SANTA CLARA — Check out my postgame Periscope report about the 49ers’ 30-27 win over the Detroit Lions.

  1. Our defense gave up too many points, and Saleh’s zone scheme is porous. Mahomes just might tear us a new one.

    1. Might?…lol..this will be a blood bath..Mahomes looks like Tom Brady.. Garoppolo is looking like Alex Smith 2.0..were getting our ass handed to us,I do not trust Saleh to come up with a game plan at all

  2. The glee in your face when you report national enquirer news. Calling him out? The question was asked and he answered it.

  3. Linebackers will be back next week. Could help a bit.
    KC secondary is aweful too.
Don’t think this team won’t be putting up some points too. Chances are Goodwin is back and I hate to say this….. josh Gordon is on the field too. Uhg the thought of wondering if he will be suspended week after week.
He will be a 49er. By tomorrow or tonight. ????

  4. No question Gordon needs to be brought in. This team desperately lacks star talent around the quarterback.

    1. Um…. I believe there are questions about bringing Gordon in. Star talent at any price? High risk talent–any and all?

      1. I would sign him to a “prove it” contract for one year.

No big monies up front. Pay would be wrapped up on production.
Gordon needs to realize that he is not an NFL commodity any longer. His career is hanging on a thread.

  5. Yah, I’m not sure exactly what Sherman was thinking.

A Win is a Win. Sometimes it just takes 1 win to break the ice! This team needs to loosen up because they are playing tight!

They won because they didn’t turn the ball over, and they committed fewer penalties than the Lions.

Thankfully, Mike Person was able to play. The 49ers probably lose this game with Najee Toran starting at RG. Hopefully they get Goodwin back next week, along with their top 2 ILB’s, because they desperately need those 3 guys.

  6. Niners need Josh Gordon like they need a hole in their head.
    .
JL will throw all his winning with class mantra out the window if he signs Gordon.
    .
Niners have good receivers, and Goodwin will return from injury. The weaknesses on the Niners include the pass rush, Witherspoon and O line play.

      1. Gordon has had every chance in the book, but may disappear like a puff of smoke. He has bitterly disappointed the Browns. They invested a lot of time and energy in him, and now he is gone. Locker room dynamics are fragile, and a headache like Gordon is not worth the risk.

  7. I think we won today because we didn’t turn the ball over and we committed fewer penalties than the Lions.

Sherman has lost his mind, lol.

Niners desperately need Goodwin back on the field, along with their top 2 ILB’s.

Good thing Mike Person started today because the 49ers probably lose with Najee Toran starting at RG.

This team needs to loosen up on offense. The whole offense is playing tight.

    1. I don’t see Mahomes continuing his blistering TD passing rate.

He is due for a let down and hopefully we catch an overconfident team.
That said, we may still lose but it won’t be a blowout.

This game has been marked as a loss before the season started by most here, so a loss here falls within the win/loss category.

Again, as in the game against Minn, I want to see a competitive game with improved play.

        1. Never been a betting man, but I’ll give you 4 nods if Chiefs win by more than 20.

If there is one weakness on the Chiefs it’s their defense. It shouldn’t have to take any QB 6 TD’s to win a game.

  8. Looks like CfC was right about Mahomes. He’s put himself in the MVP race through two games. Next week could be ugly for the 49ers.

    1. Ten years when we look back ,this will be Lynch’s downfall…his first pick ever has been his worst..Soloman Thomas is not even an average starter let alone #3 overall..He’s producing like a fourth round pick…not being a smart ass has there ever been a player in the history of the NFL drafted that high that has turned it around after looking like such a bust?

  9. Site is acting jenky again. Not letting me edit and replies are being posted as their own response.

  10. Anyone here tonight recall some of the negative assertions made by a few of us about Mahomes running up to the 2017 draft?

    1. I included him is a couple of my mocks. He is a gunslinger from Texas Tech, who benefited from sitting and learning from AS. Did not know if he could pick up the pro styled offense, and at 4.8, he was a bit too slow for being a mobile QB.

      1. I don’t know what he learned from Alice Smith..He is the the ultimate anti Alice..He makes big throws down the field with no fear…Alice’s whole career has been controlled by fear

        1. Mahomes did not get the AS treatment, and get thrown to the wolves. He got the Aaron Rodgers treatment for one year. He could sit back, study hard, work out to get stronger and learn how an NFL QB operates.
          .
I said Mahomes could learn from AS, not that he should emulate AS.

    2. I touted Mahomes for us before the college season was over.
I vote for CFC as the head of our Scouting Dept. If he needs an assistant I’d throw my name in the hat ?

