49ers announce Carr’s arrival, Hill’s departure

The 49ers have officially announced the signing of free-agent quarterback David Carr, as well as the team’s agreement to trade quarterback Shaun Hill to the Detroit Lions.

Carr hand delivered his signed contract this morning to the 49ers’ Santa Clara offices after receiving it via Fed Ex in Mexico last week while on vacation. The 49ers began their offseason program today.

The Hill trade is pending a physical in Detroit. The 49ers will receive “an undisclosed” pick in the 2011, according to the 49ers. That pick will be a seventh-round pick.

“We are very happy to add David to our roster,” 49ers general manager Scot McCloughan said in a statement. “We added a player at a position of need and of huge importance to us. David provides depth at the quarterback position and helps make us stronger. He’s a great young man.”

Carr is scheduled to meet with the media at noon.

The Panthers signed former 49ers defensive back Marcus Hudson. The 49ers did not tender Hudson as a restricted free agent.
