Niners coaching update for the day
Tom Rathman has signed on the dotted line, officially beginning his third stint with the 49ers. The club announced the deal just moments ago. Rathman will be the team’s running backs coach.

Perhaps you’ve already noticed, but there is a new feature to the blog these days. There is now a forum. In the past, the comments section under my blog posts has been open season to discuss all topics. Now, there is an actual forum in which subjects involving the 49ers, the NFL, the draft and miscellaneous sports can be freely discussed. Feel free to get the ball rolling….
Coach Mike Singletary is scheduled to conduct his season-ending press conference today at 2 p.m. There might be a question or two about Singletary’s plan for the future of the 49ers’ offense. Check back here some time after 2:30 for a recap of the press conference.
I’m going to make this quick, as I haven’t been home since landing back in the Bay Area:
It was a light day in Santa Clara today. For the newspaper, I wrote about Ahmad Brooks. But now seems like a good time to solicit some questions from y’all. * * *
The 49ers’ game Sunday against the Seahawks will not be blacked out on local television, a team spokesman said just moments ago.
The 49ers have not enjoyed a winning season since Steve Mariucci was dumped after the 2002 season. The 49ers were 10-6, champions of the NFC West, and won a first-round playoff game.
Coach Mike Nolan just met with the scribes (and a few cameras) for his typical Wednesday morning media briefing.
There are no changes to the 49ers’ injury report. LB Manny Lawson, T Jonas Jennings and CB Shawntae Spencer are still out.
Running back Frank Gore will be a busy man on Sunday against the Patriots. Gore leads the NFL in yards from scrimmage with 412 yards 525 yards in four games. He’ll undoubtedly be the focus of Bill Belichick’s defense.
You think the Patriots are going to be prepared to face the 49ers on Sunday?
Looking back at Sunday’s 49ers game, there were seven plays (or sequences) that sealed their fate.
The final score was 31-17. It was not a pretty sight today here at the Superdome. Coach Mike Nolan didn’t pull any punches. He said everyone played poorly. He said every aspect of the team, including the coaching, deserves blame for this one.