  11. So this really is a loss masquerading as a win? Williams got burned, tackling was once again poor, big shout out to Persons, JG is showing how inexperienced he really is, where is Taylor at? Both sides of the ball need improving. Good to get that first win!

  12. Totally agree with Grant. They are mourning a win. Niners did a lot right, and they are improving. Still, they do need to improve even more. While burning time outs to prevent a penalty on defense was wise, they should become so efficient, that they do not need to waste any time outs.
    .
I was pleasantly surprised when KS made an adjustment, and benched Witherspoon. They beat him like a drum.
    .
Sure am glad they followed Grant’s advice, and became more balanced. Those runs of Breida were set up because they dedicated more plays to the run game. That made them less predictable. However, on their last offensive possessions, they tended to run into the teeth of the defense. The Niners should have dialed up some easy to complete passes like slants, curls, fly sweeps, bubble screens and swing passes. Instead of 2 yard runs on first and second downs, they may have gained enough yards to keep possession and drive the ball down the field, while keeping the clock moving.
    .
I am jumping for joy over this win. If the Niners manage to win one of the next 2 games, they could go 2-2, and have a chance at the playoffs. KS should be less critical of his QB, and savor this victory. If one can meet with triumph and disaster, and treat those 2 impostors for what they truly are, that should be best lesson learned.

  13. Wonder what would happen if Shanny had both Petis ..and.. Ritchie..
working the first half of practice (hard) on the Juggs machine …. and design plays
for both of them for the next game …

We’ve already seen what Petis is capable of … I ‘m curious as to what Ritchie
    can do as well….

Might be just..”that”.. wrinkle which throws the Chiefs for a loop

  14. At the end of the season when they figure out who is in the tournament and who isn’t I don’t ever recall them taking into account by how many points any of the wins were by.

The Patriots win lots of close games and nobody ever mentions that when they talk about the championship at the end of the season.

The win is all that counts.

  15. Wonder what would happen if Shanny both Petis ..and.. Ritchie..

  16. The comments during the game blog about why can’t they pressure that statue? Lol. That “statue “ regularly throws for 400 a game, 4500 a season. Statue, indeed.

  17. “King” Solomon Thomas now has 3 combined tackles on the season, and at least 1 of those was a shared or “assisted” tackle. No Sacks, and NO QB hits.

  18. I predicted a 30-27 victory about 6 months ago and you all laughed at me.
    .
I said Lynch needed to get one more MIKE and you all laughed at me.
    .
    Who’s laughing now?

  19. My take..just my humble opinion…
Breida obviously the better back but instead of feeding him after long run Shanny shuts him down..
    Jimmy G looks scared
    Witherspoon got picked on
Play calling was really bad I don’t know a thousanth what Shanny does but I literally saw four plays coming from here on my couch..
Sherman is solid good pick up
Receivers can’t get separation at all
Pass rush is non existent..biggest weakness on this team
Saleh is overmatched and out coached
McGlinchey is doing better than I thought he would
S Thomas is still a completely wasted pick

  20. Jimmy Garropolo does look tentative. Is that because the play makers are not getting open or because he has a slower trigger?

  21. So last week’s gun-slinging risk-taker is this week’s tentative thrower holding on to the ball too long and taking half-a-dozen sacks?!

  22. Niners sucked today! My goodness Witherspoon reverted to that scared player! Jimmy G just stands there! Not one roll out. Taylor a non-factor! Pettis disappears! Next week a track meet and we get motor boated! Only hope is Rueben Foster plays like a monster!

  23. Shanahans statement about getting rid of the ball quicker could also refer to throwing the ball away. Holding the ball too long could refer to Jimmy still waiting to long for someone to get open before deciding to throw it away. From what I saw he had the time to do that but just held the ball and braced for the sack. I don’t remember him ever getting hit during or right after releasing the ball. It looked like he was protecting himself. Last year he made a lot of throws right before he was hit.

While it is smart to not set oneself up for too many hits, this game he quit on plays far too early. As most of those who were watching were saying through out. Throw the ball away and don’t keep taking those sacks that put you in a farther hole.

Perhaps last week the Vikes player was right when he stated that Jimmy was playing scared. It certainly seemed to carry over into this game.

  24. It appears that the Vikes player was right when he said Jimmy looked scared at the end of last weeks game. I don’t remember him getting hit once during the process of passing. Even if players were not open he had plenty of time to throw the ball away on most of those sacks. It looked like he was protecting he spent the time he had available to get himself in a safe position to take those sacks. If no one is open he should just throw the ball away. He had time to do that on many of his sacks.
