Week 1, to me. It’s just part of it.”

  8. Don’t get how the FAA regs would prohibit a shade awning over a stadium near the airport. Guido or someone this weekend said that it isn’t possible to build an awning or shade structure. But that’s not the point. If it’s feasible in any way, do it. The energy in the stadium and with the fans should be the only concern. If it takes 1-2 years to renovate and the team has to play in Stanford or somewhere, so be it….

    1. Levi’s is 2.5 miles from the end of runways 12L/30R and 12R/30L. I could see an issue if the installation of some form of retractable or permanent screen would require massive cranes towering over Levi’s. However, a good, innovative engineering/construction outfit could figure out a very viable alternative. It’s kinda lazy to point fingers at the FAA.

Anyway, 9er leadership doesn’t care. And no one wants to coddle ‘baby’ fans… And if the unthinkable ever happens and a fully loaded 737-800 suffers catastrophic engine failure on take off and plows into Levi’s, so be it.

Wonder what went into the location decision for Levis, given proximity to the airport’s approach and departure airspace.

  9. Ward: I read today that the Dolphins are ISO a corner. I can see KS playing him up in the next game and maybe Lynch just eats Ward’s salary and trades him to Miami for a conditional 3rd/4th. I simply cannot see how they keep him on the roster at any of the secondary positions. Not that Miami would give up anything to get him when he may be a waiver pickup later, but

  10. I think your read on Reed is on the money. Keapernick comes from a very different and complex background and would pose a far more difficult challenge. Basically he is a nice guy who has always had to deal with identity issues which became magnified due to his meteoric rise and celebrity status. the QB controversy and the criticism that came from different directions were difficult to handle for someone like him. The real change came when he became involved with his girl friend who’s political agenda sort of gave him something to identify with. She along with her marxist agenda sort of acted in the same way that cults draw in insecure individuals looking for a cause to identify with.

I could write a book on Kaepernick, but for one I am too lazy and two this is not the proper forum. I will tell you that he is sincere and not a phony. He is just complex and difficult to understand. It’s more like circumstance has put him in the direction he is presently on. Ultimately it is not the direction he would have chosen for himself. He just wanted to play football.

      1. Where are your priorities Sebbie?”

If Hoyer can play like that, I will not mind if Kaep is blackballed.

        1. I said IF. Hoyer did NOT. I want every Niner QB to succeed. I even rooted for Gabbert, when he started.

      1. Not nearly as interesting, but wondering about left and right handed players at Center or Long Snapper?
