Alex Smith sort of explains his concussion

SANTA CLARA – When it came time to talk about his concussion, Alex Smith didn’t want to get into specifics. He stood in the middle of the locker room and explained to reporters that he’s feeling great.

Here’s the full transcript.

ALEX SMITH: Feel great. Went through all the protocol that the league requires and the doctors require. Took all the tests. Everything looks great. Cleared to play.

Q: When did you start to feel the symptoms?

ALEX SMITH: To be honest, I guess I don’t want to get in to too much of what happened. Enough there that after the game I went in and talked to the doc. It’s a concussion, but I’ve been doing all the stuff, like I said, these last few days and everything looked good.

Q: Is this the first time you’ve ever felt this in your career?

ALEX SMITH: Played through hits and stuff a lot. Right now I think the term ‘concussion’ covers a lot of area. During the game I felt like I was good enough to play.

Q: Do you know on which play the concussion occurred?

ALEX SMITH: Yeah I do. Don’t want to get into specifics at this point.

Q: How long was the protocol and when were you cleared?

ALEX SMITH: So we went through all the protocol Sunday night, Monday, Tuesday. It’s kind of all just three days. There’s quite a few steps you’ve got to do in order to get cleared to go out there and practice.

Q: When did you feel better?

ALEX SMITH: I felt better the next day.
