49ers-Rams live blog: Second quarter

SAN FRANCISCO — This is the live blog for the second quarter of the 49ers Week 10 home game against the St. Louis Rams. I’ll update this frequently with information and analysis.

2:10 Alex Smith just snuck up the middle for seven inches on fourth and six inches. First and 10 at the St. Louis 47.

2:10 On third and 7 from the 14, Smith hits Michael Crabtree for a TD pass. 14-7 Rams with 8:13 left in the second quarter. Crabtree lined up in the slot against Finnegan. Finnegan blitzed and Smith immediately threw it to Crabtree, who was wide open. Good decision by Smith.

2:23 The Rams go three-and-out. Goldson breaks up Bradford’s pass on third and three. The momentum has officially shifted to the 49ers.

2:27 Three trainers are checking out Alex Smith on the sideline. Colin Kaepernick is the QB and he scrambles for 10 yards on first down.

2:29 The 49ers concussion expert is checking out Alex Smith.

2:31 On third and 10, Kyle Williams was wide open streaking down the middle of the field. Kaepernick didn’t see him, he held onto the ball and Goodwin was flagged for holding. Third and 20 at the SF 47.

2:32 Kaepernick scrambles for four yards on third and 20 and Lee punts a touchbacks.

2:33 Alex Smith walks off the field to the locker room through the former Giants dugout with his head down. He’s not holding his helmet. He has three people with him.

2:39 Rams punter Johnny Hecker punts the ball off the side of the punt for 13 net yards. First and 10 for the 49ers at the Rams 40 yard line.

2:41 Remember, Scott Tolzien is inactive. If Kaepernick gets hurt, the 49ers do not have a quarterback to take his place.

2:47 The Rams go three-and-out for a third straight time.

2:48 Chris Culliver blitzes on the punt, and Hekker throws a pass to Culliver’s wide open man, Rodney McLeod. Gain of 21 and a first down.

2:50 Aldon Smith ends the first half by looping around Justin Smith to the inside and sacking Bradford.
