Baalke will ‘visit’ with York on Saturday

Vice president of player personnel Trent Baalke appeared at practice today and said he will “visit” with 49ers president and CEO Jed York on Saturday.

CSN Bay Area and FOX Sports reported earlier this week that Baalke will become the team’s next general manager.

Baalke did not confirm or deny reports that he’d spent time in Florida this week visiting with Dolphins consultant Bill Parcells. The pair worked together a decade ago when Parcells was the Jets head coach and Baalke was a scout.

Stanford coach Jim Harbaugh – you might have heard the Niners have some interest in him? – is also in Florida this week in advance of the Orange Bowl on Monday.

The Sacramento Bee reported that former Broncos general manager Ted Sundquist met with York on Thursday. Sundquist was Denver’s GM from 2002-07. Among the highlights of his six-year tenure was the 2006 draft in which Denver selected future Pro Bowlers in wide receiver Brandon Marshall and linebacker Elvis Dumervil in the fourth round.

Sundquist was the third reported candidate to meet with York, a list that includes ex-Rams personnel executive Tony Softli and former Raiders personnel chief Michael Lombardi, who came out of his interview declaring on NFL Network that Baalke would get the job.
