Gore: “We just have to get better, and we will.”

SANTA CLARA – Frank Gore made himself available to speak this afternoon in the 49ers locker room – he walked to the middle and waited for questions.

Here’s what we asked, and here’s how he answered.

Q: Was there any rust for you not having played Since November?

GORE: No, I watched the film. I made all my reads. I don’t think so.

Q: How difficult is the Cowboys’ front seven to run against?

GORE: They play good ball. They’ve got some big guys. We’ve just got to go out there and do it. They lost week. They’re going to come in here and play hard.

Q: Do you guys have to do more through the air to open it up for you?

GORE: It goes both ways.

Q: Did you find them stacking the line against you like they had in the past?

GORE: Yeah. It was tough, man. But we knew they were going to come in here and try to stop the run because we’d been successful some of these years against them on the ground. We’ve just got to get better, and we will.

Q: Do you have to expect that all season while the passing game is finding its feet?

GORE: No, like I said I think it goes both ways. Run the ball great, the passing game’s there, and if they’re throwing the ball good the running game’s there, so it goes both ways.

Q: How was Alex Smith as a lead blocker?

GORE: He did a good job. Alex is a tough guy and I know he’s going to give it his all when he’s on the football field.

Q: When you see him making that play and also diving into the end zone, is that something new from Alex?

GORE: No, he’s always been a tough football player. That’s one thing we don’t have to worry about (with) him.
