Lovie Smith on the 49ers offense: “They’re not going to change much based on who their quarterback is.”

SANTA CLARA – Chicago Bears head coach Lovie Smith spoke to Bay Area reporters on a conference call Thursday morning. Here’s what he said about preparing for the 49ers two quarterbacks, Alex Smith and Colin Kaepernick.

Q: Do you guys have to prepare for both Alex Smith and Colin Kaepernick?

LOVIE SMITH: We’re going to prepare for the quarterback position for the 49ers. Whether it’s Smith or Colin, it doesn’t really…there’s a difference, of course, between the two of them, but the 49ers are a running football team. We have to start with that. We have to go with our game plan. They’re not going to change much based on who their quarterback is.

Q: Do you have to prepare for a lot more running from Colin Kaepernick?

LOVIE SMITH: Colin has been playing some anyway, so we’ve been preparing for him anyway. Again, we don’t change what we do an awful lot based on a change at quarterback. Both quarterbacks have played some for them.
