Niners-Eagles pregame notes

After attending the UCLA-Cal game Saturday, I’ve arrived
at Candlestick.

Two days. Two games. And two brittle and decaying
stadiums — at least Memorial Stadium is due for a high-end facelift.

I’ll post some pregame notes here, which I’ll be updating
leading up until kickoff. I won’t have a live blog tonight due to newspaper
deadlines.

• The Cardinals beat the Saints with rookie Max Hall at quarterback. You saw that coming, right? Maybe it will take more than seven wins to win the NFC West.

• The Raiders, who visit Candlestick next week, beat the Chargers, 35-27. Maybe the schedule isn’t softening so much after all.

• TE Vernon Davis is on pace for 76 catches — two off the career-high of 78 he set last year. Safe to say, Davis is doing it a bit more quietly than he did last season.

• Niners’ inactives: Troy Smith (3rd QB), WR/KR Kyle Williams, CB Tramaine Brock, T Barry Sims, C Eric Heitmann, T Alex Boone, WR Jason Hill, TE Delanie Walker.

• Not a huge surprise that Williams won’t play. He was sporting a metal splint on his middle finger this week — not a great injury for a guy returning kicks. A mild surprise that Heitmann is inactive. Based on what Singletary said this week it sounded like he might be backing up David Baas tonight.

• Eagles’ inactives: QB Michael Vick, WR Riley Cooper, CB Asante Samuel, RB Joique Bell, DE Daniel Te’o-Nesheim, LB Keenan Clayton, T Austin Howard, TE Clay Harbor.

• Frank Gore needs 100 yards to move into third place on the Niners’ all-time rushing list. Gore trails Ken Willard (5,930 yards). Roger Craig (7,064) is in second and Joe Perry (7,344) is the franchise’s all-time leading rusher.

• Gore needs 162 yards to move into fifth place all-time in total yards from scrimmage. Gore (7,925 yards) trails Willard (8,086).

• Eagles RB LeSean McCoy will play with a broken rib. McCoy
— big surprise — has been experiencing pain due to the injury so it will be
interesting to see if he’s in top form. McCoy (272 yards, 5.5 yards per carry)
and Michael Vick have accounted for 76 of Philadelphia’s 95 carries. Mike
Bell (12 carries, 20 yards) backs up McCoy.

• Eagles WR DeSean Jackson has 12 catches for 238 yards
and a TD in two career games against the 49ers.

• Mike Singletary celebrated his 52nd birthday
Saturday. That is all.
